Jeff Tedford to Wyoming?

I like the idea of Tedford my only concern is that he did hire Marcus Arroyo away from us as his QB coach. I wasn't that impressed with Arroyo but maybe he is a good position coach.

Arroyo did get us ACS. Maybe Tedford was looking for his next big time QB and saw that Arroyo had recent success with ACS and figured he might have some recruiting ties to somewhere Tedford didn't.
Who knows.
Maybe it was just simply a bad, desperation hire.

Tedford's 2004 Cal team was 6 points away from playing in the BCS national Championship game. USC edged them out by the score of 23-17. Then Cal won the rest of their games and were ranked #4 going into the bowl games and the BCS bowls decided to take another team besides Cal. Cal ended up going to the Holiday bowl instead and lost to Texas Tech because they weren't interested in playing after getting passed up for the BCS game.

Tedford is a really good coach and would think he could do some good things with the change of scenery for him coming to Wyoming.

How does Nebraska do it? They have tons of big farm boys. Oh, is it because we have ranches, where the kids work hard all day so they don't end up weighing 300 pounds, while Nebraska is full of a bunch of tractor riding, corn eating tubby boys?

Where do these big boys come from?

Nebraska will get essentially all in state recruits that can play sans a few that go to other big name programs. The reason they have more is two-fold: their high school football culture is probably a little better but more importantly they have more people. Still, the Northern regions in general produce fewer players per capita than Southern Regions (and Cali). Part of that might be aging demographics with fewer kids and part of that is no doubt football culture in high school.

Still, Nebraska isn't a recruiting hotbed per se and the leftovers aren't really better and might be worse than available recruits in Southern States.

I remember Glenn having lots of linemen on roster trying to find anything that would work. At Wyoming, it just hasn't for whatever reason.

I'll say it again: Colorado (well, Denver metro) is practically western California anyway, kids here don't even care about CU anymore they root/want to play for USC, Cal, UCLA, Oregon, and Stanford. You would have the winningest coach in Cal history in your living room. The guy who coached Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, Joey Harrington, Trent Dilfer, David Carr, tons and tons of dudes. 40 some players got drafted under him JUST at Cal. If you don't think he's a good enough offensive coach to adjust his scheme to his players, I challenge you to an old fashioned duel. We have some decent O-lineman, but again we were maybe the worst coached team in the conference in terms of player develop for whatever reason. Kaligis would keep us with the PACNW. Wouldn't hurt to get an asst with a CO connection. The key with Tedford would be getting the right defensive coordinator.

This piece about Aaron Rodgers tells me a lot about Tedford...

Sure wouldn't hurt to be able to send a recruit prospect to Aaron Rodgers for an endorsement of the man.

Big tweet.....

Buzz Tedford-Wyoming could happen pretty soon, but Tedford's in Hawaii on vacation. @BFeldmanCBS reported Tedford getting traction with Wyo

LasCrucesPoke, I will take you up on your duel challenge. Not because I disagree with you about Tedford, but just because a good ole fashion duel just seems fun. A dying sport if you ask me :D

Aaaaah yeah!

Colorado produces about 24 FBS players a year. Of those, the top end choose big 5 programs by a large percentage.

At the end of the day, it is what it is: ID gems in the rough and coach them up.

Again, I'm not against Tedford; just wonder about his system in Laramie.

I understand the concern, but I think we have enough talent on offense that he can do it. It comes down to can he hire a D-Coordinator.

I think it comes down to Burman finding some cash to pay for a solid coaching staff. We need to inject a few million into salaries across all coaching at UW.

Good piece on Tedford from College Gameday in 2008.

Haha those were the days.

The more I learn about Tedford he just keeps moving up my list. Would not be a bad hire at all... He made Aaron Rogers and that's a good sell to recruits.

Sounds like Tedford could
1- not only keep Smith here, but could be greatly influential for his career. "Brett, I want you to meet my friend Aaron..."
2- recruit the PNW
3- groom Thompson
4- help Beaverpoke's dream of getting to a BCS game

ok. All but #4
