Wyoming spring football: Kirkegaard, Stratton lead in UW quarterback battle (WyoSports.net)

Craig Bohl hasn’t named a starting quarterback, but now there are two front-runners.

The first-year University of Wyoming football coach said Monday that redshirt senior Colby Kirkegaard and senior Sam Stratton have separated themselves from sophomore Aaron Young and sophomore Tom Thornton.

“The top two guys are going to be Colby and Sam,” Bohl said after UW’s eighth of 15 spring practices. “Aaron is picking up some things. Tom is off a little bit.

(Let's see how far Bohl moves up in the national rankings in the years ahead.)

59. Craig Bohl, Wyoming
Career Record: 104-32 (11 years)

It’s not often a coach jumps from the FCS to FBS ranks and takes the top spot in a conference. However, that’s the case with Bohl, as he ranks as Athlon’s top coach in the Mountain West. In 11 years at North Dakota State, Bohl guided the Bison to 104 victories, including three consecutive FCS Championships.

He is the 3rd highest ranked non bcs coach. But, think he is getting slighted because of the bcs tag.

Even with that he would be the highest ranked Coach Wyoming has ever has from a pre season stand point.

Wyoming cornerbacks coach Richardson funnels energy into his players

With a white visor pulled low over his eyes, all you can see is the smile.

John Richardson wears it like a uniform, the wide grin fading and reappearing like a tide hitting the beach. In front of him, Wyoming's corners flank wide receivers in one-on-one drills, trailing them like shadows, always stalking the football.

More Story: Wyoming coach John Richardson funnels energy to corners

Today, we published a story on the enthusiasm new Wyoming cornerbacks coach John Richardson brings to his position. And like always, there were a few interesting bits from interviews that didn't make the cut.

I hate wasting good material, however, so I'm cleaning off the plate and dumping it into a blog post. Here's more story from Richardson as well as his new Cowboy cornerbacks.

Pokes look to be getting healthier

Wednesday marked the ninth spring practice for the Wyoming football team, and there seemed to be fewer guy wearing red jerseys due to injuries.

All of UW’s receivers who were out or limited on Monday were back on the field: senior Keenan Montgomery, and sophomores Tanner Gentry and Trent Sewell.

With him coming in he'll be able to provide depth at a focal point in our new offense. I see him being third on the depth chart at the end of fall camp

Coach Bohl looking dapper in his new threads.

Just wanted to provide you a quick look inside Spring Ball for all of you that have asked. The double rep thing is tough! It pushes the players to a point where they think they can't go any further and then some more. I think it is particularly hard on the WR corps because of the length of their routes and blocking assignments. Every play is like a 40 yard sprint. Coach Burns, like all of the coaches, demand 100% effort form every player on every rep! The coaches are especially diligent in looking for players who try to take a play off. That is frowned upon greatly. Coach Bohl has set the bar and the players understand the expectations. The new Pro Style offense it proving to be more difficult I think than many had planned on to install. The schemes and concepts are very "next level" and are way above what many think. Finally, "If you stay you will be a champion" will be forever branded on these young men's mind. A task that is proving to be more difficult than any of us can imagine. "GO POKES".
