Wyoming Spring Practice 2014

Just wanted to provide you a quick look inside Spring Ball for all of you that have asked. The double rep thing is tough! It pushes the players to a point where they think they can't go any further and then some more. I think it is particularly hard on the WR corps because of the length of their routes and blocking assignments. Every play is like a 40 yard sprint. Coach Burns, like all of the coaches, demand 100% effort form every player on every rep! The coaches are especially diligent in looking for players who try to take a play off. That is frowned upon greatly. Coach Bohl has set the bar and the players understand the expectations. The new Pro Style offense it proving to be more difficult I think than many had planned on to install. The schemes and concepts are very "next level" and are way above what many think. Finally, "If you stay you will be a champion" will be forever branded on these young men's mind. A task that is proving to be more difficult than any of us can imagine. "GO POKES".
Hope to see Tanner get a little PT for all the hard work he's putting in.

Champions don't take days off. Champions don't take plays off.

Thanks, I am not going to lie it has been a struggle. He said it is the hardest thing he has ever done in his life! He is trying to fight through some nagging injuries but it has been a challenge for sure.

I think DC was so soft with our team. Bringing back "Cowboy Tough" in a major way! This is the kind of stuff that wins close games, something we had a hard time with the past few years, coming up short at the end. I expect that to change.

Wyoming QB Stratton making most of new opportunity

Sam Stratton was a quarterback, just not one the public could see.

Last season, Stratton was a man of many faces. One week, he was Nebraska's Taylor Martinez. The next, he was Air Force's Jaleel Awini or Fresno State's Derek Carr. The Littleton, Colo., native was listed as a wide receiver and holder, but on the practice field he morphed into whatever the Cowboy defense needed him to be.

Is it just me or is this the strangest thought - the practices are closed - but it seems like we get more information out of the staff here than when our last coach had open practices. If these coaches can do anything, its get the players and myself excited.

Notes and Quotes: Bohl looking for more physical line play

"Cowboy Tough" doesn't come overnight.

Wyoming worked heavily on its power running game in Wednesday's practice, and while coach Craig Bohl has seen definite progress he also said that ultimately "we're not where we need to be."

That could also be a testament to the Cowboys' defensive line, which is experienced and features four guys used to playing alongside each other. Wyoming will continue to work this spring towards its end goal, to be able to control both lines of scrimmage and enforce its will on an opponent.

Been thinking that myself.

Cowboys Focus on Power Running Game in Wednesday Morning Practice (UW Athletics Site)

Wyoming's Wednesday morning practice in War Memorial Stadium saw the temperature at 61 degrees when the Cowboy Football team concluded its ninth practice of the Spring. One of the areas that was emphasized on Wednesday was the power running game. Head Coach Craig Bohl wrapped up practice with his normal post-practice meeting with the media.

"We're rocking along," said Bohl. "We worked hard on the power running game today. We're not where we need to be, but we're making progress. That is going to be our stamp on offense (running the football).

Just got this feeling this kid is going to be a monster b-4 his playing days are over at UW
Agree

With him coming in he'll be able to provide depth at a focal point in our new offense. I see him being third on the depth chart at the end of fall camp[/quote]

The chances of Hill seeing the field this year is slim. With Wick and May being the primary backs Stover, Tapscott and Nevermann being the others to back them up. A team usually only travels 3 to 4 deep at Rb. There is a need to redshirt these freshman to bulk up and adjust to life away from home. Unless there are injuries. He may be a year or two away with the other freshman recruits. Anyways Bohl redshirts the majority of freshman players.

Good luck for Tanner, I think that he has a really good future ahead of him. My take is that when players like Tanner get ready for the draft and the NFL later in their careers they will be a lot better prepared than players were under DC. To me, Tanner along with Nico Brown and Trent Sewell are the three top young WR's at Wyoming.

Hill was my favorite commitment by Bohl, and I'm so glad they are keeping him at RB (even though so many here thought he should play S).

Call me crazy, but he reminds me somewhat of Adrian Peterson.

Thank you Mr PCP. As far as his NFL career goes.....well we are just hoping for some time on the field with the Cowboys. ;)

UW Spring Football: Lange finally ready for his shot to play defensive end (WyoSports.net)

If Riley Lange is looking for a nickname, he might try “Pinball.”

That is because he has bounced from position to position since arriving at the University of Wyoming in 2010 to play football.

He is hoping for no more position switches, and to stay healthy, as he enters his senior season.

I'm assuming is related to Riley Reiff former Iowa star and and Detroit first round pick and starter. They're out of Parkston, SD in the SE part of the state. Great wrestlers there, big corn fed kids.

We're getting closer to my neck of the woods...another 170 miles to go. Parkston plays in the smallest 11-man class in SD. Don't know much else about him, but here's a wrestling-focused feature on the kid: http://www.kdlt.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24581&Itemid=58" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Interesting that today's recruiting news came on National Sibling Day lol.

BROTHERLY LOVE

Wyoming TE Krill takes extra steps to ensure successful senior season

No one can push J.D. Krill quite like his brother.

Growing up, Brett and J.D. competed in everything. The sport was arbitrary. If there could be a winner and a loser, then the Krill boys would play, and they'd push each other to the brink.

“We were pretty competitive," J.D. Krill, now a senior tight end at Wyoming, said. "He’s three years older than me, so I always kind of looked up to him as an idol. He taught me a lot. He’s kind of like a father figure to me, when it comes down to it.”
