They should. They are a developing team with buckets of talent all over the field and a good coaching staff. Recruiting has gotten a huge shot in the arm too.

Debatable.

Going to get a fair amount of wins? Yeah sure.
Going to get some upset wins? Yeah likely.
Going to get upset? Most definitely.

Everything is debatable, but the tangibles (an incredible increase in pulling top tier talent), and a fantastic job of playing to players strengths, and developing existing talent have been strikingly evident.

Just know losing games you have no business losing is a very real possibility with Coach Riley.
He will win some he has no business winning too though.

With his increased talent in Lincoln (compared to Corvallis) there is a very real chance that he quits dropping the games he shouldn't.
He had a lot of 2 and 4 star players in Corvallis, but could never get the the 2's to 3's. The Huskers should have no problem turning those 2's into 3's, continuing to get the 4's and even grabbing some 5's.

Still though, there always seems like a couple games each season Riley plays down to the competition.

Consensus 4's with 3 five stars visiting for the Fresno Game. If Bookie comes on board...watch the f out. The secondary will be incredible.

Someone is drinking the Husker kool-aid.

Recruiting is going ok, last year and this year they are hovering right around the #25 class in the country, give or take a few spots.

Biggest problem though is that they fired one coach and replaced him with someone that is not nearly as good IMO. Bo is the best coach since Osbourne, and I think will be the best coach they see for a while.

Bo was not a better coach, he was a dumpster fire who hired terrible assistants around him. He did it so he could control everything. He was also a maniac on the sidelines. His recruiting was horrible and there are all sorts of horror stories about what he and his staff did around recruits and their parents.

For example the staff trashed one of the boosters private jets on a recruiting trip and the boosters stopped lending them out. Bo and Barney cotton squeeled their tires outside of Bubba Starlings parents house when he let them know they would be going into the MLB draft. Most kids in interviews said they would never play for anyone with a temperament like that. Calling the AD a Pu..y a$$ C#nt in front of 105 players will not impress anyone.
Anyways saying he was the best coach since Osborne shows you don't know much about the program. Which I wouldn't expect you to. Just clearing up fallacies.

Nebraska fans would rather have someone on the sideline that embodies the spirit and demeanor of the people of the state...they built the culture of the team after all. Mike is that guy, Bo was not. Bo gave the University a bad name, even in winning. I'd take fewer wins, and doing it with class and respect over anything Bo could offer.

In my opinion Mike Riley is a very good coach and an even better guy. Which is why I was bummed when he went to Nebraska. I really don't like the Huskers so now I'm torn, I want Riley to succeed but want Nebraska to fail.

I get that. You want your team to conduct themselves in a manner that makes you proud. Still, a retread from Oregon State? The Nebraska fan base had to freak out when they realized they hired Mike.

It seems like with all the money you guys make from the B1G, you would be able to go get just about any coach in the country. In fact, I would expect that the majority of your fan base thinks that it's your god given right to hire almost anyone you want.

I know, as a Wyoming fan that was alive for the last two games that we should have won in Lincoln, I know I'm one hell of a lot more confident facing Mike Rilley than I am Tom Osborn or Bo Pellini. In fact, it's hard for me to believe that Mike Rilley is the best coach you guys could find.

Speak for yourself. That impressed me.

Bo Pelini is a national treasure and your boring-ass lot ruined him. I think of four things when I think of Nebraska:

1. Lawrence Phillips
2. Hair
3. Staircases
4. Bo Pelini's cat

In that order; so it's good to end on a high note.

What would everyone do two weeks every other year or so without Nebraska fans passionately defending the notion to anyone who will listen or read that the football team defines the state?

Once the fan base found out how much his previous players loved him, how much he cared for his "kids" and their life after football, and how dedicated he was to doing it right, Nebraska fans couldn't have been happier about the hire. There are a whole heck of a lot of things more important in life than football games, and this coach understands that. The reason Pelini got fired for winning 9 games a season is because of his demeanor and how it reflected on the University of Nebraska. Temper tantrums and tirades do a lot more for tarnishing an image than some extra losses....and I don't think we'll end up with either.

Just because I'm not a fan of mighty Nebraska doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. I assure you I know more about college athletics, and college football, than you and 99% of the rest of Husker nation. Bo Pelini is a better coach than Mike Riley, this is evident. Is Bo a good person? Hell no, he's an arrogant, maniacal asshole, but he is still a better coach than Riley, and easily the best coach since Osbourne (not hard considering it's only 2 other guys).

Oh God, please say that Riley's doing it "the Nebraska way". Please, please.

NE fans take themselves and their folksy image way too seriously. Bo was as interesting as he was ugly.

Yeah, that's great and all. It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

When has anything in Nebraska ever been more important than football games?

Who's Mike Riley? Who....you know, the guy that coached Oregon State TWICE. The guy, who's best season on record as a head coach is 10-4. We're not talking about Bob Devaney or Tom Osborne. This is Mike Riley, a guy that spent the majority of his career finishing 7-5, with a college career mark of 100-87.

We're not talking about any program, we're talking about Nebraska, a place that tolerated just about any behavior from their athletes, as long as they finished the season with 2 losses or less.

Is Mike Riley good enough for the Big Red? He never used to be.

The culture of Nebraska fans via the walk on pipeline is what helped to shape the team and it's identity. If that's not a reason to care about the image of the program, then I don't know what is.

I read that article about the NE walk-on program. Lots of pros from NE considering the population. Very cool. We will gladly offer a lot of these kids scholarships.
