Granted he has a pretty young secondary, what are your expectations from our DC? He is a seasoned DC with lots of experience but we did get pelted pretty good last year on occasion. We were 89th ranked D last year which was an improvement from 106 the year before and it was against a tougher schedule.

What say you? What are your expectations from the Coach? Does he improve another 20 or so spots?

Its hard to judge a coach this early into the processes. But I think the defense will improve. Everyone is worried about lack of experience, but the guys we had that had experience weren't any good so it doesn't matter how much experience they had. While the defense may be young, but they are said to be faster which is huge. Making a mistake at 100 miles an hour is not as bad as making a mistake at 50 miles an hour. While mistakes will happen, the increase in speed will help decrease the severity of the error.

I see fewer big plays being given up because of the speed of the DBs, but I'm worried about our ability to stop the run. Wacha injured, Muhammad out, 0 experience, it just doesn't look good at LB.

Wacha will be back by the opener....probably before then. Haven't heard about Muhammad being out. But, have heard good things about the younger Nzoecha as well as May/Kamana and Tuetin.

This will be year #2 of Bohl, so I expect the D to be a little stronger despite the lack of experience. Many of the player seem to be stronger and have more pop. Bohl mentioned that about Eddie. And Uso is excited about moving over to tackle. Could have some early growing pains, but I think the D will be improved.

I think much of that drop was do to the Time of Posession stat. He is still an upgrade over Tormey though.

Is Tormey still coaching HS ball?

I'm just going to make my new signature....

"We say this every year"

Nope! Tormey is coaching in the CFL as a linebacker coach.

I'd give him this season. Why? Only the 2 year we have been in this defense. Prior to this season, the guys had gone through a different defense almost every season. Let's see what happens with some continuity.

I think Eddie Yarbrough said this is the first year he isn't learning a new defense

The Wazzu game has potential for being a LOOOOONG afternoon.

Beav, you going to Pullman?

No I don't think so. I wanna but I don't think I can justify it. Long drive and wazzu will probably smoke us.

Did we really improve on defense last season? Or did we just hold onto the ball on offense longer?

Definitely could be this. We were ranked about 16 last year in TOP and somewhere around 90 the year before.

I wasn't a fan of the hire, but I trust Bohl. Since Bohl went this direction, I actually think you have to give Stanard at least 3 years.

I was wondering what people thought some of our defensive stats were going to look like. With a weaker schedule and presumably stronger O, I think we continue to climb the defensive rankings. Youth makes it hard to peg, however.

I think we will really struggle on defense, but I expect our offense with top notch RB's and a solid QB to be able to keep the clock moving and control time of possession. That should hopefully limit the chances for us to give up 50+ points, but I don't think we will force many punts this year.

Not sure how much of that to put on Stanard though. Between attrition, injuries, etc., we just have no depth and the secondary looks particularly risky. We need a couple more recruiting cycles to truly evaluate.

Shame on everyone who thinks Stanard needs time for results. FOR SHAME.

He is a tried and proven loser over his numerous stops and illustrious career as a SHITTY defensive coordinator.

GAH! Give him time!?!! All he's had is time and all he's done is fallen dick first into more jobs that he continues to suck at. The only expectation I have for this man is to be fired and replaced by an Inanimate Carbon Rod.

I agree - he is the weak link on staff. The fanbase at CSewe LOVED Bohl's decision to make Stanard our DC for a reason. Marty English would have been a far superior choice.

just spit out a little bit of coffee :coffee:

Agreed!

I guess I just think that practically, I see no way he leaves after this year.

My hope is that the supporting cast of coaches are better and will make him look better. I do agree with others, however, the first two years are going to be pretty tough to evaluate him on.
