Fire Sawvel

I didn't realize Sawvel was hired to a 5-year contract. What moron gives an unproven, zero-HC experience coach a 5-year contract?? Burman and Sawvel both need to be shown the door.
It gets worse. Buyout in the first three years is 80%, so they would need to pay him $4.7 million to go away at the end of this season.

Unbelievable.

Contract like that has little incentive for success and to fire staff friends when you need to.

But if you don’t spend that $4.7 million this year, it will end up costing the program well over $10 million in losses. So I’d suggest paying up and moving on.

I think the 80% buyout is if he leaves for another job. That's what would be owed UW.

If he's fired without cause he gets all his remaining base and guaranteed compensation for each of the remaining years. I'm not sure how they defined "without cause"? Maybe there's a loophole? Probably not.

It'll be interesting to see what junior got bumped to.

You know you can easily request the employment contract for him since he is a state employee, right?

UW has always been very responsive to FOI requests I've made in the past. If they don't want to release it for some reason, they would have to make an appeal to the Wyoming Attorney General's Office and argue their reason for not releasing it.

I re-read what was out there in the media about Sawvel's contract after he signed it last winter. It appears it is structured with a fairly low "base salary" of $300k. He has other guaranteed compensation that bring his total salary up to $1.1 million this year. Depending on how the buyout clause is worded, that low base salary may just save UW's ass. Some buyouts include only the base salary while others include all guaranteed compensation.

We would probably need an employment/contract attorney to read over it to get a firm idea of what he would be owed if Burman cans him after this season. But it may not be as bad as I initially thought.

Sawvel did have some market as a defensive coordinator .I doubt it was any thing near what he gets a head coach but I would curious to know how much Houston ended up paying Giles as that is probably what Sawvel could have gotten as an assistant.

Biggest mistake in it all, maybe the fact we allow (or the BOT / Prez allow) Burman to do anymore hiring and firing. IMO, that fucker has done enough damage (or not enough work that we are damaged), and it needs to stop. NOW.

I think his is guaranteed compensation.

On the other hand look at the Div I stats. The Pokes could be record setters. They are on track to being the worst or near worst in Div I (133 schools) in such items as yds rushing, points/game, interceptions, etc.

Lazy lazy lazy Burman. Should have been a 1 year and extended if shows promise.

This is unreal. Burman would have been fired at a private sector job.

Does anyone know how to petition the Board of Directors at the University for the immediate removal of Burman for incompetency in his current position? This is insanity!! How does someone with this bad of a track record keep their job? If the Wyoming legislature was sooooo interested in oversight of the University, why is this guy still here?

I watched Sawvel's video about "a lot of A$$E$ being up there" and a "lot of A$$E$ being on the field" and shared it with another UW alum and Pokes fan. Neither he nor I could believe a coach would talk like that. He sounded literally absurd like something was wrong with him. I cannot believe he isn't being called out for it (not the words he used but the utter absurdity of his statement). I just cannot imagine this guy turning around a truck much less a Division 1 program.

I thought it was odd terminology too. I guess I figured it was some new slang that I just was not familiar with. He seemed to be using it to mean "big tough guys"?

What was more concerning to me was the fact that he was talking about how those "asses" belonged to the ASU and BYU defensive players. Like it was some sort of excuse for our terrible offense because the opposing defense had "asses" out there.

He did not seem to think Idaho had as many "asses" on defense, but he neglected to offer up a reason for why we only scored 13 points on them.

On the team's loss to BYU. "We didn’t do the things we needed to do to win the game," Sawvel said. "I didn’t want to lose to BYU. I wanted that game more than anyone in the state."

Really? It didn’t look like it “coach”. I’m tired of the gaslighting.

I didn't watch him. What was the context? Actually, I don't care anymore. Forget I asked. I have no interest in what he, TB, UW or the MW commish say. I want to see what they do...and I'm not expecting anything.
