What really sucks about the next game

I would love to see the Cowboys beat TCU, however, it TCU wins and goes to a $14 million BCS bowl, Wyoming (and the rest of the conference schools) would receive a $1+ million parting gift.

No more of this "I won't feel so bad if TCU wins" talk on this board! Take that crap to the mwc board if you must, but here TCU is the enemy. I'm expecting a win on Saturday, no less. We have had the frogs' number in Laramie since they came into the conference, and I expect that trend to continue. GO POKES!!!

I wouldn't say 2005 was having their number. We never seemed to recover as a program from that loss at home against TCU. We were returning a lot from the Vegas Bowl team, off to a great 4-1 start getting votes in the polls. Had we won that game we would have moved into the top 25. But they beat us with our 7 turnovers and we never recovered.
Those 7 turnovers ALL came from our quarterback, nonetheless. Worst game I have been to.

And seriously, expecting to beat TCU is like expecting to beat Texas. In my mind, the teams are pretty much equally matched, except TCU has started executing on offense as of late, whereas they were not earlier in the season. I will always cheer for Cowboys to win, but I'm also realistic enough to realize that it will take a miracle to win this one. Most of all, I want the Cowboys to come out of this one without any key injuries, as losing to the sheep would be awful.

I am all for the MWC getting a team into a BCS bowl as often as possible. The money is very nice, and the recognition is even better! BUT I will never root for that to happen at the expense of Wyoming. If TCU beats the Pokes on Saturday then I hope they win their season finally and get picked to represent themselves and the conference on the biggest of stages. However, until the outcome of the game Saturday with the Pokes is decided I am still rooting for TCU to leave Laramie with one loss and the Pokes to pull off the biggest win in UW football history!

GO POKES!!!

The "purse" if you call it that...is different than that. I was told that a BCS game for the MWC equals about 9 million to pay out, to all non-AQ conference school members / teams (39). That would equal roughly 230K per school...UW included.

Like I said above, UW first always!

I actually completely agree that TCU and Texas are pretty much equally matched. In fact given TCU's speed this year I actually think TCU is better than Texas this season. That said, on any given saturday anything can happen and I will always root for the Pokes to pull off the upset, no matter what the odds are.

I'm guessing you didn't make it to the BYU game a few weeks ago...

I think we are all pissing around the same thing. Until the game clock on Saturday reads 0:00 we are cheering for Wyoming to win. After that, go TCU. But only until after the game.

Well, it's one thing to barely lose a game because you have 7 turnovers committed by one single player, and another to be blown out of the water by a team that executes every play to perfection.

I usually feel it's worse losing a game you know you should have won than it is to get blown out, even though the former is less embarrassing.

But no, I didn't make it to the BYU game, I'm very happy I had to spend that weekend with the in-laws and that they didn't make fun of my hapless Alma Mater. As a matter of fact, I went and watched a Mesa State hockey game, and their fans talked about how they got blown out of the water twice by Wyoming the week before :)

I stand corrected.

Does anyone have proof of this? Everything I have heard has always been that the way the MWC is setup any profits from bowl games are split 50/50 between the school that plays and the conference (which then divvies it up to the other teams). For instance a bowl payout of 1 million dollars would result in 500K for the team that played and the other 500K being split amongst the rest of the teams. My understanding has always been that the BCS bowl game payout is the same. It doesn't make much sense that the money would have to be split with all non-bcs teams, but then again the whole BCS is a BS system so it wouldn't surprise me either.

Yes, go read the BCS website, I'll dig up the rules later tonight if you like.

Thats part of what is so unfair about the system to the non-AQ conferences. They have to share amongst their 5 conferences, while BCS conferences only have to share with themselves.

I think it is something like, 1/2 the money goes to all the other non-AQ conferences. Of the remaining half, TCU would get half of that and the MWC would would split up the remaining money.

So I think 1/2 to all non AQ's, 1/4 to TCU, 1/4 to the MWC. Off the top of my head thats how I remember it but I'll look it up later.

So if TCU and Boise St. make it, we would also get a nice little check from their BCS bowl.

You can always google it...there is a ton of information / sources that talk about it.

Here is one article from USA today in 2006:
