Holy hell...if Burman gets Tedford and some cash for assistants, that is huge. I know Tedford had a sour run at the end, but this was a guy that was getting romanced to go to the NFL or other, big-time programs, if I remember correctly. He is relatively young and hooked into assistants and recruits we have really never had a shot at. If he has the fire in the belly again, which an interview should sort out, we could be onto something big.
I do not think that the cupboard is bare - we have a lot of RS kids that will be able to contribute. However, the ability to take the raw ingredients in that RS pool (and returning starter pool) was never really there with Dave. With Tedford - different ballgame, at least IMHO.
I seem to think I remember he was fairly good at adjustments and in-game coaching, but at the time I was watching Cal, everyone was so high on him, that it could have been overlaid with a lot of hype. My two big questions for any coach:
(1) Can you develop the lesser known kids and get some of the middle tier players for the program? and
(2) Can you make adjustments at half time or are you going to be a stubborn mule about your game plan?
