CSU and Wyoming in Separate Conferences

Guys - UW is irrelevant. I am among the biggest fanboys of UW sports (with frequent negative comments borne out of frustration) but if you take off your brown and gold glasses, the reality is plain as day. We are more like South Dakota, SDSU, NoDak, NoDak State, Montana, Montana State, and Idaho (except we can't beat them) than most of our current conference mates - no less P4 schools. We can continue to hemorrhage cash to try to keep up, or we can be what we are - a meh Group of Whatever school or a mid to top tier FCS school. Our AD, admin, BOT and state have no stomach for being bold and taking risks. We don't have the eyeballs (sure the networks need content, but it won't compel the money that is required to do anything but die a slow death), we don't have the fanbase, we don't have the money (soon to be even more diminished when the flying monkeys in the Legislature are done), and we don't have the recent successes (wins) on the court or field to justify ourselves as a Gonzaga-like addition (sorry boys, the Barstool Slapstick Bowl doesn't matter a hill of beans) to a decent conference. We struggle to raise $307,000 for NIL for heaven's sake. We aren't players. We haven't been since the 80's, which even most Wyoming fans hardly remember. So which do you prefer: Group of Whatever or FCS? Them's the options.

I make no commentary on CSU, BSU, SDSU and Fresno other than to say, they are making a play to be slightly better than "meh" group of whatever teams.
No one gives a rat's ass about FCS schools. I attend St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) games on a regular basis. Okay stadium, middle of campus. A quality program for FCS. Stands are half empty. I ask my daughter "how's the team this year?" Her reply is always "Don't know, no one cares, Dad." I've never seen, nor will I ever go see, an FCS game in Wisconsin. I just don't care that much and it reminds me a little of high school. Blows my mind for anyone to advocate for Wyoming stepping down. U.W. is absolutely relevant...especially in Wyoming. It's not all about Shadeur Sanders driving around his Rolls. Wyoming is one of few genuine programs left. That makes them more relevant than ever.

Power conference. In all reality there isn’t a team from the MW now the PAC that will ever compete with the real Power schools, SEC, BIG etc. All of these schools are betting on a better media deal, which is yet to be determined. The PAC didn’t negotiate the deal with the schools that fled.
“but the bottom line is so inconsequential you have to ask whether it's even worth the trouble.”

Burman and University decline to release statement on today’s news. If that doesn’t project confidence in our athletic program leaders not sure what does.

Would Cal and Stanford come back somehow?
They decided to fly their teams 3,000 miles for conference games over being conference mates with these schools. Not for nothing, but Boise State was just ranked last - dead last - in academics among FBS schools.

Plus, they would be sued into oblivion.

St Thomas is barely an FCS school. They play in a conference that doesn't require full 62 scholarships and were forced to move to FCS because of a squabble they had with D3.

The wannabe PAC - whatever is not going to invited to the big boys table when conference consolidation is all said and done. The best it can hope for is in the second tier of not quite bigtime college athletics. It seems the schools chosen all were selected due to their proximity to population centers. Candidly Wyoming was always going to left out if that was a core consideration. I hate it but the TV rights are the driving force in all sports now.

St. Thomas was kicked out of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference because they were beating the utter crap out of their opponents in football.

Sadly, I'm not surprised by this. I rather we forced OSU and WSU to join the MWC or else. But, knowing Burman had a hand in this really doesn't surprise me.

Exactly right about St. Thomas. And they represent a good school, have good athletes, are in a good sized market and Tommie fans are few and far between. I will keep hoping for the best for Wyoming and that the school stays in FBS.

What a joke. But I expected that, from the department that does less with less. A lot less. As in brains and forward thinking.

The biggest problem for the University, leaders would have been in the know and have something prepared
That is their track record...they do as little work as possible, and are ok with being just ok. No vision, no leadership, no passion. Why they even have jobs is beyond me - unless the good 'ol boy network is still alive, well, and thriving.

I'm not pro-Burman but since the conference didn't say much, I'm guessing the remaining schools are meeting. They're probably working on a unified message. I wouldn't expect much until they all meet.

Good point, and likely accurate. I am just so fucking pissed we didn't aspire to be better at all MWC sports, when we saw this shit coming years ago. Instead, we hired trash because we are ok being ok.
