Last Two Games in Logan Were Ugly

10/8/11 WYO 19 USU 63

11/30/13 WYO 7 USU 35

Hopefully we can keep it respectable this time around.

I was at both of those games. Definitely not going to make it Friday for the 3rd beat down.

Remember when every time Wyo played USU it was an automatic win?

Ha ha. Ironically enough, I was at Utah State during that time. It was great.

5-7 years ago USU was awful. Those were good times, lol.

I agree with y'all. I'll be satisfied if WYO can be competitive. Key injuries and an underperforming bunch are going to make it tough to come out with a win.

Both those bad losses happened when we had a different head coach. A head coach who had his team give up on many occasions.

Comparing the past two games in Logan to the game Friday is apples to oranges.

If our 3rd string, rs freshman qb doesn't make many mistakes (ints) and can complete 50% of his passes, we will be in this game. Make too many mistakes and we will not. Simple as that.

Utah State is living and dying on turnovers. They forced 8 vs Boise and win....they lose the turnover battle at SDSU and get whipped. Both teams threw for under 100 yards....meaning our running game might have some success.

I was just pointing out that Logan is our new house of horrors. It's true, can't really compare a this team to a DC team. But, I agree, I think we can compete, but it'll take a perfect game from us penalty-wise and TO-wise. Plus I'm not sure USU is all that great. They're good, but not Boise-good.

I understand....but last year the game in Laramie was competitive....except the Pokes gave up a couple big plays (punt return and a long run for a TD). Wyoming out gained USU in that game.

The guy who basically won the game by himself last year was kicked off the team. Not saying that gives us a chance, though...

I say we run an offensive game plan similar to that when we played Smith against EMU. USU seems to struggle defending the run. Add a running QB on top of that and I think we have just as good a chances at a game similar to that of SDSU. Smith will still need to complete a few passes. Just as long as it's not 3-13-0-0-0. We def don't need that again.

Any word on Wick? Or is he done for the year?

Exactly, hell, usu was lucky to escape Laramie with an intact team. Who the hell are they? Hell, I know they beat their FCS opponent, but it was barely. If you look at the combined records of the teams they lost to, it is phenomenal, but that is besides the point. Well, wait, I guess on paper, when you look at the combined records of the teams they lost to versus the combined records of the teams we lost to, then we don't really match up well.

Still, throw out all the predictions and always remember, we have Cowboy Tough!! Hill is going to run all over byu-light. Who have the beat? Boise? Can you say fluke?

No, but it helps. We had no answer for Natson last year.

Thought I'd chime in and give an Aggie fan's opinion. I'll preface my comments by saying that among all fan bases in the MWC, Wyoming fans are my favorite and always have been. You guys/gals are an easy bunch to talk to. Thanks.

I think you guys are in for a pleasant surprise. Utah State runs a 3-4 defense which is extremely dependent on a great nose guard who can plug up the middle. We lost our starting nose guard Travis Seefeldt prior to the season in an auto accident. We lost our 2nd string guy David Moala, who had become a team leader on defense this year, in the game two weeks ago against Boise State. As a result, we are now running a rotation of about 5 guys, including 2 3rd stringers on the defensive line. That turned into disaster against San Diego State because we couldn't stop the run...at all.

Now we face a Wyoming rushing attack that ranks 4th in the nation. I hope our coaching staff has shored up some of the issues we had last game, but I'd be lying if I said I felt comfortable heading into this game. Our linebackers are studs, but they can't make up for a porous defensive line.

Moala isn't out for sure is he? What I was reading was they didn't know because Coach Wells doesn't discuss injuries but do you have a feeling he is out? That would make things better for us. Not confident enough to think we will win but if he is out we have a shot maybe.

I don't expect Moala to play. Wells typically plays off injuries when they are not severe enough to keep a player out for a full game or two. The fact that he isn't saying anything tells me he won't be back this week. If he were going to play this weekend Wells would be saying something to the tune of "he just got banged up a bit and we held him out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons. He'll be good to go for Wyoming." The silence says that's not the case.

At least you have 3rd string DL. We have linebackers at DE and safeties at LB. seems like all the youngins are starting to gel. The fact that our 3rd string QB is in gives me little hope.

Welcome man. You are one of the only Aggie fans I have read that don't feel comfortable with this game....cause most on the USU site are talking more about the MWC Championship game, BYU game etc. than this one. I get why, but if the overall sentiment is there for fans, makes you wonder what the players are believing. After getting beat, Nevada's players said they saw the record and didn't' take practice near as seriously as other weeks.

I am hoping for a good game. I am stoked to go. I will be with my brother in law from South Jordan who will be decked out in blue and white, but the rest of our group will be cheering for this young Cowboy team. :thumb:

You'll have to forgive Utah State fans. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, we used to be the team that everyone in the country would feel comfortable going against. We're still new to this crazy thing called "success." We're probably getting way ahead of ourselves talking about playing, even hopefully hosting, the MW championship game, but it's hard not to get excited about the fact that it might actually happen.

Enjoy your trip to Logan. Our stadium is under major renovation so pardon the dust/temporary press boxes/poorly lit field/inadequate bathroom facilities and concessions/etc. I hope our fans treat you well. Drive safe.
