Jeff Tedford to Wyoming?

Tedford seems to be an odd fit, but I think would be a good coach to come in and be able to put a recruiting class together. He also appears to be a great fund raiser and we need that as well. I wonder if Tedford perhaps may be trying to leverage Wyoming interest for a different job.

Maybe a little "Dennis Erickson-esque", but what poke fan wouldn't be excited over this?

What about Tedford is anything like Erickson?

A coach with past success going down a rung in an attempt to make a comeback

Well I guess that's true, but there's lots of other coaches who have taken a similar path and done it without being the self-aggrandizing, malcontented shithead Erickson is.

Colorado produces about 24 FBS players a year. Of those, the top end choose big 5 programs by a large percentage.

At the end of the day, it is what it is: ID gems in the rough and coach them up.

Again, I'm not against Tedford; just wonder about his system in Laramie.
I'm curious as to what specific system would be successful in Laramie?

I think any system can work if coaches can get the players they need and develops those players. I don't believe that we are getting lesser talent than most of the schools in this conference. Only SDSU, Fresno, and Boise seem to get the better talent out of HS.

I'll say it again: Colorado (well, Denver metro) is practically western California anyway, kids here don't even care about CU anymore they root/want to play for USC, Cal, UCLA, Oregon, and Stanford. You would have the winningest coach in Cal history in your living room. The guy who coached Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, Joey Harrington, Trent Dilfer, David Carr, tons and tons of dudes. 40 some players got drafted under him JUST at Cal. If you don't think he's a good enough offensive coach to adjust his scheme to his players, I challenge you to an old fashioned duel. We have some decent O-lineman, but again we were maybe the worst coached team in the conference in terms of player develop for whatever reason. Kaligis would keep us with the PACNW. Wouldn't hurt to get an asst with a CO connection. The key with Tedford would be getting the right defensive coordinator.
That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean Eastern California?

I think we are on the right track with a spread or read option type of offense. These tend to neutralize speed and good defenses. Granted defenses are adjusting, but it is still the best type of offense if you are a little overmatched.

For us, I worry about the pro-style or smash mouth football route. Both of those require outstanding linemen in order to be successful against all teams. Linemen in general are the hardest position to acquire which is why they are so coveted in the NFL draft. I'm just not sure we will ever get the athletes up front to do that.

With that said, Tedford is a smart guy and an offensive architect so to speak. He very well could devise a system that is better than anything others can offer.

Maybe we should just go after Erickson?

You must be very young, but you just suggested that we go after a complete lowlife in every way imaginable. I was at the luncheon on the day he was introduced to the Cowboy Joe Club and I sat right across the table from him and saw him put his hand down on the table in a definitive manner saying that he was going to stay at Wyoming as long as it took to make Wyoming a top program! What a liar, within one year he was interviewing everywhere that he could to get out of Laramie as quickly as possible. There were reports in Laramie connecting him to different schools and he came on and said there was nothing to worry about, those are just newspapers talking. In fact one evening he was meeting with his team telling them that he wasn't going anywhere and that he would be there the next year.....noon the next day he was being introduced as the new HC at Washington State! The scumbag left his wife in Laramie to face the music! Just a few days before this he had spent $30,000 on a recruiting film and it was a waste. When Erickson was hired by Arizona State he found out after he was hired that Wyoming was on the schedule and he made his AD buyout the game because he was too embarrassed to show his face back in Wyoming! This guy has lied everywhere he has gone and had DUI's and left programs in NCAA shambles (Miami) after he left. This guy is the worst excuse for a football coach and human being I have ever seen and has been fired and left so many programs under a cloud it isn't funny.

If they hired Erickson I would give up my season tickets, burn my UW diploma and all of my clothes and other things with Wyoming on it and never have anything more to do with the university!

Im pretty sure he was joking.

As the name gives away, I played football at Cal..before Tedford unfortunately, but I took a recruiting trip to Wyoming and I kick myself for not ending up in Laramie. I hope you guys end up with Tedford. You will get a quality coach with a great offensive mind. JT is a class act…from the moment Cal opened at Baylor for his first game we knew we had something special with JT. He turned around a program with a history of horrid football and a weak fan base. Got us very close to tasting a Rose Bowl but that's another story, thanks Mack Brown.

His run at Cal dipped when Kevin Riley drove my #2 ranked Bears down into the red zone against Oregon State and decided to get tackled in bounds rather than throw the ball away…time expired and we lost a #1 ranking, can't remember who was #1 but they lost that day as Cal played. Anyway, JT lost a little of his edge that day and his downfall began. I think it's more than that though. He had to deal with the worst facilities in the Pac..which he was able to lead a massive renovation. He had to deal with the Treesitters…Berkeley, sigh.

I think JT was just tired. Cal is a tough nut to crack for sports. Graduation rates are really what killed JT's tenure. Say what you will about Cal but we do want our players to graduate and when the rates fell to the bottom of the Pac-12…he had to go. I tend to believe it was a combo of everything that wore the guy out. However, with a year under his belt to rejuvenate….I believe the sky is the limit for JT and, hopefully, Wyoming. JT cares about his players and they are extremely loyal to him…ask Aaron Rodgers. He will have the team motivated and coached up. He has deep ties to the coaching community so I'd think he can fill a quality staff.

Also, he continues to get money from Cal…a lot of money, so money probably won't be much of an issue. It's worth looking into his buyout from Cal because it created a massive firestorm and should lead to our AD being fired…in addition to her hire of a terrible head coach last year.

Anyway, best of luck to you guys and I hope JT gets hired and points the program in the direction he led ours. This time though, I hope he sticks it out…I'd love to see the Cowboys in a BCS game.

Good stuff. Thanks for the info. Im getting onboard for Tedford. I have a feeling that if he wants to coach here he has the job. But what do I know.

Thanks guys…also worth watching, Cal is losing a bunch of players who would rather transfer than play in the Tony Franklin Failure offense. Most noteworthy is Zack Kline, Elite 11 redshirt freshman. Good kid with a big arm and a Tedford recruit. Lots of speculation on where he ends up but I've heard he loves JT…could be interesting.

We had a home game scheduled with ASU?

No sorry, correction, the game was scheduled to be played in Arizona, but he couldn't face the people from Wyoming even on his own home turf. In addition only a scumbag like Whittingham at Utah would hire him, they deserve each other. I heard that Whittingham was wearing out his welcome in Salt Lake City, but that they are not going to make a change this year at least and who knows what will happen next year, but just the same Whittingham is not the great coach that they once thought he was. I am so happy to know how pathetic Utah's football program now is, it is the bottom of the PAC-12 and likely to stay there for a very long time along with CU.....that is my Christmas gift!

You can tell how much ire is still left in me all of these many years later involving this scumbag! I am glad to know that that was a joke....I just couldn't see how a Poke fan would honestly suggest that.
