Bummer!!! Was looking forward to him in a B&G uniform!

Don't give up on him yet. He just changed from 2016 commit to 2017 recruit. You still have to like our chances with him.

Not if the pokes go the route of a 5th year senior in the spring. There is an abundance of talent in that next class that may take priority over him. I don't know how that works. Think Shyatt will offer him a scholarship for that class?

I'm not saying he's coming to Wyoming. I just wanted to update people on him. Dontay Bassett is a California boy. I think the Gator offer without Donovan or Shyatt isn't that big of a deal to Dontay. There's a lot of big schools after him. I'll bet the Gators don't get him.
Well you lose that bet. Bassett committed to Florida.

So is it just the kid from Denver 6-6 or so swingman so far as verbals? With no more "open" spots left?
Correct. Hopefully everyone sticks around, but if not I think the coaching staff will sign a transfer that can play right away. We'll only have 1 freshman coming in next year imo

I watched some video of the signee from Denver recently....kid is good. What stood out to me is his offensive game. We've heard about his jump shot, but he is crafty in the paint.

I think this kid will prove to be a solid pickup.

So 13 scholorships?
1 SR
2 JR
6 SO
4 FR

Shyatt has a really good chance at a 6 senior class in 2 years. I know there's going to be unexpected losses, and prob from this years fr or so classes, but it's amazing they've all even made it to campus and still playing. I guess past Christmas or even another couple weeks are some other markers. This years fresh class is huge. What if they went 4 for 4 and all of these guys stick around?

How about a front court of seniors Herndon, Barnes, dalton - juniors noughton, moemeka- and then throwing in Hubter Thompson?

Then seniors Lieberman, Gorski, Washington and throwing in Parker Stewart

2017 recruiting class seems huge if they get 2 or 3 really quality guys, but wouldn't 2018 be a class where you have to get 4-5-6 guys

This is no bullshit...Shyatt is building the type of mid-major program that gets to a Final Four.

MWC isn't really a mid-major.

We're only a mid major in Football. In basketball we don't have to worry about that same media P5 and G5 bullshit thank goodness.

What is it then? Certainly not a high-major. And low-major is reserved for one-bid leagues, which the MWC is not.

I think mid-major is exactly what the MWC is. It isn't a slight. It is what it is.

It is a slight and we are not a mid-major. We are a high major or just a major or at the least a high-ish major. As a conference we have been ranked in the top 3 rpi-wise in the last couple years. LAst year was a very down year for the MW and we were around 10-11. Pretty embarassing. Most years we are around 5-6 ranked conference.

Here is a article from ESPN.com with the mid -major rankings. Notice the first paragraph

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/76865/mid-major-report-power-rankings-10

This is from a couple years ago but was the only one I can find cuz ESPn is hard to navigate and possibly they don't do that ranking any more.
So I'm sure there are a lot of people that consider us a mid-major there are many who don't consider us mid majors(including ESPN). In basketball it isn't just the P5 that are considered major conferences.

It is understandable since last season was your first paying attention to the MWC that you would consider us a mid but that was the worst year we have had in quite a while conference wise.

PS. That last line was not a shot at you. I welcome all and every fan aboard the bus. I just know you haven't been around as long as some of the resto of us so i was giving some historic info.

It's not a slight. I want a basketball program as good as Butler, Gonzaga, or Wichita State. I want a program better than Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Washington State. I don't care where you classify us. The MWC hasn't sniffed an Elite 8 since Utah lost to Kentucky in the NC in 98. If the MWC doesn't send anyone to the Sweet 16 ever, it's not a powerhouse conference. I want more respect than we get, but you have to earn it.

Well we've been a little more down lately then year's past but the MWC has some big time bball reputations in it. Losing Utah hurt us pretty bad. We were a stronger conference with them for sure and would be today as well. However our new conference is still pretty strong hoops wise. Big time respected programs in UNLV/New Mexico/SDSU, very strong new comers in USU/Boise State (as of late), and Fresno State/Nevada have been competitive in the past as well so they could rise again. Air Force has overachieved to crazy levels before which I'lll gladly admit even though I hate them. CSU is pretty much just a shitty program    SJSU

Between SDSU/UNLV/New Mexico I'd say they've been a threat to make sweet 16's for years. Now we might be entering that kind of territory soon. This is as a conference too. Gonzaga's conference doesn't have another sweet 16 potential program (you hear that BYU that's right fuck you). Wichita State's conference does though including Wichita State which have been crushing lately. Butler is in a power conference. So the MWC is historically a just outside the power conference level, we're a little like Clint Eastwood's badass 60's cowboy

A conference level with no name....people are still scared to fuck with us. Hence the fear of the DOME OF DOOOOOOOOMMMMMM....THE PIT......The Thomas & Mack....The Spect...Viejas. These are not easy places to go win a game. Some legendary gyms.

However just did a quick fact check and New Mexico has actually been the most disappointing respected program we have. No sweet 16 since 74??? Damn talk about underachieving. Their fanbase must be pulling their hair out a lot.
