I love our conference. We always have Sweet 16 threats. We need to get there and beyond. New Mexico seems to be built for a deep run every now and then, but they always lose in the first round. I hate to say it, but Eustachy's first CSU team had Final Four written all over it. If they didn't hit the Louisville buzz saw in the 2nd round, they may have gotten there. Miles built that team like Shyatt is building ours.

Just saying, most people involved in college basketball do not consider the MW to be a mid major. I know the MW does not consider itself a mid major. We don't take part in the bracket buster challenge(if that is still a thing) because of that. It hurt our conference losing Byu and Utah but we still have plenty of great bball programs with great history. I think this next year could be a good one for the conference. BUt yes the conference does need to step up in the tourney we have been dissapointing there.

As a conference the MWC is tied in rank 9th in NCAA tourney bids. So we're fighting to get into that top 8 out of 32 conferences. Mid major has to be more of 10th-14th or 16th ranked conferences I'm assuming.

Most years we are around 5-6. That's true. However, like in football, it's usually the Power 5, the mid-majors and the low majors (one-bid league).TSpoke said:

And it wasn't only last season, either. The Mountain West was 10th in 13-14 too.
Maybe there should be a second grouping between the P5s and the one-bids. If that's how you want to group it, you're right that they'd be in the higher of the two. But the MWC is not a top-5 league year in and year out.

Are we as good as the acc or B1G? No but are we a mid major? no. Since there isn't an intermediate group we above mid major hence a power conference.

Don't be butthurt that Nodak State strives to be considered midmajor when the MWC is considered major. We didn't make the rules.

One team does not a power conference make. Had Gordon Hayward made that halfcourt shot, would you have considered the Horizon League a Power 5 league? By your standard they would be, since they'd have a national title among them.TSpoke said:

Williams from Gillette would be HUGE for the Pokes next season. Him and Naughton could bang down low and Herndon could be more of a flex which he desperately wants to be. Get him locked up Papa Shy!

I would love to get Williams from Gillette but I don't think we are going to be able to unless he loves being in Wyoming. Shaka Smart was in watching him last week and so was San Diego St. He is attracting a lot of attention now. Will be another Boucher that we don't get most likely.

With Conway's scholly opening up thought I would bump this thread. I don't know what route the staff is going to go but we have two open schollys for this class now. We already have Mueller coming in this summer which I believe he will redshirt this coming season. But what should the staff do? Personally I hope we can find that 5th year guard to come in and add some depth for 16/17 season. We also have the option of saving for the 2017 class, ton of talent we are targeting in that class or possibly rewarding one of the walk on players.
Thanks for the bump. There's no way we reward a walk-on unless A)They contribute on the court and B)They're an upperclassman. I thought Shyatt might've given Bentz a scholly after Hankerson got his revoked before their senior year, but no. I assume most of the high school guys who are MWC caliber players are already signed, so the only route to go would be transfers. Maybe one who's immediately eligible like you mentioned. And maybe a transfer who needs to sit out a year. I really don't want to waste either of these 2 scholarships on a mediocre HS recruit, especially with 2017 looking so promisingpoke_addict said:
