Young, the early favorite for some, is falling behind.

Capt Kirk and Stratton leading the QB battle? I hope the best for both young men. Stratton has been a leader on the team looking for a position to help his team. Kirk didn't have a good reputation in the previous scheme, can't help but to think he's more adept at a Pro-Style Offense where he isn't running for his life.

Stratton was all state in Colorado and has speed to burn. If he can throw at all, he could be that game manager Bohl is looking for.

I think his problem under DC was his size....he is under 6'.

Yeah, either way, I am skeptical.
I love Stratton. That guys deserves a shot at anything. He has been loyal to UW through it all.

that being said, the lack of QB expereince concerns me...A LOT.

Yep.....JMO, but its on the wishful-thinking side of things to believe that average QB play will be enough for this team to have success in 2014. I can't remember the last time a MW team had success with QBs of Kirkeegard, Stratton, Young, etc. caliber.

That assumption is banking on expecting the defense to be greatly improved too. The O-Line is not a proven commodity either. Wyoming may need to win games by scores of 20-17 and such. Can Wyoming hold opponents to 17? I think its all speculation at this point.....nobody really knows....but there seems to be a ton of assuming. QB does not need to be good, because the run game and defense will be awesome. Okay then.

Not surprised to see Kirkegaard emerge as a favorite. His skill set fits well with what Bohl asks of his QB's. Barring an injury, I'd actually be surprised if Kirk wasn't our starter come Aug 30. I expect a lot of people to be pleasantly surprised with what he will be able to do in a pro-style offense.

That being said, I don't think the most talented QB on the 2014 roster is on campus yet. In fact, I think both Fort and Smith have superior talent at the QB position. Not just superior athleticism, but superior talent. Adjusting to college life and learning the mental side of a collegiate sport are major challenges for incoming freshman athletes. The QB in a pro-style offense really needs a strong understanding of the mental side of football. Based on this, I'd expect Fort and Smith to red-shirt this year with a very interesting QB battle next year...maybe even more interesting than this year.

Sam also mentioned on Twitter about the possibility of a 6th year, too. I love his attitude and leadership on and off the field. It would be great to see him succeed.

SDSU last year. They ended up having to start a walk-on QB due to injury and transfers.

I'm not not expecting much in the wins category this year, and wasn't to begin with. The defense looks to be, if nothing else, straightened out with who will start. Plus the guys we had on roster were built more for the 4-3 defense than the 3-4 (and most of them are more familiar with the 4-3 anyways).

Offense though, that's the big change. The only ones that I thought would have a pretty smooth transition were the RBs and possibly the WRs. And so far, that's proven to be true. With Smith declaring early and Thompson heading to Utah, QB was going to be a big question. But what some people don't seem to realize, is that in Bohl's system, you don't need a Brett Smith caliber QB to move the ball. You need a big and physical o-line and RBs that know how to hit holes hard with recievers that can block well. The QB's job is to not turn the ball over and hit the open guy on play action. Our o-line, even with the zone blocking scheme, was often blown up by as little as 3 man rushes putting far more pressure on the offensive backfield then what most teams should ever have to deal with. Everything begins on the lines, and our o-line right now, is patchwork at best.

If we somehow get to 6 wins this season, with actual improvement on the line play (if nothing else), I'd call this coming season a success. If we fall below it though, but I still see improvement in how the teams plays, I'll still call it a success. I'll give Bohl and company a couple years before demanding a winning season. This season we begin new schemes on boths sides. Next, we lose a ton of experience.

I agree with you on Nick Smith. I liked what I saw on video. He has the attributes Bohl & Vigen like in a QB: Tall, good arm strength, great leadership qualities (by all accounts) and smart. Gotta give these frosh a year to adjust, though, unless they're THAT GOOD.

We knew the staff would be behind the eight-ball somewhat at the QB position with Smith and Thompson leaving. It is what it is, but I like nearly everything I'm hearing from players to coaches at this point in spring ball. Can't build championships overnight, but the players are beginning to see what it takes, obviously.

Wyoming offensive line practicing to finish in fourth quarter

Rafe Kiely can hear it now.

When Wyoming's offense runs onto Jonah Field for the first series of the 2014 season on Aug. 30, the differences will far outnumber the similarities. Fans will witness a straightforward west coast attack, with bulky tight ends attached to the line of scrimmage and a fullback crouching like a parked snow plow, ready to clear the way.

Notes and Quotes: Wyoming's Bohl gives post-scrimmage analysis

Wyoming coach Craig Bohl said Monday that he'll release a preliminary depth chart after the team's second scrimmage on Saturday.

But until then, why not speculate?

Upon reviewing the film of the Cowboys' first scrimmage, Bohl had this to say about the progress of his team and who is currently standing out.
