CSU and Wyoming in Separate Conferences

The MWC commissioner was formerly a senior executive within the PAC-12 and also comes from the California school system. Do you believe she is actually upset with turn of events that could not have happened without her assistance?
No, I think she is pathetic but views her leadership as being "historic" and has no ability to judge her own ineffectiveness. Maybe we can invite Idaho to join what's left.

Not sure how I am going to react to all of this...it (WYO Sports) consumes way too much of my life as it is, and now, we are the Montreal Expos of college sports.
I wil still support Wyoming. I’ll still go to games because it’s not hard since I live in Laramie and all. But the era of big time college football is passing us by

Fair enough and I would too. It is one of the things that makes Laramie a great town. But I can't imagine ever being a ranked program again and I sure won't be spending thousands of dollars to fly half-way across the country to see Wyoming play New Mexico State (no offense to that program).

The csu inclusion truly perplexes me. What do they bring to the table?? Seriously? They have sucked as bad or worse than us for most of the past two decades
They have had a competitive BB program for a while now. Their football attendance is at least as much as ours. It's easy for teams to get to Fort Collins. The combined population of Larimer and Weld county (Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland and few other towns) is 700k. As someone who lives in Fort Collins, the fan support is pretty soft. But if they ever get good again, the bandwagon will fill up fast. But, in general, I agree with you. What they bring to the table is more about potential than their results.

From USA Today:

Fewer teams mean fewer mouths to feed with revenue sharing, especially when schools such as Wyoming and Utah State don’t bring the same viewership and brand cache to the revenue side as San Diego State and Boise State.

In effect, the Pac-12 is pruning away the lower branches of the Mountain West while poaching away the top fruit to reform a western league under the Pac-12 banner. The league then hopes to sell its media rights to a media company such as ESPN, with proceeds divided among the member schools.

...as if CSU, San Diego State or Fresno State are real NCAA powerhouses. What an insult and what a joke. Be warned, Gloria Nevarez has stated "we will have more to say in the days to come, [damnit, I hope so at least]". Absolute joke what is happening.

And those joining them are getting what, exactly? Oh, they'll throw a big party this week in Boise and San Diego and Fort Collins. They finally made it!

But they made it to an impostor Pac-12 whose resurrection is less compelling than a Journey reunion tour without Steve Perry as the lead singer.

The more I think about it, it seems like payouts and bowl ties (Alamo, Holiday, Sun, etc.) can help considerably for this decision if they still matter post-12 team playoff. I know I would have been very excited to join the party. I'm bitter and angry about what is unfolding, but also understanding of how ESPN can swing this while giving a giant middle finger to the rest of us. Its too bad those sitting in Laramie/Logan/ABQ don't just raise hell and blow this whole thing up. What else do they have to lose?

Power conference. In all reality there isn’t a team from the MW now the PAC that will ever compete with the real Power schools, SEC, BIG etc. All of these schools are betting on a better media deal, which is yet to be determined. The PAC didn’t negotiate the deal with the schools that fled.

That’s not a power conference. Marginally better than the current MWC. Marginally. Throw away decades of tradition, as well as, a truly fun regional conference is just BS. Screw all those teams

Guys - UW is irrelevant. I am among the biggest fanboys of UW sports (with frequent negative comments borne out of frustration) but if you take off your brown and gold glasses, the reality is plain as day. We are more like South Dakota, SDSU, NoDak, NoDak State, Montana, Montana State, and Idaho (except we can't beat them) than most of our current conference mates - no less P4 schools. We can continue to hemorrhage cash to try to keep up, or we can be what we are - a meh Group of Whatever school or a mid to top tier FCS school. Our AD, admin, BOT and state have no stomach for being bold and taking risks. We don't have the eyeballs (sure the networks need content, but it won't compel the money that is required to do anything but die a slow death), we don't have the fanbase, we don't have the money (soon to be even more diminished when the flying monkeys in the Legislature are done), and we don't have the recent successes (wins) on the court or field to justify ourselves as a Gonzaga-like addition (sorry boys, the Barstool Slapstick Bowl doesn't matter a hill of beans) to a decent conference. We struggle to raise $307,000 for NIL for heaven's sake. We aren't players. We haven't been since the 80's, which even most Wyoming fans hardly remember. So which do you prefer: Group of Whatever or FCS? Them's the options.

I make no commentary on CSU, BSU, SDSU and Fresno other than to say, they are making a play to be slightly better than "meh" group of whatever teams.

I would imagine it would have been close if not a little more than what the mwc would have gotten on renegotiation. Right now it looks like they paid 17 million to potentially make more tv money over the next 5 years. But it has to be 10+ million a year to offset the exit fee cost I would think. So it looks like a lateral move to get out of playing sjsu and hawaii.

And us.

I agree. I hope it makes them hemorrhage cash for each school. Goat U still has a stadium to pay for. Am I sour grapes! Yep!! I wish nothing but bad for them all.

Let me re-phrase. They think they are in a power conference now…..
