CSU and Wyoming in Separate Conferences

No one gives a rat's ass about FCS schools. I attend St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) games on a regular basis. Okay stadium, middle of campus. A quality program for FCS. Stands are half empty. I ask my daughter "how's the team this year?" Her reply is always "Don't know, no one cares, Dad." I've never seen, nor will I ever go see, an FCS game in Wisconsin. I just don't care that much and it reminds me a little of high school. Blows my mind for anyone to advocate for Wyoming stepping down. U.W. is absolutely relevant...especially in Wyoming. It's not all about Shadeur Sanders driving around his Rolls. Wyoming is one of few genuine programs left. That makes them more relevant than ever.
I wont argue with your point about FCS (although regional FCS teams’ fans seem passionate and engaged). I’m just stating what I think are facts. Our choice is to be a crummy team in a crummy FBS conference or be an upper to middle tier FCS team. At least in football. Opinions vary, but those are the realistic outcomes.

Frankly speaking, I think it's a miracle Wyoming has held on as long as they have. College sports have become completely about the ability to negotiate the highest media rights deal. Wyoming does not have any leverage - we are a sparsely populated state with a school that has a fairly low enrollment number.

The brutal truth is that the thing that a lot of us love about Wyoming is the exact same thing that lead us to this situation with Wyoming athletics. Take a look at state population numbers over the past 30-40 years. Population numbers for Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Nevada have all almost doubled since 1990. Wyoming's population has ticked up about 16% during that same time frame.

We can't have our cake and eat it too.

It sounds like PAC may be willing to entertain the idea additional MWC teams but at lower shares and provided those MWC teams cover most (if not all) of the penalties. If there is an opening to Wyoming doing this, I’m not sure that’s a path to take.

The MWC effectively is dissolution proof now that the 4 have announced their departure. There remains 7 full time voting members of the conference and 8 football members. Any dissolution of conference requires 75 percent ratification. So dissolution would require 6 of the 7 to vote for it (and leaving only 1 team theoretically opposed).

Ultimately, I see no way UNLV is not eventually included in the new PAC. They offer too much along with desirable bowl/conference championship location. Nevada’s best chance is its relationship to UNLV.

I don’t see Air Force sticking around with this group given its national appeal and academy relationships.

This seems to be the best bet:
Wyoming
Utah State
New Mexico
San Jose State
New Mexico State
UTEP
Hawaii (football only)
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Montana
Montana State

Success is the only thing that fixes this. Our goal should be to be the best P5 school and get the invite to the playoff. Start by winning games, conference, then beating P4 schools. boise st was a nothing program growing up and dedicated a lot of resources to building a program that has gotten them relevant. Can't waste time and resources. Need a man with this vision for AD and head ball coach

If you're right, it's going to be hard to recruit to a conference with that collection. And the tv money will be next to nothing.

Ross Dellinger from Yahoo who broke the story first also mentioned Tarleton State as a possible MW school. Never heard of them myself but apparently they have deep pockets for an FCS school

Tarleton State. Now that’s big time!!

It’s a long time D2 school that I don’t believe ever made a final 8 in the D2 playoffs. Their endowment appears to be roughly $42 million and they are located in a rural central Texas town of Stephenville 20,000.

For comparison purposes, I believe Wyoming’s endowment is $800 million or so.
