Wyoming vs. SDSU

Shepherd just dominated Jason on both ends. Jason couldn't get a shot off against him or their length in general and was overmatched trying to guard him down low. Yeah the refs sucked and that charge call on Adams is an all time worst, but we got some less than stellar calls go our way as well. I'm just glad Josh's injury wasn't serious.
Yes. I noticed this. It was such a mismatch especially when Shepard would get JMac on the low block. I'll be happy to see Shepard, Spencer and Chol graduate.

The refs called the game poorly, but FT shooting killed us. I'm proud of how we played on the interior. Naughton and Herndon stepped up. Lieberman looked four steps slow compared to their thoroughbreds and I don't see what Gorski brings to the table. Let's just flush this game and get on to the next one.
Gorski is not worthy of a D1 scholarship. Guy struggles to even pass the ball. He almost throws it away every time. One 3 per game as his only contribution isn't what we need out of somebody in the 7-8 man rotation. Please play Justin James! At least he has a future as a contributor to the program.

I didn't want to be the one to bring it up again, but... geez, what does he have to do to see the court?

even on 1 leg Mr. Josh Adams is quite the little engine that could, I sure hope more people show up next week for senior night, he needs a good send off

Lets be clear, Shepard will use up his eligibility. No way in hell that guy graduates. Never seen anybody act more moronic on the court than him. Certainly not the brightest of bulbs, his dimmer is stuck on low.

Winston Shepard might as well stay and graduate. He doesn't have a chance in hell at making the NBA. He is an athletic big with good D a half-ass midrange jumpshot. Those guys are a dime a dozen in the pros. The sweetest moment of last year's tourney championship, was shutting Winston's big mouth for him. I have a real intense dislike of him.

I dont care for Shepherd anymore than the next guy and could care less about his future, but he abused Jason last night in the worst way. We will need more players like him (maybe not personality wise) if we want to be MW contender.

Missed free throws, SDSU shooting well above their average, and turnovers were the story of this game. Which one or two of those would be enough to doom us so the fact that we had all three I am surprised the game was as close as it was.

Really looked like SDSU decided to make sure McM didn't beat them. They knew Josh was going to get his but made sure JMAC didn't have any room to get a shot off. Then once he started getting shots he was rushed and never looked comfortable. Good defensive plan by SDSU.

Wyoming actually didn't play that bad in my opinion we just missed free throws. I believe 3 of the free throws that were missed were front ends of 1 and 1's. So you missed out on 3 extra free throws so in reality we were really 11-23 from the line. If we make just 4 more free throws we end up 15-23 still not great but keeps you in the game.

We also shot bad again for as many 3's as we took. Knock just two more of those down and go 12 -26 from 3 instead of 10-26 and it is a one possession game and anything can happen. Really when you look at it from that perspective the missed free throws and taking so many 3's have hurt us. We basically live and die by the 3 and by free throws. Yeah we have a turnover problem sometimes and also a rebounding problem but the free throws and taking so many 3's this year are what is either winning or losing us games.

I know you can play that game with missed shots back and forth with both teams as SDSU missed a couple of dunks but Adams and Lieberman missed a couple of easy lay ups also. Just shows though how close we are to being in every game just from the free throw line and 3 point line. Again we took 26 3's and only 17 two's. If we are going to take that many compared to the amount of two's we take we need to be knocking them down at over a 40% clip.

Gorski is and will be just fine. He is the 5th leading scorer on the team. He shoots a decent percentage from the arc. He is +1 on assists to turnovers. He has shown the ability to get to the glass. He is a true sophomore and will improve.

Shepard, Chol, and Spencer are all seniors and all they're good at is being big thugs. Spencer and Chol combined for 2 points last night. Not exactly world beaters. And half of you are acting like Shepard is the second coming of Lebron out there and he's a schmuck. He was the most athletically gifted player on the floor and only dominated on the defensive end against a white kid from Wyoming who had 1 division 1 offer while he was a top 100 national recruit. On the offensive end he had 14 points on 14 shot attempts. As much as he touched the ball he should've dropped 25 or 30 last night. He's a prime example of a guy who has not improved as a basketball player under Steve Fischer. :twocents:

Not sure who you are talking to about Shepard being Lebron. I haven't seen anyone say that. From a couple of your posts now though that I have read you are claiming that Steve Fischer isn't a good coach is that right?

Spencer is the reigning DPOY and Chol, his backup, is almost as good. All three would be Wyoming's best rebounder by a mile. I'll be happy to see all that length and athleticism graduate is all.

Some good posts in this thread...TSPoke, Seattlecowboy, NebraskaCowboy, JimmyDimes, et al.

SDSU clearly had a solid game-plan in place, and it worked beautifully for them. Forced TO's, a lock down D on JMac, Running the press all game, and the fact UW had it's worst game (% wise) from the stipe doomed us.

I hate the fact that fans point fingers at "Player A" or "Player B" as to the reason we didn't win the game - as that is clearly not the case. Those players may not have done much, or contributed at a high level, but this loss (like all losses) was a team loss.

I agree that I thought we actually played ok. It was just those couple of factors doomed us against a good team. If we hit our free throws better(which we can do) and they don't quite shoot as well it could go the other way. That is why if we played again in the tournament I wouldn't be scared(wouldn't be over confident either). We can beat these guys.

When?? He never gets to the glass. When he does drive and dish, it is a turnover. Not impressed with him at all.

The biggest factor was they gave us Josh and took away JMac. That was the difference. We out shot them and played pretty well overall and forced them into A LOT of fouls. Doesnt help that we missed a lot of them....

I saw a couple of posts about how Shepard was dominating on both ends of the court. You must have missed that. And I don't think Steve is all he's chalked up to be, especially at this point in his career. Spencer, and Dakari Allen were all top 150 recruits. Chol, Kell, Shepard, Cheatham, and Hemsely were all top 100 recruits. Malik Pope was a top 20 recruits. The only team out West that has this much talent is Arizona and look at their success. What has he ever done with this? This team should be a top 15 team in the nation and they'll be lucky if they get anything higher than a 9 seed. Larry Shyatt won the Mountain West tournament with a bunch of kids nobody wanted. Steve Fischer has a team of all stars and can't get out of the first weekend.

I agree I'll be glad to see them gone, I just don't think they bring much to the table besides size. I would definitely take them to play for us but if they couldn't throw their size around and picked up fouls like most other guys, they'd have short minutes and it would really be a mute point what they did.

My take on Gorski: He appears way too hesitant. He stands there holding the ball. It's like he can't think fast or is way overthinking everything. Just the look on his face gives it away. Maybe he just needs more practice time so that by the time he gets in a game it is instinct.
