Jeff Tedford to Wyoming?

Goldenbear said:
His run at Cal dipped when Kevin Riley drove my #2 ranked Bears down into the red zone against Oregon State and decided to get tackled in bounds rather than throw the ball away…time expired and we lost a #1 ranking, can't remember who was #1 but they lost that day as Cal played. Anyway, JT lost a little of his edge that day and his downfall began. I think it's more than that though. He had to deal with the worst facilities in the Pac..which he was able to lead a massive renovation. He had to deal with the Treesitters…Berkeley, sigh.

I think JT was just tired. Cal is a tough nut to crack for sports. Graduation rates are really what killed JT's tenure. Say what you will about Cal but we do want our players to graduate and when the rates fell to the bottom of the Pac-12…he had to go. I tend to believe it was a combo of everything that wore the guy out.

That one play was absolutely brutal. I still remember Tedford's reaction which was cut off some on this clip. If Cal was winning, that graduation rate business would be conveniently ignored. I agree that it was part of the reason he was fired and am also hopeful that if Wyoming can pull this off, it would be a huge get. If grad rates were Tedford's biggest knock, that's really the least of my concerns at Wyoming.

Side rant: For anyone questioning the perceived move from the Bay Area to Laramie, do more research on his history. 8 years in Canada before Fresno, Oregon and then Cal. Different places are cold, and lazy media plays up Laramie being cold. I wish the average fan didn't feed that paper tiger. /rant over

Ugh…bad day, tough year. As for the grad rates being overlooked, wasn't going to happen. There is still the possibility of a bowl ban…lol (1-11 this year) but that really wouldn't help pay for the hundreds of millions spent on renovations.

For what it's worth..JT is living in Reno, colder than Berkeley..maybe not Laramie. I agree though, I don't think the perception of cold winters would sway JT from what he could see as an opportunity to build a program.

In one of those interviews after he was fired, Tedford said the graduation rates were significantly hurt by guys leaving school to prep for the draft and not coming back to finish their degrees. A problem I would be glad to have.

Don't know if its kosher to link to another message board or not, but this is a discussion on a bear board about Tedford possibly being a candidate for Wyoming. The last couple pages are a hoot.

I think Big C_Cal's friend is pulling his leg, lol.

That said, its snowing, 6 inches or so today (1-2 was forecasted) and its about 9 degrees outside.

With Glenn we had Demo and Wynell.

We just never had a QB.
If we had Brett Smith for 4 years under Glenn, don't you think we would have won quite a few more games?

I guess I don't see why the O-Linemen could block in the run game, but couldn't in the pass game.

Difference in opinion, I guess, but I don't remember a solid O line since maybe old pool shark. If I remember correctly, we could push a little his last year.

The highest I remember Glenn's rushing rankings was 34th and that as 08. Our lines have been bad for awhile. Even our best D lines in the Glenn years were just good but not great even within the MW.

I'm not being a downer here, but my opinion always has been that our shortcomings have been more the lines than anything.

How does Nebraska do it? They have tons of big farm boys. Oh, is it because we have ranches, where the kids work hard all day so they don't end up weighing 300 pounds, while Nebraska is full of a bunch of tractor riding, corn eating tubby boys?

Where do these big boys come from?

For what it's worth, Bearinsider is a decent source but the moderators are idiots and the posters argue over each other's intellect. However, it took them until 2012 to bash Tedford and only about 4 games to bash Sonny Dykes.

Bearinsider are Tedford haters…remember this is Cal, 99% of them never played a sport or had to perform under pressure outside of a classroom. I don't know if there is a student body or faculty with less passion and understanding of sports than Berkeley.

Less passion? Welcome to Wyoming!

Posters arguing over each others intellect? Welcome to Wyonation!

Hahaha.

But seriously, thanks for the posts and the comments, pretty insightful.
