CBS College Sports channel is running a two-hour special called "March Madness Bracket Breakdown" with Pete Gillen, Steve Lappas and Jon Rothstein. In the "Stirring the Pot" segment, Gillen also picks WYO to go to the Sweet Sixteen. In fact, the Pokes were getting quite a bit of attention (love) within a 45-minute stretch on the program. This included a live phone interview with Coach Shy.

It looks like they are showing replays of the program at 12:00M (MT) tonight and 2:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Tuesday, if anyone is interested in watching.

Jack Bentz: NCAA thoughts along the way (WyoSports.net)

EDITOR’S NOTE: University of Wyoming senior guard Jack Bentz will provide WyoSports with a daily diary of his thoughts as the Cowboys go through the process of preparing for the NCAA Tournament. Here’s the first installment:

"We cannot thank all of the fans and supporters of our team enough. It is truly an honor to represent the state and wear the brown and gold. And to be able to enjoy that moment together, seeing our name announced, was truly special."

Cowboys have lots of NCAA coaching experience on their side (WyoSports.net)

When asked what kind of advice and wisdom he can relay to his 12th-seeded Cowboys (25-9) when they play fifth seed and No. 10 Northern Iowa (30-3) on Friday in an East Regional second-round game in Seattle, Shyatt jokingly said: “I’m going to try and keep them away from you guys (in the media).”

“The best thing we can do for (the players) is to keep this week as simple as possible,” Jeremy Shyatt said. “But in the same breath, we’re going to try and prepare them with 80 to 90 percent of strategy, film and all that before Thursday’s open practice with the media in Seattle.”

Panthers see some of themselves in Wyoming

"They're tough, and they're older," said Jacobson. "(Larry) Nance is really good. He plays center for them, but he's more of a power forward, a lot like Seth (Tuttle) is for us. They get used a lot the same way. We isolate Seth a lot in situations and let him play, they do the same thing with Nance.

"They've got a guard who is terrific (Josh Adams), scores in a lot of ways and is athletic, and then a bunch of tough guys with those two who do all the right things for their team to have success."

Denver Post: Wyoming's run to NCAA tourney has turned Laramie into big pep rally

According to the school's sports information office, Wyoming coach Larry Shyatt and his players have conducted a combined 80-plus media interviews during the past two days. Shyatt said he received more than 300 congratulatory texts and e-mails. And counting.

"I'm not a social media guy," he said. "So I'm letting (wife) Pam handle as many as she can."

One of those texts was sent by Florida coach Billy Donovan, Shyatt's boss for seven years with the Gators before Shyatt's return to Laramie in 2011. Shyatt previously coached the Cowboys for one season, compiling a 19-9 record in 1997-98, which served as a springboard for him to get the Clemson job.

Wyoming's Nance, Northern Iowa's Tuttle set to clash on national stage

"It starts with their versatility," Jacobson said. "They both make enough 3-point shots where you have to go out and guard them. Both guys will put it on the floor, both guys are unselfish and have a really good way of getting their teammates involved. They're both good in isolation situations.

"It feels to me in watching that's there's more similarities than there are differences with the two guys."

“It’s always a challenge every time somebody says, ‘Hey, this guy’s pretty good,’" Nance said Monday. "They run their offense through him. Our stats are eerily similar. I just look forward to it.

"It’s going to be one heck of an opportunity to play somebody as high a quality player as he is.”

Beacon Journal: Revere graduate Larry Nance guides Wyoming into NCAA Tournament (Ohio.com)

“This is a dream come true,” the 6-foot-8 and 230-pound Nance said this week. “We came here four years ago and this is what we wanted to reach. We’re playing in a beautiful renovated gymnasium with a new court, two jumbotrons and we’re going to the NCAA Tournament with a 25-9 record. We are pretty excited. Every year you hear about the 12 seed beating the 5, and hopefully we can do that this year.”

Larry Nance Jr. Inspiring Crohn’s Community

“It’s like how [former NFL player] David Garrard affected me. I looked at him and thought to myself, ‘It’s possible.’ So I kept doing my best and here I am. For me to kind of flip that script and me being that person now is really a dream come true. I want to do a foundation, a charity. To be in that position, it is pretty incredible.”

Nance Jr. looks up to Garrard and has dreamed of working alongside the quarterback on a Crohn’s charity or foundation. Shortly after being interviewed for this story, Garrard asked for Nance Jr.’s phone number and the two connected. Garrard would love to be a mentor for Nance Jr., who was thrilled to speak to the athlete he looked up to as a kid.

HELL YEAH LARRY!

So stoked Garrard and Nance JR are in touch. That's got to be pretty awesome for Larry. And Garrard.
Would be great if Larry made the NBA and had a legit mentor in Garrard to help him make it at the next level.

Ties that bind: Different backgrounds have led to strong bond between Grabau, Cooke Jr. (WyoSports.net)

“It gets really competitive now. We foul each other. We talk trash. It’s good to go out there and have fun,” Grabau said.

“All these guys on this team are like my brothers,” Grabau said, “but me and D.C. have become real close. We hang out all the time. We have conversations, along with arguments. But in the end, we love each other. It’s something special that not a lot of people can say they have.”

Jack Bentz thoughts for day 2: Win the day (WyoSports.net)

EDITOR’S NOTE: University of Wyoming senior guard Jack Bentz will provide WyoSports with a daily diary of his thoughts as the Cowboys go through the process of preparing for the NCAA Tournament. Here’s the second installment:

“Win the day.”

This has been the team’s motto for the past month. As the season progresses, coaches and players are determined to take advantage of every day and make the most of each opportunity we take the floor.

Best 1st Round Game: Northern Iowa (5) vs. Wyoming (12). The Panthers only lost three games all season, and two of them came against tourney teams (VCU, Wichita State). They’re so good offensively they rank in the Top 20 according to Ken Pom for 2 FG% and 3 FG%. Defensively, they’re 16th in the country. Why is Wyoming compelling? The inside-outside combo of Larry Nance Jr and Josh Adams. They’ll slow it down, ugly the game up and keep it close for at least 35 minutes.

My Starting 5 (and 6th man) in the Region: PG Kris Dunn (Providence), SG Buddy Hield (Oklahoma), SF Larry Nance Jr. (Wyoming), PF Montrezl Harrell (Louisville), C: Seth Tuttle (Northern Iowa). 6th man: Terry Rozier (Louisville).

WHO CAN MAKE THE SWEET 16?

1. No. 12 Wyoming: The Pokes are a tough team to trust, but I think they are actually a bit better than their seed. A few of their bad losses came while star big man Larry Nance Jr. was out battling mono or right when he got back into the lineup. They looked like a team that could win the conference before he got sick, and they backed that up with their conference tournament win. More than anything, however, I like Wyoming’s matchups. Nance is one of the best front court defenders in the country, and to get to the Sweet 16, the Pokes will likely have to go through two teams that rely heavily on a pair of big men: Northern Iowa’s Seth Tuttle and Louisville’s Montrezl Harrell. Tuttle is Frank Kaminsky 2.0 with his ability to pass out of the post and beat slower big men off the dribble, and we all know how good Harrell can be. Take those two away, and Wyoming has a shot.

Pokes vets reflect on fan support

"The whole state of Wyoming was behind us," (Dent) said. "It made a big difference for us. Wyoming fans travel well, and they're pretty loud. I was in Las Vegas last week and caught a couple games, and it was the same thing. It's amazing how the Wyoming fans get behind their team."

"We went out and did the salmon house and those little things, but it's pretty frenetic, and things were happening so fast," forward Eric Leckner said. "We had a lot of great talent, but we also had a great coach in Jim Brandenburg. He kept us together as a unit and kept us focused."

Northern Iowa's Bohannon carries on family's NCAA Tournament legacy

"When I first saw the 5 seed, I was kind of taken aback. I thought they were a 3 or a 4," Zach said. "But once I saw the bracket and how it played out, you couldn't ask for a better three- or four-game draw. Villanova is probably the 1-seed that you want to face and (second-seeded) Virginia is a great matchup."
