MWC Hoops

No one other than WYO, SDSU and maybe the Sheep have looked good so far. The conference is down this tear imo.

It's certainly looking that way out of the gate. I don't think we're going to fully be able to say until near the start of conference and the OOC dust settles. Gotta play the games first, but yeah we're looking more like a 2 bid conference this year. Can't say I'm that sad though. I love to be able to look at the schedule not asking myself "how in the hell do we win that one". WE are the team THEY fear now.

Pokes just need to take care of business at home during conference play and make hay on the road. The games against SUDS could be epic this year. The Aztecs have shot the ball much better in Maui the last couple of nights. Getting the Sheep and Crybaby Eustachy in the AA will be fun, too.

Hoping to see solid defense on the road against Cal and SMU.

Way too early folks.
CSU is going to be tough. It seems like all the get are transfers who can ball immediately.

New Mexico is probably until officially de-throned.

UNLV will win a lot of games in the MWC finishing 4th or 5th as usual, with 20+ wins. They have horrible coaching, but their coaches do know the rest of the MWC.

I think 3 or 4 big league this season, likely 3.

Wyo, SDSU, New Mexico.
With UNLV and CSU making the NIT or CBI.

Oh shit, I forgot about Boise... Well... now I don't even know.

Down or not, the conference schedule is still going to be an absolute gauntlet that NO ONE will escape unscathed.

I just feel like we are going to be dropping the hammer on these teams this year. The road in the MW is always tough no doubt, but we might go undefeated in Laramie this year. We'll def outclass some teams on the road. I'd love for us to get our Greenie broom out and sweep all those Greenie teams into the Colorado dustbin. Maybe next year Greenies...maybe next year

So far Greenies 0 Pokes 2

I agree with this completely. I think we drop a couple on the road but dominate at the Dome of Doom!!!

Just realized how big it would be for this talented recruiting class in denver if we beat western state, northern colorado, CU, Denver, Regis, AFA x2, and CSU x2

9 games against Colorado schools.
And we are 3-0 against them so far.
1 win from the D2 level, 1 win from the "lower D1" and 1 win from the power 5.

I certainly hope we are not competing with the likes of Regis, Western and Metro State for players, but I get your point.

Definitely don't wanna be recruiting against them but to be able to say we went 9-0 against Colorado schools in one year shows the kids Wyo owns Colorado on the court, and they are likely to be able to play near home several times a year.

Similar situation for Utah football right now. They went 4-0 against California teams this season. Fresno, Ucla, USC, and Stanford. Just like any Pac12 team they are likely recruiting heavy in Cali and showing that you dominate a state where you recruit has got to help.

Big night tonight for MWC hoops. 7 games on tap.

Marquee Games:

UNLV @ ASU - ASU favored by 6. UNLV has looked bad at times, but ASU doesn't have anything resembling a quality win. WIth Vaughn at 100%, I think UNLV wins this and they need to for the sake of the MWC.

NMSU@UNM - Fortunately for us, it won't as bad if NMSU goes into the Pit and gets a win since we played NMSU OOC but it would be better for us RPI wise if UNM won. UNM is in a tough spot right now with injuries and NMSU is very good. You never know with these kinds of rivalries but I think NMSU wins fairly easily.

UTEP@CSU - Two really good teams. Would be a quality win for the MWC.

Other Games:

Grambling @ AFA - Grambling..is not good.

Nevada @ LBSU - Would be a quality win for the MWC, but I don't see it happening.

UCI @ Fresno - UCI, along with UCSB, should be at the top of the Big West this year. They have been tested with a close loss to St. Mary's and a game against Arizona. From a pure talent perspective this should be a very good game, however Fresno has just played awful all year and if they play like that tonight they will get blown out of their own arena by a Big West team. Hopefully they wake up and start playing like they are capable of.

SJSU @ UC Davis - SJSU...is not good.

Only one "sure thing" tonight. MWC needs to go at least 4-3 tonight to stop the OOC bleeding.

Decent night for the MWC. Disappointed in UNLV, but pleasantly surprised by UNM and Fresno. Hopefully they are both turning the corner as the MWC really needs to pick it up OOC over the next month.

MWC is going to need to pick it up or we are going to be a one or two bid league. I have a feeling WYO or CSU is going to get left out of the Dance, and it better not be us!

Currently, WYO +7.5 vs. SMU (Now down to +6.0)

UTEP vs. CSU: Incredibly sloppy first 15 minutes by UTEP last night. Down 30-15, including six missed layups and seven turnovers. The Miners were also lazy on defense at times. Could never fully recover.

Attendance problems: A reported 3,480 Sheep fans elbowed their way into Moby last night to watch the undefeated Rams play UTEP. The population of Fort Collins/Loveland is around 2.5 times larger than Laramie/Cheyenne.

Way to early to even bring something like this up. Enjoy the ride. If the Pokes play like they have been playing, they will not be left out. But, still a bunch of ball to play.

We haven't even played a conference game yet.

It seems obvious to me who the class of the conference is: WYO, SDSU, and CSU. It also seems obvious that it's not going to be a three-bid league this year. It's also obvious that SDSU is going to make it, therefore....
