Police don't pick and choose which laws they enforce. Why not level the blame at the kids for being idiots? The last thing we want is a Tallahassee PD situation with Jameis Winston.
It seems like the kids did do something kinda stupid, but police can pick and choose what laws they want to enforce. They do it all the time. Here in SF they turn a blind eye to people smoking joints and bowls on the street because they have real shit to deal with. Its common knowledge among the people as well. Fuck its hard to find police when you really need them here in this town when the real shit goes down. You can't tell me that in Wyoming cops don't go after stuff like this just because they're bored because I know they do. I've lived it and seen it for 20 odd years. Drunk drivers yes please get them off the streets, people looking to do harm, destroying others property, and stealing yes please go get em. Bunch of 20 year old's blazed outta their minds listening to music looking to go to Wendy's for burgers while feeling good...is this really our biggest threat on the night? Just saying....I don't agree with all laws and do think others should be looking to be enforced more severely. It's one thing to go smoke weed in front of the general public in broad daylight and another to try to sneak a bowl with your homeys away from big crowds. Winston was looking at assault charges...ASSAULT, stealing, and shooting squirrels on campus with a bb gun??? Well that's a totally different type of behavior if you ask me.

Other laws that get enforced differently. Speeding. Is 5 over too much or is that sorta the new legal limit? What about you running that red light barely? Is that a major deal or should we let that one slide this time? Should I let this of age sorta drunk guy get home safely with his friends help or throw him in the slammer for the night???

This. There are SO MANY cops in Laramie. UWPD. LPD. Sheriff. WHP. The list goes on and on. Dozens of bored bullies who are looking for someone to bust. I been to places where there isn't a huge PD presence and it typically is shit (I'm looking at you Albuquerque). Laramie is on the other side of the spectrum. The cops here bust drunk drivers, kids smoking weed and give bogus speeding tickets. Heaven forbid you get you bike stolen or your house vandalized because they sure as hell ain't solving that crime.
I can honestly attest two these two facts. We threw a house part a couple of weeks ago that was fairly mild and the cops came and shut it down before 11. Not only did they shut it down at 11, they came back an hour later when maybe a total of 10 people were left and no music was playing. The funny thing is, the same night there was a party two blocks from UW PD station that never got hit. Good job guys. It is also funny you mention the bike being stolen because my roommates got stolen of the porch and they managed to find that. Didn't give any details but they did find a single bike.

I lived in the tree area for a couple of years. During that time I had my car vandalized twice (it was a whole neighborhood thing) and had my bike stolen off the porch. Filed a report every time. I found the bike myself 2 years later locked up on campus all beat the hell. Never heard back once from the popo.

Most cops go for the low hanging fruit. If there's likely going to be trouble, and it's not a violent situation, they may hold back. On the other hand, they have to "make their numbers", so if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time (like you spit on the sidewalk at the end of the month, and a cop saw you) you could get nailed.

We're missing a marketing opportunity here in the midst of all this rampant speculation and gossip. Why not welcome the suspended players back with open arms and a bit of rebranding, play on their names a bit - ...the Dalton Gang, or the James Gang rides again. We could play some select Eagles songs (Desperado reference for those who are too young) for the Dalton Gang, or maybe some Joe Walsh for the James Gang (band by the same name before he went to the Eagles) during player intro's...we've already got the wild bunch for a cheer section.

So the Dalton's rode in Kansas; we could challenge the Jayhawks or maybe Missouri - serious upgrade to our OOC schedule...
Good lord folks we could have a hell of a lot of fun riffing with this.

Only mildly serious here, but it's a hell of a lot better than getting your knickers in a twist about who did what and what their penitence ought to be.

And at the end of the season, maybe cosmic c. Would host the party, bring your own, of course.

Enjoy Vegas, in the meantime.

Actually have a sick ass party crib out here in SF! I could always kick off a party but....how can I hang with a bunch of internet strangers??? Firm believer in imagination though homey so think about what that party would be like in your head (probably better in your mind anyway). It'd be a dope ass one on a rooftop! I would have actual Pokes fans to talk Pokes with though...it would be interesting I'm sure. Clearly we've already missed the best time to throw it, a year late in a few days.

Or just surprise me with an insane run through the MWC tourney this year. Party TimE! I think Dalton off is the worst part. He might be our best big??? We don't really know. Don't like James being off but he was struggling. Marshall might as well be Averbuck I guess.
Why can't our redshirts go get high then put up a 1000 shots at the AA. I don't see a problem with this. I bet it'd feel fucking awesome!

I haven't had the opportunity to follow bball much this year, but if, and stress IF, this is any sort of criminal activity (mip, drugs, whatever), thank goodness the 8 million budget was already approved.

Can you imagine the #$#%%@$ out of the opponents of the budget if this were headlines during the days leading up to the budget battle?

Oh, there were already a handful of people bitching about this exact thing when the news was posted on the Star Tribune Facebook post.

"How dare they waste my tax dollars, they should lose the scholarship that we paid for and be kicked out of school"...so on and so forth.

At which point I politely informed them that they are morons and their tax dollars aren't going to basketball scholarships.

Plus it was pot......legal just 30 miles away. Pot really isn't a drug (unless you look at the positive aspects), but is illegal in the great state of Wyoming. And, the players are dealing with the consequences for their actions.

Do you know this for fact?

Apparently nobody pays attention to what I post.

Am I the only one in the world who doesn't smoke pot? It sure feels like it sometimes.
+1. Some people in this thread seem to be downgrading this since they personally feel weed should be legal or because it is legal in a players home state. That does not matter in this situation. A. Weed is illegal in Wyoming. B. These players signed codes of conduct and willingly and knowingly violated both the NCAA code of conduct and University of Wyoming Rules. That kind of decision making is selfish and not acceptable regardless of personal views on the legality of weed.

I won't jump into the debate about if it should be legal, but it is still illegal at the federal level. In a sense, Obama allows state legalization by instructing federal agencies to ignore it despite federal law. Will the next president do the same or will the next administration enforce federal law?

I have no idea and haven't seen it asked of any of the candidates.

That's an excellent question.
