Circle Jerk on the UNI boards

Ever been to Cedar Falls, IA, there's my point, nothing much going on, ground's too hard to go start plowing, so they got this to look foward too. I'm not overlooking them but this is gonna be yet another grind it out, nail biting game for sure

I've actually been there. It reminds me a lot of Laramie, to be honest. Pretty cool little college town.

I'm pretty excited to play these guys. They're very good, but I think we're going to be a tougher matchup than many (ESPN, etc.) are giving us credit for. Most of their fans on the UNI board seem pretty level headed. They're nervous that their great season could end in a one and done, and they should be.

Whoever posted the analysis above about how these guys shoot almost as well from 3 as Boise State makes me happy. To be honest, we have done better defensively against the teams that are supposed to be great from 3 than the teams that aren't supposed to be great from 3. Considering we went 6-1 against CSU, Boise State, and Utah State, I like our chances against a team whose strength is the 3-ball. Not to mention, they're coming into the tournament after a 2-week break as an unexperienced favorite. I'm confident that they're going to feel more pressure to win than Wyoming will. It may take them a while to settle in early, and we need to kick some ass in the first 10 minutes.

This may also be a game where we let the boys eat a little more on the offensive boards. We have better athletes than these guys, and UNI really doesn't rebound very well. Nance, Cooke, Hankerson, and Adams are all very good on the boards for their positions.

It's bigger than Laramie, and that's without including Waterloo's population, which is right next door. They don't have a Denver 100 miles away, though. 220 miles from MSP and 275 miles from Chicago.

I just looked at the UNI board and what is funny is that a lot of them are saying we are trying to say we are superior? I haven't noticed much of that . I haven't seen anyone here say we will win for sure or blow them out. Just that it will be a close game.

BUT then you read their board more and they are the ones talking about blowing us out and their guards are superior and Nance isn't as good as Tuttle and Tuttle is the 2nd coming of JC. They have the best defense in the country, etc, etc .... lol

They act like they are a tradition rich basketball school but this is only their 7th time ever in the NCAA tournament.

I guess that is what you get with FCS type schools though the whole "little man's disease"

Well the good news is the teams will play on Friday and one team will win and one team will lose and then everyone will move on with their lives .

Pot meet kettle, he's a pretty nice fellow.

This is just my personal prospective, I won't speak to what other Panther fans feel, but we're little brother in our own state to Iowa and Iowa St. We aren't about to let some school from a non power conference tell us our conference blows when we routinely prove we have what it takes to not only play with but beat the power conference schools.

Just a few examples:

2004: Defeated Iowa St. (99-82), NCAA Qualifier

2005: Defeated Iowa (67-63), Defeated LSU in Baton Rouge (54-50), NCAA Qualifier

2006: Defeated Iowa St. (70-57), Defeated Iowa in Iowa City (57-55)

2007: Defeated Iowa St. in Ames (61-48)

2008: Defeated Auburn on a Neutral floor (67-61)

2009: Defeated Wyoming (72-54), Defeated Boston College on a neutral floor (81-69), Defeated Iowa St. in Ames (63-60), Defeated Iowa (67-50),

NCAA Tournament: we beat UNLV from the beloved MWC (I'm not sure how we did it, it's just a brutal conference to play in) Then we went on to beat the top overall Seed Kansas in Oklahoma City. (For those doing the math at home it's a Lawrence, KS is a tad bit closer to Oklahoma City than Cedar Falls, IA, similar to how Laramie is just a tad closer to Seattle than Cedar Falls.), Lost by 7 to Michigan St. in the Sweet 16.

* Note many in Iowa consider this team more well rounded than the 2009 team.

I could go on and on and on all the way up to the present.

It's not that we don't respect you, it's that you don't respect us.

It's not that we don't respect you, it's that you don't respect us.

So what your saying is your rich Basketball history of 3-6 in tournament play is deserving of us to respect you, where Wyomings Basketball history of 9-19 doesn't deserve your respect?

Listing 2004 - 2009 wins means absolutely NOTHING to this years Basketball team. Hell I could go on about our glory days but they also mean nothing to this years team. You played a 4-2 schedule against this years tournament teams and we have played 4-3.

Respect is a two way street, both fan bases have the same fans that will shit talk and assume they are the top school. That is why College Athletics is so much fun but you don't get respect without giving it and most of the fans on this board respect what your team has done we just feel if you played in the MWC you wouldn't be 30-3.

Talk about Pot meeting Kettle.

I don't think anyone here is disrespecting UNI, aside from the one thread title about how you are a paper tiger, most posters here have been pretty complimentary, including that thread, and personally I would love to have the kind of success you guys have had fairly recently.

I do think though most Wyoming fans are pretty happy with the draw, all things considered. You are no doubt a great team and it will require our A game to beat you but, you're still Northern Iowa, 3rd fiddle in your state, and most teams in the country would probably rather play you than someone else in the 4-5 range like say, North Carolina, with top-level talent. You've had some success recently but ultimately, your sweet sixteen run in 09-10 is as relevant to Friday's game as Wyoming's in 1987. None of your current roster has been there save for the coach.

It's the NCAA tournament, we all believe our team somehow has a chance, (unless you're playing Kentucky), otherwise we wouldn't be here.

How hypocritical for Northern Iowa to look down their noses at anyone  Seems like they should have a little more respect for the role of little-known underdog to whom no one gives a second thought. Without embracing the role of underdog and that lucky shot from their gun-slinging Arab no one would have heard of them. Oh, and you are a big fish in an even smaller pond than Wyoming's.

To the person on that board who thinks our bout with mono has been overstated, Nance came back a lot sooner than he probably should have. And it showed in his first two games back (averaged only 9 ppg/8.5 rpg), both losses. Since then, we've won 3 of 4, and Nance is averaging 17.8 ppg/7 rpg.

I actually watch sports very closely and college hoops very closely and most years the MVC is pretty tough and one of the better conferences, especially when Creighton was still in the MVC.

N. Iowa has had good teams in the past as well as S. Illinois , Missouri St. , Indiana St., Evansville and of course Wichita St. but this year outside of N. Iowa and Wichita the MVC is pretty weak. Illinois St. was okay but Utah St.(another MWC team) beat Illinois St. in Normal, Illinois. So can't really say it had a lot of depth this year. I'm not saying it blows but top to bottom is isn't close to a lot of years in strength.

I don't think anyone on this board thinks we are going to blow you guys out or anyone will say we will win the game for sure but your board seems to think you guys got this in the bag easy. That is fine , maybe you guys will blow us out.
I guess we will find out on Friday cause the good thing is the teams get to play. If we lose I will root for N. Iowa against most other teams except for (MWC teams). I like the way Jacobson runs his program. Very classy coach and a very good coach. :thumb:

I love it when guys come on here bitching about a lack of respect and then give their storied history. Here's a few tidbits for you Codyashi:

Wyoming has more National Championships than all of the teams in Iowa combined.

UNLV has more National Championships than all of the teams in Iowa combined.

UNI, as of February, was averaging 4,656 fans at their home games (for a team that went 30-3 on the year, and in an area with a population of 128,000). Wyoming had more fans than that travel to Las Vegas for the MWC tournament.

Your "arena" seats 7,018 people. Really? And with that many people nearby, and a team with a 30-3 record, you can't sell it out every night? Laramie has a population of around 32,000 and we averaged 6,310, and we were disappointed with that.

I could go on and on, but I won't.

I respect your coach and I think you have a good team. Hell, you might have a great team. That's why they leave things like this up to the players instead of the fans. If Wyoming loses, guess what, nobody gives a shit because we weren't supposed to win anyway. However, if Wyoming wins, you will spend the next ten years trying to climb back up the mountain because everyone will remember you being seeded way too high in 2015, and losing to the lowly Cowboys. Here's to an injury free, great basketball game. Enjoy the ride. We are!!

Hey everyone--I'm new to the Wyonation board. I have close family living in Jackson, and visit them as often as I can. Love the Tetons! First of all, best of luck to your team.

However--maybe I'm reading out of context, but are you talking about National Men's Basketball Championships? If so, it was the WWII era, so I guess that still counts...just seems overstated. I just hope you don't mean all sports combined, considering the state of Iowa has won our fair share of NCAA Wrestling titles.

And all the chatter about message boards back and forth, I think we can all agree that any fan base (these two included) have a select few who talk the talk a little more than needed. I think it'll be a great game between two similar teams. I know Coach Jake has great respect for your program, and I can tell the majority of your fans feel the same way about UNI.

I wish I was in Seattle--unfortunately I'll be in Washington (DC that is) for a work trip. I'll echo the sentiments of an injury-free, hard-fought game!

Wyo has 2 basketball National Championships.
1934-Helms
1943-NCAA Tournament

Wyoming has the inventor of the jump shot in Kenny Sailors. 3x All-American, NCAA Tourney MVP, played several years in the ABA/NBA.

Jesus that board is hot mess of ass grab and jibber jabber. They lost all credibility when the one moron said their team was far and away better in all areas than San Diego State and that post about we have no one who can dunk over people. What a bunch of dopes.
