CSU and Wyoming in Separate Conferences

This is 100% what they're all HOPING happens. The reality is that they'll have to invite another 5 MW members so that they'll vote to dissolve the conference and the buyouts go away. Hawaii and San Jose State are completely fucked. We should be nervous for Wyoming.
Since you've been wrong about this the entire time, we now know what's not going to happen.

That is not my understanding of the scheduling agreement at at all.

The Pac 2 paid the MW $15 million this year for us to help them fill out their schedule. We didn't do it out of the goodness of our hearts. On a per game basis, this is likely more expensive than what the Pac 2 could have done on their own.

The $43 million is completely separate and was basically an insurance policy against this happening.
But that’s the thing - OSU and WSU could not have put together schedules this year without the MWC’s scheduling agreement. All of the MWC teams had already filled their football schedules and the only way it would work is for the MWC to reduce the number of ‘conference’ games so that WSU and OSU could actually have a schedule.

Had the MWC stood pat and said join us or nothing - OSU and WSU would have had no other realistic option. They couldn’t get anyone to join the PAC at that point because there was ongoing PAC litigation and no media partner creating too much unknown and risk for a MWC team to leave.

We provided OSU and WSU with a soft landing and the needed due diligence period to sort out the litigation and get the new media partner on board with assurances that were enough to convince the 4 MWC teams to now leave.

This absolutely will not be happening. We actually know this for sure now. The 4 leaving have prevented this from being an option. Those 4 no longer have a vote to dissolve the MWC. If PAC was going this route, it would have been done simultaneously to dissolve the MWC and prevent all of the buyout.

They can’t wait and see. For PAC to remain an NCAA conference, they must have 8 members by 2026. There will be 2 more teams joining. Pure speculation - but I think UNLV and Nevada are the next two to join after waiting another year to announce for legal reasons. PAC could also try to attract the likes of Tulane and Memphis but I can’t see those schools having a huge desire to join a conference and be on a geographical island.
This 1000% (for the second time this morning). We have to make sure that we don't dip below 8 ourselves since the PAC 2-6 still needs 2 more and it is highly likely that at least 1 of those is coming from the MWC (UNLV). If we did below 8, it becomes increasingly difficult to find replacements. Swallow some pride, call UTEP and NMST today (would likely jump from C-USA) and call Montana, Montana St, South Dakota St and North Dakota St tomorrow.

Exactly. They shifted leverage so whoever the last 2 or 3 are will pay their own buyout to join if more MWC teams jump.

No other option? I'm not so sure. I doubt that the OSU and WAZZU football programs would have folded without either joining the MW or signing a scheduling agreement. It may have been embarrassing for them to scrap together a schedule with FCS fill-ins and Umass/UConns. And maybe it would have even been expensive on par with the $15m they paid for the 7 MW games.

The fact that they are willing to eat the individual exit fees plus the $43 million shows the inevitability of all of this regardless of what the MW would have done. In fact, while it is a bitter pill to swallow to lose the traitor schools, the more I read i am more convinced that this is bad and desperate business by the Pac-2 and the traitors, fueled by delusions of grandeur and bitterness.

Its really time for the government to drop state and federal funding to institutions that are competing in this race. Its nothing more than a sneaky way to siphon taxpayer money into private companies. If they can afford to gold plate the urinals in the locker room, they sure as hell don't need government subsidies, financial aid, and research money.
Man...that is sooo cynical but after you described it...it's hard not to see it. The media "partners" are not partners at all.

I still see pretty much no levers that could have been pulled in the last 20 or so years that would have prevented this that are even tangentially within the control of UW.... We could have been much better at all sports and this still goes down this way or in some way where UW is on the outside looking in. It is a bitter pill for this Cowboy fan to swallow to see the arcs of the Wyoming and BYU athletic programs diverge over the years from the late '80s and early '90s until now. It will be intolerable to watch another version of it happen with CSU.

Our demise was pre destined. Basketball wise, we haven't been a factor in 20 years. In Football, one Josh Allen year got us close and that was it. So we aren't good enough, the market is too small, and schools don't want the hassle of having to get to Laramie. We were always going to be first one out.
It is the AD's responsibility to be competitive, what is the point otherwise? 2015 was a solid year for UW basketball...but outside of that, nothing. If the AD can't compete or doesn't do something to compete, it is all on them. If we were competitive (for MWC championships in MBB and Football), consistently over the last 10+ years, we wouldn't be in the situation we are in.

This hurts my heart to read this. You are right, and it's very hard to admit these items. What could have been if the AD would have only paid the Assistant Coaches more when the HC's asked for it.

Yeah I note how most of the schools that were the top of our conference over the last 20 years (Utah, TCU, BYU, Boise, Fresno State, San Diego State) are all already in bigger conferences or headed there. I get that they are all in bigger cities than Laramie, but athletic success does seem to have a bit of a correlation to it. CSU being the outlier

Personally, I think it would be fine to have all 4 in the same conference (FBS) as Wyoming. It makes sense, which is probably why it won't happen. I will say it again, our AD led this demise...and could have prevented it, instead of just being "ok to be ok". Fuck that. I am bitter.

The csu inclusion truly perplexes me. What do they bring to the table?? Seriously? They have sucked as bad or worse than us for most of the past two decades

As I get ready to fly out for the BYU game, getting todays news that MWC got "played" by Oregon State and Washington State is a real pisser. The Mountain West Commissioner got her ass handed to her. No way this ends well for Wyoming and other small market schools.

The MWC commissioner was formerly a senior executive within the PAC-12 and also comes from the California school system. Do you believe she is actually upset with turn of events that could not have happened without her assistance?
