What are you looking forward to this season?

Whether the Pokes win or lose there are always some good moments each and every season.

What are some things you are looking forward to?

My list:

Upgrade in QB play.

Wick and Hill.

Hopefully a blowout over an FCS opponent to start the season. Been a while since we have had one of those.
2006 we beat USU 38-7 to start the season, that was our last blowout win in a season opener.
2004 we beat Appy State 53-7 to start the season.

Starting to see a more finely tuned "Bohl ball" product. I know it won't be a finished product but it will be closer than last season.

The quicker speed on defense.

Eddy and Uso taking that next step.

Finley becoming an elite CB in the MWC.

The game in Logan against USU. Friday night game on ESPN2.

What about you guys?

For me:

1. Watching Wick and Hill steamroll defenses.
2. Watch, from the sounds of it, a much more dangerous offense.
3. See how the new faces on defense do.
4. See how soon Olive and Yarborough can get into their grooves (it took Eddie about half the season before he really showed up).
5. Year 2 of Bohl Ball.
6. Hopefully hitting that 6 win mark and taking the guys bowling.

The 1/2 of Wick and Hill AND an increase in win total of 2. I don't think 6-6 is a stretch and is a step in the right direction

With games like North Dakota, Eastern Michigan, Appy State, New Mexico, UNLV, AFA, and Nevada, I think the Pokes can hit 6 wins.

It won't be easy, but I do think they have a fair chance. Just need to win most of the games we (wyonation fans) think they should. Might need to grab another game that we think might be a bit of a stretch like Wazzu or USU or Boise, but I do think Wyo has a fair shot this season.

Beating virginia by 3 touchdowns to start off 2007 in front of a sellout was pretty spectacular as well.

Yeah I thought about putting that on the list, but with it being a 10 point game about halfway through the 4th before Wyo added those final 10 points to get to 23-3 I didn't consider it a blowout. Great game though.

Fair enough. Either way, a statement win to start the season would be great to see this year. I'm hoping to see big plays early on in the season (sacks and hopefully an INT before week 11) that will get us off on a good start. If our defense can make some big plays while wick and hill carry the offense until Coffman gets a good grasp on things in time for our big stretch to finish out the season, I think bowl eligibility should be the expectation. I wouldn't be that surprised to see us steal an extra win or two.

Oh, and I think we could see 2 1,000 yard rushers this season. Wick or Hill will be first team all conference along with Yarbrough and perhaps even Olive.

Hmm...the Poke record books in the last 15 years are loaded with losses to teams Wyo fans perceived as wins. Remember last off-season? Some were genuinely offended that some of us suggested Wyoming could lose to Hawaii. It was almost worse than that! Should have lost to FAU, and Montana was a nail-biter as well. Oddly enough, Fresno was the only game the Cowboys won decisively. 1/12 games.

North Dakota, Eastern Michigan, and UNLV are the only games Wyoming "should win". The rest are toss ups (spread under 5 going either way) or underdog status.

That's right, I forgot we're not allowed to be optimistic about Cowboy football on this forum. Thanks J-Rod for reminding me.

LOL You're welcome!

I'm just saying...there are several teams listed there that view Wyoming as a game they "should win". Those are called toss ups. But I know BP...Wyoming could field a team of half-blind albino dingoes and he'd still find a way of putting them in the Rose Bowl.

Can Wyoming go 6-6? Absolutely. Hell, if all the breaks go their way they could go 8-4 like 2011. But "should" insinuates a superiority. If you tell Air Force fans that Wyoming should beat them on their home field, I bet you get a lot of these :| looks.

The Qb situation was pretty bad last season. Add the freakishly amount of injuries to key players and a 3-1 season turned into 1-7 finish. That shit happens, but the extent of the injuries was staggering. Never saw anything like that.

For me, I'm looking forward to the improvement in special teams play that comes with an increase in speed/athleticism.

The last two recruiting classes added a lot of open field speed to the Cowboys. We'll be better in the return game and the speed will allow us to pin people deeper.

Our special teams have been an ugly, butthole for a long time. It's about time for special teams to become an advantage for Wyoming again.

Utah State was down to their 4th string QB. Boise State was without their top three DTs before Week 2. SDSU's best LB broke his arm. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, and it only proves to be a big deal if you don't have depth. This issue could arise again this season for UW. Hopefully not, but few teams in all of college football go an entire season without tough injuries....and unfortunately for this Wyo team, all it takes is a few bad breaks at certain positions for things to go to shit quickly.

I may be totally off with this theory... But the amount of injuries may have had something to do with a new conditioning program and meal plan for the players. Obviously this isn't to blame for everything last year, but I think an extra year of training and eating under this new system will lead to fewer injuries this coming year.

Those injuries last year got several of the young guys some PT & experience for this season. That is how you build depth.

Hopefully that will be the case. The defense really got whipped to close the season last year. Sometimes losing a bunch of starters can actually be a good thing, other times not so much. I could see this defense improving this season, I could also see them being very bad. Only time will tell. We'll have a good grasp in the first few weeks. No defense with any self respect is going to give up more than 17 points to the North Dakota No-Names or Eastern Michigan. The Washington State game will be a good barometer to see if we've improved, especially in the secondary.

I think the secondary is going to be vastly improved this year. We've got a lot of young atheletes in the last two classes. With the new guys joining Priester and Pownell, we'll have a lot of competition throughout the secondary.

For me, this is the next most exciting thing aside from special teams. Our secondary has been horribad for years. This year we might have the ability to make teams pay for trying to go deep on us.

I look forward to Bohl ending a long streak of poor-to-average home performances vs. weak opponents to open a season. Like BP said, WMS hasn't been the fortress it used to be. Since the end of the Glenn era, Wyoming has struggled with FCS opponents, weak MAC-type schools, etc. Games that are supposed to be tune up games end up being dog fights. Montana and Florida Atlantic shouldn't give Wyoming a challenge at home, but they did. These are supposed to be glorified scrimmages.

I hope for and look forward to Wyoming beating North Dakota and Eastern Michigan by 38-7-ish type scores. If they don't, something is wrong.
