Fire Sawvel

I don't even bother with his weekly press conference. I'm assuming he isn't making a QB change or we'd have heard about it. Just incredible that after 4 weeks of the worst offense in D1 football, he just stands pat. This is Vic all over again.
Totally. He’s a certified moron

Dude makes like $400k a year and we are not getting any intelligable answers, questions asked, etc. He's probably jacking up the prices on the stadium as we speak, waiting for the immenent outflow of fans and charging more to the few that still show up.
Actual salary is $551k a year. https://www.uwyo.edu/budget-finance...afiles/docs/budget/alpha-book-online-fy24.pdf page 25

Winning percentage in conference games of the football program is 41% and mens basketballat 34% in his tenure. 0 conference football championships and 1 MWC basketball tournament championship with 0 regular season titles. He tries to blame it on the remoteness and poor television market, but the real reason the PAC12 wants nothing to do with Wyoming are those numbers above.

During his tenure he has paid out the following buyouts: Heath Schroyer received a buyout of $480,000, Allen Edwards who received a buyout of $220,000, and Steve McClain who received a buyout of $380,000. Former football coaches Joe Glenn and Dave Christiansen received $316,000 and $570,000.

I'm certain that if they paid him half as much you would see the same results. Nobody else is hiring him to be athletic director anywhere.

I have yet to see Ed Siedel do anything? Does he have a pulse?

Holy shit. $550k to work as little as possible, and "do more with less". No vision, no inspiration, no passion. Get the guy the hell out of Wyoming. He has proven time and time again, he is simply unqualified. And he has pulled the wool over Wyoming fans eyes for 18 years. Shame on us all.

Too stubborn to make a change. He would rather gaslightlight us that we’re not seeing what we’re seeing and he’s the best chance we have to get a win.

I vaguely remember some of us wanted him fired more than a decade ago for extending Heath Schroyer. I believe you were one, as well. I don't think he has fooled anyone. Sadly, I think expectations are so low at Wyo. that even mid level success is viewed as miraculous. Maybe the Shyatt hire saved him. I guess we'll never know if he's ever been close to getting fired. But he's the last person I want hiring the new football coach.

You are correct, I was one of them. I mean, who survives that poor of a hire, let alone the extension, then the mid-season turmoil and firing? I would have been launched had I done something similar in my career!

Correct. But even if he was making $40k a year, it was too much compared to his effort, energy, drive, desire, passion, work ethic, vision, etc.
I better get off this dead horse, but if your making $550k a year, you should have some winning coaches on staff, plans to move into the NFL's AFC West division, and most importantly, solutions to the common problems and complex problems. Now, I guess, the athletics department doesn't even let people call into their press conferences? What next, the only way to communicate will be via telegraph or smoke signals where the press, in person, can ask about the new leather helmets they purchased?

Oh no, CSU moved to a different conference? Don't you talk to your fellow AD's? Or is it too hard to get in and out of Laramie to develop relationships with peers at other universities?

This disgusts me almost as bad as the NIL and realignment bullshit.

BOT has to approve anything he does, don't they?

Again, Burman is a local and a longtime member of the good ol' boys club. His roots run deep here and there's probably a few individuals that don't want to rock the boat.

I think he also bought himself a metric f*ckton of goodwill for the Bohl years, and to a lesser extent for being involved in a rather successful rebranding/marketing campaign.

The board of trustees meets today. Burman is scheduled to address them. Be interesting to see if any of them even question anything or if it is just business as usual.

Sunshine pumpers unite! None of those clowns will question him, or hold him accountable - for anything. This is a typical "point the finger" situation, and Burman will never take accountability for things others may perceive (or be convinced to perceive) out of his hands.

There is a real problem when it comes to "accountability" as it relates to this. I think reasonable people understand the enormity of the task that UW athletic directors are trying to succeed at. We have to stop looking at blame and start focussing on success. Somehow we need to change the frame to something like the following:

"We understand that there are things outside of your control that are impossible for you to foresee. The failure of UW athletics may not be attributable to your (Burman or the next AD) actions, but your actions did not bring about success. For that reason and that reason alone, we thank you for your years of service and are terminating your tenure as the athletic director at UW"

The problem is Wyoming simply does not have the luxury of firing Sawvel and eating his contract. We are likely stuck with him for at least a couple of years. The solution has to start at the top with canning Burman and bringing in someone new and from outside willing to do a full assessment and overall what ever needs to be done.

This is the reality. We owe Sawvel the full money whether we fire him this year or 3 years from now.

But this program will be incapable of being saved when we have back to back 2-10 seasons (or worse) against bad competition. NIL money for football is an absolute waste. We aren’t attracting any players to turn this around. Dollars folks want to donate to NIL would be much better served in a fund to replace the coaching and AD staff. There’s no argument to retain Burman after this latest HC contract fiasco.
