Dalton, James, Marshall, Moemeka, Conway suspended

Just looking at the University of Wyoming Police Department Activity Report (you can find it here:
http://www.uwyo.edu/uwpd/dar/2016/march.html), it looks like 5 students on March 3 were cited for Use of a Controlled Substance. Not saying these are the same 5 students who were suspended from the team (no names were listed on the report), but the math sure adds up.

16-0214 3/3/2016 - Time 23:39 Five students cited for Use of Controlled Substance. Reporting Officers - A. Cowardin, M. Vessely, M. Doherty Address - 2630 Lodgepole Ln #720 Drugs

Has anyone noticed that, with the exception of Jordan Naughton, every scholarship player who was new to the program got suspended. Also, none of the previous letter winners who are still with the program were suspended.

With Sam Averbuck's offer to burn his redshirt, I had to look him up and it looks like he actually has a legitimate background for a D-1 basketball player with a year of prep-school included. He is also a 6'-4" guard and you can't coach height.

5 separate arrests for weed - for multiple offenders (from just the UWPD) in 5 days. We better hope good 'ol fucker Wyoming doesn't ever legalize it, the state would lose more revenue than the downturn in oil and gas.

Ain't that right. Damn half that report was pure fun patrol crackdown. Players must've been hot boxing a car or something. Looks kinda like the case to me. If it is I'd say no way in hell they should be booted off the team, lessoned learned. Smash vape rips in your friend's house basement on the late night, way, wwwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy, away from campus.   Still that spot is like that last place I'd have smoked weed at in Laramie :brick:
Those campus police have nothing better to do then ring up the dollar bills on kids being kids. Go after those stalkers, suspicious characters, vandals, and brawlers more please. You just took our chance of a MWC run away, thanks :thumb:
Meanwhile somewhere across the UW campus......................................................

Police don't pick and choose which laws they enforce. Why not level the blame at the kids for being idiots? The last thing we want is a Tallahassee PD situation with Jameis Winston.

It seems like the kids did do something kinda stupid, but police can pick and choose what laws they want to enforce. They do it all the time. Here in SF they turn a blind eye to people smoking joints and bowls on the street because they have real shit to deal with. Its common knowledge among the people as well. Fuck its hard to find police when you really need them here in this town when the real shit goes down. You can't tell me that in Wyoming cops don't go after stuff like this just because they're bored because I know they do. I've lived it and seen it for 20 odd years. Drunk drivers yes please get them off the streets, people looking to do harm, destroying others property, and stealing yes please go get em. Bunch of 20 year old's blazed outta their minds listening to music looking to go to Wendy's for burgers while feeling good...is this really our biggest threat on the night? Just saying....I don't agree with all laws and do think others should be looking to be enforced more severely. It's one thing to go smoke weed in front of the general public in broad daylight and another to try to sneak a bowl with your homeys away from big crowds. Winston was looking at assault charges...ASSAULT, stealing, and shooting squirrels on campus with a bb gun??? Well that's a totally different type of behavior if you ask me.

Other laws that get enforced differently. Speeding. Is 5 over too much or is that sorta the new legal limit? What about you running that red light barely? Is that a major deal or should we let that one slide this time? Should I let this of age sorta drunk guy get home safely with his friends help or throw him in the slammer for the night???

This. There are SO MANY cops in Laramie. UWPD. LPD. Sheriff. WHP. The list goes on and on. Dozens of bored bullies who are looking for someone to bust. I been to places where there isn't a huge PD presence and it typically is shit (I'm looking at you Albuquerque). Laramie is on the other side of the spectrum. The cops here bust drunk drivers, kids smoking weed and give bogus speeding tickets. Heaven forbid you get you bike stolen or your house vandalized because they sure as hell ain't solving that crime.

+1. Too many cops making too much money for doing nothing. Throw firefighters in there, too.

While I was In Laramie, I was walking home drunk with two buddies when a cop drove down the street. My buddies ran and then I ran for a minute and then came out and talked to the cop. He asked if I had been drinking and I told him that I had. He told me to go home. My buddies didn't get home for 3 hours. I always thought it was pretty cool of him since we were only two blocks from dorms.

Weed gets such a bad wrap too, but people don't even know what it's like to smoke it without having the mass paranoia of being busted while doing it. Lotta people's bad "trips" on weed in places like Wyoming have to do with the fact that they are constantly looking over their shoulders to be busted, they can't even chill out to feel its positive mediative effects. It makes no sense why laws are so strict to me because drunks have always scared me 1000% more then stoners. Drunks will bust your face open (cough Luke Martinez cough), I don't think stoners can get up to grab the Cheetos without 20 odd minutes of working towards it.

Your hear the amount of edibles they want to felonize? Then someone told them they can pack a lot of THC into that so they're thinking about making 1 oz of edible a felony. Listening to our legislature drives me nuts.

"What you in for?"

"I had more than 1 ounce of a pot brownie"

The country is moving toward decriminalization or outright legalization and here we are.

Yikes! Good 2 know lax! I always liked Wyoming's libertarian streak for social values. It always felt like you do your thing and I'll do mine. Doesn't mean I have to like your thing but I'll respect your right to do it. Wish they could apply that more to this situation but oh well this is getting OT.
Meanwhile in methland................that's Wyoming's real drug problem. Please crack down on that shit.

Luckily that bill didn't get passed so there is no felony for over 3 oz of edibles. I say luckily cuz it sounded like a stupid law not that I partake of any weed. It was especially stupid when they tried to lower it to 1 oz and when it had no factor about the amount of THC in the edible just about the size of the edible. COmmon sense won out for once.

I guess what I'm learning with this thread is good. I needed to remember what I was like in my early 20's in Laramie. A situation like this could've happened to me too on the wrong day. As an old man I'm all high and mighty pissed off but it's probably just my own selfish fan behavior. Still wish the dudes could've been more focused on the tourney somehow, just because they're athletes. I don't think they should boot them from the team for this. Don't know all the details either....that's important ahahah
Speculation :orly: speculation..... :orly: :orly: ...speculation :dope: :off:

I can honestly attest two these two facts. We threw a house part a couple of weeks ago that was fairly mild and the cops came and shut it down before 11. Not only did they shut it down at 11, they came back an hour later when maybe a total of 10 people were left and no music was playing. The funny thing is, the same night there was a party two blocks from UW PD station that never got hit. Good job guys. It is also funny you mention the bike being stolen because my roommates got stolen of the porch and they managed to find that. Didn't give any details but they did find a single bike.
