Good god, I hope so.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much. All university presidents care about athletics in two ways, and in this order: 1) they want it run cleanly, with no NCAA rule-type or other kinds of scandals; and 2) acceptable success by the teams.
Leaving aside that the first is just the right way to run things, when both exist, a president has just one less distraction from her actual job, which is managing, creating and setting a course to ensure a healthy, good university.
You just come across as an ass to me, but then I remember that you're self proclaimed Wyoming, through and through. Your sermons on how universities "work" and how ALL presidents think are then put in perspective. Saying that a president's actual job doesn't include athletics is just asinine. And yes, this is a message board where I can call you out as a jerk off in a nonchalant manner.
I think your only higher ed experience is around the University of Wyoming where maybe, yes, presidents only care about acceptable success and for athletics to be run cleanly. In order to be 180° different than what Wyoming is and has been athletically, the attention to athletics (as well as RESEARCH) and its special place as the face of the institution needs to be recognized and treated commensurately by the leader. Wyoming isn't South Dakota as much as many would like it to be when it comes to college athletics. If the president isn't taking personal responsibility for the front porch and makes the decision to make our teams just so-so, then the whole institution pays for those decisions.
Since the UW president needs to be the biggest donor/cheerleader/proponent out there, instead of the picture of naivete who proclaims boldly that she's proud to be a CSU Ram through and through, she's not starting off well. Her choices for her executive team and her relationships with Burman, Mead and other peer (conference) institution leaders will be telling. I'm not enamored so far.
Unless she fires Burman. Then I'll suck her dick.
