Coaches Presser 10/12

Sims has to feel he wasted his time rehabbing to come back from injury. I wonder - if Sims got 27 carries in a game, how many yards does he get? I’m guessing it is more than 92.

But rather than give a single QB that many carries, why not at least break it up between QBs?

I don't think UW had much over $1M for NIL so my guess he was around $250K but really here nor there because I doubt Sims or Drube are getting any NIL
I think I saw UW’s total football NIL was estimated to be about $2 million this year.

Most websites that project individual player’s NIL value put Hughes NIL value between $150-300k. If we truly paid $800k, then we probably overpaid significantly for him.

Where are you getting that from?

According to this article - Wyoming is apparently attempting to budget $5 million to football NIL.

I think the $800k is a confused number - and maybe I even stated it on this forum. Here is what I have learned. UW is paying Hughes somewhere in the $100-$300k realm. After he signed with us, CSU came forward with an offer of $800k - but he had already inked his deal with UW for the season. My guess is that he is getting $250k. Which is way too much - but a heck of a lot better than $800k.

There had to be a contract in place for him not to accept CSU's offer. Loyalty will only get you a lot but I doubt it would be worth $500k to $700k to second or third tier QB in the portal. I would love to see the actual contract that is being used by teams.

Your information appears correct!

I tracked down the UW BOT public session report from March 2026. On page 74, the report states that they are currently (as of March 2026) paying $2 million for football in NIL but intend to raise the figure to $4-$5 million.

That might be a signed deal that I would have advised him to breach if these facts are correct.

Presumably, Wyoming's deal would have had a liquidated damages provision for breach (i.e. if you breach the contract, you pay this amount of money...basically the same thing as a coach buying out of their agreement). Liquidated damages provisions typically are not going to be upheld if they exceed the value of the contract. So if he signed a $250,000 deal with Wyoming and if CSU offered him $800,000...

He might have been wise to breach the Wyoming deal and pay Wyoming a max of $250,000 and he still makes more by getting $550,000 net at CSU.

Accordingly, those numbers seem really suspect to me. It would be crazy not to take the $800K deal even if he already signed with Wyoming.

Even a contract in place would not explain rejecting an offer for more than 3 times the amount. Accordingly, I am very suspicious of these reports that Wyoming is paying between $100-$300K and CSU subsequently offered $800K. Every person is taking the CSU deal at that point.

maybe him and taylor really are in bed together then. because if that's true then he would be dumb to not take their offer (why the hell are either program offering 1/10th of their NIL budget to a QB like him anyways?
