Why all this speculation about Trey?
Have you guys not seen him be totally turn-over prone in big games?
He take AWFUL shots, and can't dribble against the big boys.
He has NO confidence.
And this isn't one of those situations where you play him until he gets it.

Jack Bentz doesn't turnover the ball that's why he was in against SDSU instead of Washington.

Beaver? Jack Bentz? FFS.

2013-14 Wyo 11 0 57 2 3 0 0 2 2 0 7 9 1 0 5 3 6

That 5 is turnovers. The 57 is total minutes. The 6 is of course points. He bloweth.

Bull.
Look at it this way peachfuzz... Bentz comes in for Riley for a few minutes at a time against a big team or in a close game when Riley needs a break. Gives Riley 1-2 minutes to catch his breath. When he catches his breath he doens't play sloppy defense. When he doesn't play sloppy defense, he doesn't get into foul trouble.

Jack didn't turn the ball over against SDSU, and just did what he was supposed to do for a couple minutes.

Trey Washington? He would have just dribbled off his foot straight into Thames hands. Or, on the off chance that he would have actually not turned it over, you know as well as I do that he would have just shot another AWFUL shitty shot off the back board or airballed it.

Trey is a more talented player, and everyone knows it, but he shits him self against D1 talent more so than Dave Christensen did.

Everyone has seen how bad Trey Washington has been lately. He sucked nuts against Nevada at home. Why the hell would you put him in against the 5th ranked team in the country, AND the only team in the MWC with a better defense than us?

Trey should get some playing time against SJSU, and AFA, and Fresno, maybe even CSU. But until he proves he doesn't get scared of big, legit teams, he is far more of a risk on the floor than the reward.
Meanwhile, Jack Bentz knows the offense, he knows the players, he will just get the ball upcourt for us. That's what we need at times when Grabau needs a rest and Adams isn't on the court.

Trey needs to settle his nerves in big games. I watched him FALL DOWN 4 separate times in the SAME POSSESSION when we played New Mexico at home, as well as turn it over 3 times in the minute and a half he was on the court. Bentz may not be the most talented player on the team, but he knows his role: play a couple of quality minutes to give the starters a breather. He's not going to score or rebound, but he's also not going to have bad turnovers or get burned on defense.

Everyone here knows that Washington is a talented player, but he needs to mature a bit before he sees a lot of minutes. I trust Shyatt's handling of the players. He's done a hell of a job with them thus far, no reason to believe he's screwing up now.

This game is not the gimmee that most think it will be. Brown and Wilson have proven effective with 3's against the Poke defense, and SJ appears good at defending 3's - Riley went 0-6 against them. However the Pokes seem more willing now to mix it up inside, so that might prove the margin. Closer than most think, IMO.

He wants to be the celebrity, the star on the team.
He knows Nance had a decent freshman year. He knows Adams had an awesome freshman year. He wants to have the best freshman year.
He has always been the best player on his team, until this year. Hell, he even played in a national all-star game.

He just tries to make these great plays. But clearly isn't and he knows it. His confidence is gone way down.
But, games against SJSU, Fresno, AFA, and CSU are perfect times to get his confidence up. Games against Boise and USU? Unless he comes on strong in the next few games then don't play him then either.

I think you are being a little too hard on Trey.

YTD, Bentz turns the ball over at a much higher clip than Washington (1 every 11 min, compared to 1 every 16 minutes).

I trust Shyatt and I understand why he felt more comfortable with Bentz in the game against the SDSU full court press and agree with your point that he is simply in there to get the ball up the court in a high stress situation. He's not in there to make plays.

Trey is a quality player who will have a huge impact for this program down the road. He has hit over 40% from beyond the arc (only 30% in MWC play though to your point) and can also break down the defense off the dribble. He doesn't play defense well enough yet to get a lot key minutes in MWC play and learning how to run the show on offense is a steep learning curve. Look at Grabau's freshman year. Similar minutes to Washington, but only 2/13 from 3 and almost no discernible impact on the game.

You base the first line on what exactly?

In terms of best player on the team, that is the case for most D-1 players, although not necessarily the case with Trey (Zach Coleman, who signed with UMass was definitely considered the higher tier prospect and was more recognized in the state and region awards).

On a random tangent, Wyoming actually has quite a few players that don't fit that mold (best player in HS). Cooke and Sellers didn't play HS ball and Hankerson/Granberry played together (not sure who was better per se, Granberry was a year older but Hankerson was a higher level recruit).

We are playing just the kind of game to lose. What's with all the misses rebounds? There's at least 5 we should of had. Next time we get up by 7, we need to put these clowns away

Is it just me- or is this announcer terrible? First of all- there's only 1. Second of all....he is terrible. Not in the sense that he is one sided. He just has an annoying voice and is constantly wrong about a foul or if it's an out of bounds call etc. :twocents:

Love how we aren't defending the 3 at all and they are draining them left and right. Hope this team makes some adjustments and starts playing like they did against SDSU and not how they did against Denver.
