Wyoming players, fans celebrate Mountain West title together

"We came here, and coach [Larry Shyatt] promised we'd be a piece of something bigger," senior forward Larry Nance Jr. said. "If I remember right, that court just about 20 minutes ago was something bigger.

"That's what we're taking back to Wyoming -- all those fans, this trophy, the tournament MVP, and an NCAA Tournament berth."

"We've been so close before and have seen it slip right through our fingertips," said Nance, his eyes red and watering, motioning to the trophy sitting on the table to his left. "To know that this is ours and there's nothing anybody can do to take that away from us, it's everything we imagined and more."

Gagliardi column: Historic wins comes full circle for Cowboys (WyoSports.net)

Shyatt’s vision from four years ago came full circle Saturday. Through hard work, player development, perseverance and maybe even a little luck, he has UW back in the NCAA Tournament. It’s Shyatt’s first invite to the Big Dance in 10 seasons as a head coach.

To see how UW fans converged on Las Vegas and the Thomas & Mack Center for this game showed their intense loyalty for their team and school. Yes, Las Vegas is the destination of choice for Wyomingites, but UW fans came out in full force. And the Cowboys’ three games felt like home games at the Arena-Auditorium.
