Fire Sawvel

If pay was more reasonable and better contract we wouldn't be stuck with this hire for very long which at least gives us a chance. I don't think we're necessarily on different pages.

Other than chief investment officers for the treasure and retirement board, PBJ is the highest paid state employee followed by a few other coaches, then Burman, then the UW prez and the investment officers.
Agreed..not really on different pages...if we are, they at least don't contradict.

When it gets into the world of contracts and how college sports money is accounted for...it's not a world that makes sense to the layperson (including myself). These people make crazy money compared to the average Joe whether they win or lose. I just don't feel confident I would know enough to say that this or that contract is good or bad....I do feel confident criticizing competitive outcomes though.

Question for those that know...are guarantees not common in football coaching contracts? I'm pretty sure they are...if that is the case, how do coaches get fired all the time before their contract is up? Do donors just step in and pony up? If that is the case...then considering Wyoming's economic position, we should probably not offer those types of contracts. The argument against this is that then a "serious" coaching candidate would not consider coming to Wyoming since it would not be guaranteed.

Until Bohl’s contract was renegotiated, I believe the buyout was typically just a lower base salary and most of the compensation was not guaranteed. If I recall correctly, that was consistent for Glenn’s and DC’s contracts. When Bohl’s contract was renegotiated, I believe the guaranteed money was significantly increased. This makes sense because when a coach establishes their value and ability to produce consistent results, the risk is typically reduced from a University standpoint and the coach will have increased leverage to request the increase in guaranteed dollars.

I am not aware of Wyoming ever bringing in a new coach and guaranteeing the percentage of compensation that they seem to be guaranteeing to Sawvel. What troubles me is that guarantee is for a stunning 5 years which I don’t believe is typical for someone being hired by a MWC team and who has never been an FBS head coach. It puts Wyoming in a tough spot financially to bring in a new staff absent firing for cause.

I don't think I've ever said this, but I think Burman should move on. After the Allen Edwards and Linder fiasco (I think Shyatt saved him from Shroyer debacle) and now Jay Sawvel, it's probably time to bring in new blood. I think we've all agreed that Jay will be here for another 2 years before anything can happen due to financial restraints. Let a new AD come in with fresh perspective. If Sundance turns it around and Jay manages to correct this shit show, great. They should keep their jobs. If not, the new AD can hire the next coaches.

Between the contract and the hire, none of this made sense even for Burman.

He destroyed the bball program and is on track to do the same to football. If PBJ is on the sidelines next year and year after, we're half a decade or more before having a chance to break the cycle.it starts with replacing Burman.

He’s an absolute bum. Just a dumb idiot of a person. Just listening to him speak is painful and you can tell he’s a meat head.

Fire Burman!!!!

With a real coaching search, one could only wonder if we could have landed Curt Cignetti, or anyone else with HC experience and track record of success.
