Last Two Games in Logan Were Ugly

I live in Layton area now. I drove by the stadium last week after golfing at Birch Creek. Looks in rough shape right now ha.

I was there during the Brent Guy era. I am trying to remind myself of that in relation to Wyoming's current state. I remember people (literally) with bags over their heads at games with maybe 5k people there, and half gone by halftime. Free Kevin Robinson! :)

I am looking forward to the game. Win or lose, I love watching the Cowboys play. Living in Utah, I don't see them very often (maybe three times per year). I am seeing a lot of bright spots right now on this team.

I watched a fair amount of the SDSU game and it gave me a little hope that we should be in this game, until Coffman got hurt against Boise. I expect this game to be a lot like last year in Laramie with big plays deciding the whole thing.

That DC game in Logan a few years ago was absolutely horrible, I almost got in a fight with a USU fan for "standing up and cheering for the wrong team." Not to mention the beat down we took and seeing a team absolutely quit on the field after being up very early.

The game could come down to ball control for UW. As pointed out above, WYO has #4 rush offense in NCAA. Long drives resulting in points, particularly TDs are going to be critical. Keep USU's defense on the field and tire them out. The match up does not seem as good for WYO's defense. How about that old saying, the best defense is offense.

I thought it was "The best offense is a good defense"?

To make this game a little more intriguing, there are rumblings in Logan right now that we may see Chuckie Keeton tonight. I doubt he starts or takes a lot of snaps, but they may test his knees a bit here and there. We have been using our 3rd string QB a few plays a game in the wildcat. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chuckie take that role tonight.

I'm sort of lost on this. Where are the stats that have us #4 rushing offense? I've seen somewhere around 70 with 166 yards/game. Also, why do people think usu is soft on the run? Outside of an emotional letdown game against SUDS and the Utah game, they've been solid (I never count FCS games/ yes, I know, fanboys, FCS is the same as half of FBS  ):
Fuskies 74 yards Season AVG 122
CSU 108 yards Season AVG 164
Fresno 82 yards Season AVG 130.6
Boise 34 yards Season AVG 175.4

Hell, usu is ranked 29th in rushing defense and 23rd in total defense. Can someone enlighten me on these two points (where UW is ranked so high and usu is not great/good against the run)?

Sorry, I mis-spoke. Brian Hill is the #6 rusher in the NCAA this year, not Wyoming as a whole.

As for Utah State's rush defense, we are good when healthy. Right now we're not. San Diego State just put up 336 yards rushing on us.

What are the main losses (other than Moala) on your D between the BSU game and the SUDS game? Thanks for the information, btw.

Also, SDSU is quite a bit better rushing team than we are, I think.

I don't think Boise had their stud rb for that game. Their backup isn't solid. Regardless, Utah State does have a good defense.....that is why we need to control the the ball and not turn the damn thing over.

The only way Wyoming even stays somewhat close in this game is if Nick Smith can throw and complete passes.

He did complete a couple of nice balls at the end of the game last week but not sure if that was just because it was the last drive of the game with not much time on the clock and Boise was in a prevent or he can actually throw like that and we just weren't seeing it before. My guess is it is the former which then leads me to believe Wyoming is going to have trouble scoring in this game.

Utah St. isn't bad against the run and they can watch film and see Nick struggles throwing it so they will probably stack the line and make Nick have to throw it. This may end up not being pretty. Hope I am wrong but unless Smith somehow starts throwing it better think we might be in for a long night.

That and the turnovers forced them out of their gameplan. BSU game is a definite asterisk--no argument there.

I find that Fonzy has insights into the program that are rare. He really has his hand on the pulse of this team. And his posts are far more coherent than most of ours.
