Wyoming's turnaround headed by Josh Allen, the can't-miss quarterback everyone missed (trib.com)

Many in Firebaugh believed Allen would end up at nearby Fresno State, but the Bulldogs said they were looking for a bigger quarterback. As a three-sport athlete, Allen spent more time on the field than in the weight room, but Magnusson knew that once he grew into his body, Allen would be something special.

"He was doing things with a 6-foot-3, 180-pound body that if he ever gets to 220, he’s going to be the most dangerous QB on the planet," Magnusson said. "And I’m sure they thought I was trying to sell them a car, but I’m not that guy. I’m a Christian guy. I wasn’t trying to sell them anything. I was telling them what I actually believed he could do."

Know the foe: UNLV’s Lotulelei among Mountain West’s best defenders (WyoSports.net)

When talking about UNLV’s defense, Lotulelei was the first name Bohl mentioned.

“He’s good at what he’s doing,” Bohl said. “The defensive line is playing well in front of him, but he’s a good player. He flies around, has good quickness and good vision.”

“He’s got great instincts, which is something you have to have to be a great defensive player,” Sanchez said. “He’s a quick-twitch type of guy who is athletic in space. He won’t be done playing when this season ends.”

Three keys to the game: Wyoming vs. Nevada (WyoSports.net)

1. COMPLETE THE GAME

Wyoming has done a lot right during its five-game winning streak, but despite the wins, there have been lulls in its play at times. The Cowboys need to start strong, but also play well for four quarters. That may mean a close game, but it’s time for UW to play well from start to finish.

Wyoming comes up snake eyes in Vegas (WyoSports.net)

“A team should never score 69 points on you, I don’t care how many overtimes you play,” UW senior middle linebacker and team captain Lucas Wacha said.

Wyoming notebook: Cowboys' Gentry comes up huge in loss (WyoSports.net)

“But when you look at it, it’s like it never happened because we lost,” said Allen, who completed four passes on the drive.

Well, Gentry just may have upped his stock a bit. Never hurts to catch the ball no matter how tough of a catch it is and then have two of them showing up on the top 10!

Five amazing stats from a crazy Week 11 - USA Today via MSN

135 — It seems fitting that in the same weekend that the college basketball regular season tipped off, a locale best known for its hoops program produced the day’s football result that most resembled a basketball score. UNLV and Wyoming combined for 135 points in a three-overtime track meet, as the Rebels snapped the Cowboys’ five-game winning streak with a 69-66 victory. QB Kurt Palandech did most of the damage for UNLV with 252 yards passing and three TDs with another score and 158 yards on the ground

Scouting report: Aztecs at Wyoming (San Diego Union-Tribune)

The Aztecs opened as 10-point favorites. Wyoming leads the all-time series 18-17, though SDSU has won three of the last four, including two straight at War Memorial Stadium (48-38 in 2010 and 42-28 in ’12). SDSU beat the Cowboys last year at home, 38-3.

COLUMN: Wyoming eager to move past UNLV loss (WyoSports.net)

What happened to the University of Wyoming football team on Saturday wasn’t expected, nor was it handled well by those who follow the team.

The meltdown on the field in a 69-66 triple-overtime loss at UNLV stopped what had become a title wave of positive emotion and energy for the entire program.

Wyoming looks for fresh start against No. 24 San Diego State (WyoSports.net)

“I need to take responsibility for that as a head football coach,” Bohl said. “I don’t think we had the snap that we needed to, and we’re looking at what we need to do to be fresh at kickoff this week.”

Comparative Scores Aren’t Always Reliable (goaztecs731.blogspot.com)

Now look at Wyo’s game against UNLV the other day. The Cowboys lost that one, 69-66 in three OTs, just one point short of the all-time FBS scoring record.

So, an easy win for the Aztecs, right? No way. Betting lines favor us by about 8, but this game may well be closer. We are playing in Laramie. The elevation is 7,220 feet, as they are quick to remind you with a big message on the upper deck opposite the visitors’ bench. (OK, Rocky says elevation not a big factor in football, just basketball with more constant action.) And Wyo has been surprisingly good this season. They were 5-0 in the MW before that UNLV game, including an impressive 30-28 upset win over Boise State. They are averaging 44 points a game.

Wyoming’s Hill, San Diego State’s Pumphrey to showcase skills Saturday (WyoSports.net)

“I watch him play, and I always enjoy it,” Hill said of Pumphrey. “He’s explosive and exciting. He has a plethora of moves he uses, and has a surprisingly good stiff-arm for his size.

“He always keeps his legs moving. He runs like he’s 6-2, 220. I really respect that.”
