Dalton, James, Marshall, Moemeka, Conway suspended

I won't jump into the debate about if it should be legal, but it is still illegal at the federal level. In a sense, Obama allows state legalization by instructing federal agencies to ignore it despite federal law. Will the next president do the same or will the next administration enforce federal law?

I have no idea and haven't seen it asked of any of the candidates.
Depends on if the next administration listens to the people or not. Legalization is supported by the majority. Or, will they take money from the lobbyist (alcohol funded) trying everything in their power to continue to make it illegal.

I live in Colorado...and I must admit the legalization has been overwhelmingly positive.

How so? Not arguing your point just wondering on what the positives have been.

I find it highly ironic that the Republican party which is so gung-ho about states rights is simultaneously holier than thou about legalizing pot and has several prominent figures/candidates that have "vowed" to put a stop to it if elected.

We shouldn't get too political on the board, but I think part of the Republican's problem is they have to cater to a base that's all over the map. When you have to pander to heavy conservative social values for votes you go gung-ho against pot among many things. Problem is there are a lot of Republicans that smoke pot but just want more of the fiscally conservative part or others of the of so called "Republican values". Hard to say what'll happen with pot's future in this country. Here's some stoner's guide to what the remaining candidates views on weed are. Feel free to question it's legitimacy and accuracy cause I just found this fast on the net.

https://www.mpp.org/2016-presidential-candidates/#dtrump

Looks like Cruz is the hardest on it for you anti-stoners, while the rest seem to be heading with the direction the country has been going. Wait is Bernie handing me a spliff right now? AHHAAH   Thanks Bern don't mind if I do! Wyoming's future is always 20 years behind on almost everything. Sometimes that's a really really awesome thing and other times its a bummer. Just depends on what type of person you are and it seems like we have all kinds on this board. I don't know if I'll live to see the day it becomes legal in Wyoming.

+1. Some people in this thread seem to be downgrading this since they personally feel weed should be legal or because it is legal in a players home state. That does not matter in this situation. A. Weed is illegal in Wyoming. B. These players signed codes of conduct and willingly and knowingly violated both the NCAA code of conduct and University of Wyoming Rules. That kind of decision making is selfish and not acceptable regardless of personal views on the legality of weed.

You are exactly right. BTW, it is the fans that pay for the scholarships and have every right to bitch - not to mention what it does to the program's image and future recruiting. This hurt our BB program more than you think.

Well you aren't alone but if you someday do try to smoke pot get something like this....https://www.leafly.com/sativa/maui-waui. Maui Waui an uplifting sativa strain that relives stress, leaves you with an uplifting, happy, euphoric, energetic, and relaxing high all at the same time. Doesn't that sound nice? I know you get down a lot brother and the Poke's don't really help most times. Find the right strain of dope and it could change your whole mental world. Now you could take anti depressants too, because that's the legal option..just don't mix those with alcohol.
Not saying I know you at all. I just know your online persona and its bummed out most days. Including today I imagine ahahahaha    rightfully so. Today SUCKED and it sucked in part due to marijuana unfortunately. Wait did I just go full circle in this post??? I need to take a break off here my damn self. It's almost off season though

I find it a bit funny that our crack beat writers from the Casper Star and the old Boomerang got scooped by Kendyll Ferrall....maybe they should use their professional skill sets and actually look for the real story instead of worrying about pissing off the coaching staff and just report that the "staff will have no further comments." What a load of shit gents. You can and should do better.

You know you're small time when the pd cites 1/3 of your team for weed.

You think Johnny PD would cite 1/3 of the Alabama football team for this shit? He'd be thrown off the force !

Yep. This whole thing is stupid, including that ridiculous BI front page.

What I think is ridiculous is the fact our players are taking bong hits and smoking weed . I'm not judging them as people because if you wanna do some weed I don't have a problem with it in most cases as it isn't that big of a deal or the worst drug you can do... but when you are inhaling smoke then you are not going to be in as good as shape as you should be to play basketball, especially at the D1 level.

So basically this tells me none of these guys gives two shits if they become better players or not and could care less about their freakin scholarship. I know we aren't the only school that has this go on but honestly if you don't give a shit about getting better as a basketball player then leave the team and lets find someone that wants to improve.

Getting our asses kicked today doesn't make things any better.

I think the kids need to move to vapes. Much easier on the lungs. I don't like this timing of everything myself, not one damn bit. They even got busted at 12 am???? Come on man, go look for those bike thieves, and who ever ratted em out..... :bad: :finger: :finger: :finger: That article is rough, was that reporter in the room for those 15 bong rips???? AHAHAH damnit. Ya'll know if we had the new Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudemire on this team we'd probably be thinking differently at this sitting in the top 25. Just saying stoners can ball yo! NBA players are probably pot smokers for a large part I bet.

Yeah well I am sure all of them are saying it was a one time deal or the first time they have ever done it but if I had to place a wager on it they have done this mutiple times during the year. Also add to the fact that Trey Washington had to leave the team because of the same deal and it makes me think we have a weed problem on the men's basketball team. Hey as people I am sure they are good kids overall and cool to hang out with and all of that but if you want to play D1 ball on the basketball team you should be waiting to do your smoking at the very least until the season is over.

Speaking of Rasheed Wallace , I was supposed to go to Vegas with some buddies of mine back in the late 90's around 1997 or 98 when Rasheed was with Portland. I ended up not being able to go for some reason but my buddies saw Rasheed at the casino playing craps and they invited him up to their room. Rasheed went up and smoked the reefer with them. Had a huge blunt I guess and they said he was only there for about 10 minutes cause he got paranoid and took off

Damn even Sheed would get paranoid in this anti weed society ahahah   That's a great story! See that's what I'm talking about even a legendary stoner can't get the mediative qualities and not bug out because people don't even know what they're smoking. Different strains do different things to different people. You gotta learn what's right for you and what your packing.

Back to the team though. Kids in their early 20's are gonna smoke reefer. It's just gonna happen to most college kids. It's what makes us not be BYU. Do we have to reel it in a little? Yes now definitely...uggghhh these guys made it so hard for other potheads on the team. Now its got a bad stigma again in Wyoming...great
It could hurt their motivation a little bit too if they do it too much. Still Dalton was the most aggression on the team almost. I mean get em more of what he was smoking right????

For an athlete, it may not be that bad, especially when consumed in other forms besides smoking it.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2486218-banned-but-bountiful-marijuana-coveted-by-nfl-players-as-invaluable-painkiller

http://reason.com/blog/2016/01/04/nfl-players-medical-marijuana-painkiller

It is illegal in Wyoming. But the NCAA also has rules against hydrocodone (pain killer) showing up in a drug test. If you had a prescription for hydrocodone you are probably ok.

One other thing. Could this become a recruiting benefit for CSU?

Not to beat a dead horse, but to echo what has already been said, I am so disappointed in everyone of these guys. I am not saying we would have won the tourney, but their presence was missed yesterday. Our guys were gassed.

This isn't a political anti/pro weed thread
This isn't a power-tripping LPD thread
This isn't about the Branding Iron outing these guys and it "is ok" at other schools

It was f%&(^*&ing selfish by these players. I have said before that there are some LEGAL things I can't even do on the clock or I am fired. WTF are these guys thinking? You are on the clock you entitled generation. You are working for the UW Basketball team. Smoke your shi all you want after March, but from Nov-March, you belong to the University Athletics team, and even to an extent, the tax-paying citizens of the state.

People in the state are pissed off at the funding coming to sports programs. With selfish crap like this, can you blame them?

This is non one's fault but the players. Smoke weed all you want in two weeks, but you screwed the team this year. I realize guys get second chances, but I am so tired of UW sports being mired with bullshi behavior by athletes. Time to grow up and act like a responsible adult.

I think this is going to be an eye opener for James, Dalton, Moemeka, and Conway. This will light the appropriate fire (not the bong) under their collective asses. I think Marshall is a lost cause at this point unfortunately, and he certainly isn't going to be an impact player next year regardless (based on this season's showing, playing time, etc). It is laughable though, for anyone here (or any UW fan) to believe that there are only 6 players on UW hoops who smoked weed this season.

That said, I have several opinions and arguments about weed - but it doesn't belong here. I will leave you all with this...folks that use aren't the ones filling up emergency rooms after beating the shit out of each other.

I sure hope this is an eye opener for these guys. I think being the front page of the branding iron is more embarrassing than being arrested and fined $750 for the incident. Hopefully this will teach them along with parental reinforcement that they shouldn't be doing this shit, especially in season. But I know I'm asking a lot of guys.
