Wyoming defense smothers Stetson en route to fifth consecutive win

“I think the reason we’re playing solid defense pretty much from start to finish these last few games is because the first group is relying on that next group to get their legs and get their energy, and we haven’t had that in the past," Wyoming head coach Larry Shyatt said.

"I can only say that I hope it continues, because I really enjoy that part of it.”

Cowboys dominate Stetson for fifth win of the season (WyoSports.net)

The scores are similar, as are the results in getting there.

And, that's just fine for the University of Wyoming men's basketball team.

The Cowboys improved to 5-0 with a 65-41 victory over Stetson in front of 4,668 at the Arena-Auditorium Wednesday night.

UW beat Florida A&M 66-45 Monday night, Western State 61-41 Nov. 18 and Colorado 56-33 Nov. 22. The Cowboys have held their last four opponents to less than 50 points for the first time since January of 1982.

Notes and Quotes: Wyoming 65, Stetson 41

AKA GORSKI'S DEBUT

Freshman guard Alexander Aka Gorski made his Wyoming debut on Wednesday night, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in eight minutes of play.

Aka Gorski -- a 6-foot-5 guard from Lund, Sweden -- missed the first four games with a broken fingertip on his left hand. On Wednesday, he played despite having the finger wrapped in a massive splint.

The freshman guard said despite the fact that it's difficult to catch passes and handle the ball with the splint, he was happy to produce on Wednesday. And head coach Larry Shyatt was also pleased with Aka Gorski's effort.

“The only thing I didn’t like was that thing on his finger," Shyatt joked. "He knows how to play. He’s going to help this team.”

Cowboys high on what they will get from Aka Gorski

One of the more highly-anticipated debuts for the Wyoming men’s basketball team came Wednesday night when true freshman guard Alexander Aka Gorski saw his first playing time since he fractured the tip of his finger on his left and non-shooting hand in preseason practice.

NMSU BASKETBALL: Aggies head to Laramie to play Wyoming

LAS CRUCES >> New Mexico State has an opportunity to get a quality road win against Wyoming on Saturday at Wyoming.

The Cowboys are 5-0 on the year, receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo., is a tough place for road teams to win a game. Saturday also starts a three-game stretch that includes a road trip to New Mexico on Wednesday and a home game against UTEP on Dec. 13.

"I think this stretch is a big one and it's really important for us to get back on the winning side of things," NMSU senior guard Daniel Mullings said after the Aggies' 78-33 win over Florida A&M on Wednesday. "We've been through a couple of losses and have been through a lot of pain together. It's time to heal that pain, get a couple wins and this trip will be the perfect one for that."

Not going to lie I'm a little worried because CU always plays like crap against us yet they somehow always end up doing better later in the year so I'm nervous about this game today.
