WYOMING v. NEVADA

The offense was moving the ball fairly well until they got the big lead in the second half. I don't understand the dribble out the shot clock and take a bad three mentality of Shyatt. Shyatt would be an elite coach if he would stop playing scared every time he gets a lead. His style is a big part of why his teams compete with just about anybody, but it's also a big part of why just about anybody competes with his teams.

What do we have though? Nevada's freshman big dominated our sophomores in the paint. That's only going to get worse over the next couple of years.
Shyatt and his staff flat out dropped the ball in recruiting. We have some quality talent, but nowhere near enough to develop into a contender. He has now painted himself into a corner as we lack the talent to compete for the next couple of years and we lack open scholarships to do anything about it.

Well Oliver is the best Freshman I have seen play this year. He looks like the real deal and he will be a load for years to come. So not sure how fair it is to compare our bigs to him. Not many bigs in the comference are gonna compare favorably to him.

I strongly disagree about recruiting. We have been recruiting better each year of the Shyatt regime. The young guys are starting to put it together and I see flashes of their potential. Noughton will be a stud. I'm really starting to like Dalton, he needs to add weight(we've known this since we signed him) but he is really starting to impress me with his rebounding and smart play. I still believe that Herndon will put it all together, I see flashes of lots of talent but he hasn't put it together yet. Will he? Who knows. Barnes I hope can develop into a space eater backup that won't hurt us too much. We'll see if that happens.

Not sure that was any different call on offense from Shyatt at the end or the players just weren't executing the offense and moving the ball as well as they were earlier. But I agree our offense at the end was incredibly frustrating. Need to just keep playing our game. When we are moving the ball around our offense is fun to watch. That play in the first half where trey was in the corner pump faked and drove, kicked it out to the other corner, then moved around the 3 point line back to Trey in the corner for a wide open 3 was pretty.

And I think I finally understand why Marshall hasn't seen the court. It was only 2 minutes but he looked completely lost on both ends of the court. You might say he needs more time but how much time are you willing to let someone that has no idea where they are supposed to be get experience during the heart of the conference season.

Another factor that could have played a major factor in the game was illness/fatigue. Dalton, Lieberman and Naughton and Al I think were all sick prior to the game. That was probably the reason Naughton didn't play much.

And What is the rule on getting a rebound and landing on someone on the ground? That Dalton rebound play at the end sucked. Don't think it should have been travel but is that the right call? Can it be a foul? That doesn't seem right either. Just curious.

Herndon was sick with 103/104 temp before the NMex game and may still be feeling the effects of that.

From what I've read/heard, a few members of the team had flu like symptoms. Dalton was given an IV a few hours before the game. Shyatt didn't want to use it as an excuse, so he didn't.

I don't think it could have been travelling because he was laying on the guy. Don't you have to hit the floor for it to be travelling? Plus the guy rolled into Dalton and should have been a foul on Coleman(?). Refs blew it.

Plus everything that happened was the refs fault for calling that jump ball three seconds too late and letting things escalate. Horrible job. That Oliver is a giant, thug btw and insane.

It was actually the correct call. It is traveling when a player falls to the playing court while holding the ball without maintaining a pivot foot. The only time a foul could be called is if the defender was the one that initiated the contact but in this case he didn't. The defender had been knocked to the floor and was laying stationary so they could have called an offensive foul as much as a defensive foul. The only call that could be made there was traveling. Unfortunate but it was the correct call.
