We have a new President

Looks like she is mainly concerned with academics.

Good god, I hope so.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much. All university presidents care about athletics in two ways, and in this order: 1) they want it run cleanly, with no NCAA rule-type or other kinds of scandals; and 2) acceptable success by the teams.

Leaving aside that the first is just the right way to run things, when both exist, a president has just one less distraction from her actual job, which is managing, creating and setting a course to ensure a healthy, good university.

You just come across as an ass to me, but then I remember that you're self proclaimed Wyoming, through and through. Your sermons on how universities "work" and how ALL presidents think are then put in perspective. Saying that a president's actual job doesn't include athletics is just asinine. And yes, this is a message board where I can call you out as a jerk off in a nonchalant manner.

I think your only higher ed experience is around the University of Wyoming where maybe, yes, presidents only care about acceptable success and for athletics to be run cleanly. In order to be 180° different than what Wyoming is and has been athletically, the attention to athletics (as well as RESEARCH) and its special place as the face of the institution needs to be recognized and treated commensurately by the leader. Wyoming isn't South Dakota as much as many would like it to be when it comes to college athletics. If the president isn't taking personal responsibility for the front porch and makes the decision to make our teams just so-so, then the whole institution pays for those decisions.

Since the UW president needs to be the biggest donor/cheerleader/proponent out there, instead of the picture of naivete who proclaims boldly that she's proud to be a CSU Ram through and through, she's not starting off well. Her choices for her executive team and her relationships with Burman, Mead and other peer (conference) institution leaders will be telling. I'm not enamored so far.

Unless she fires Burman. Then I'll suck her dick.

Oh, a President's job certainly includes overseeing athletics, and I didn't say otherwise.

And I don't mind that you call me names. The internet is perfect for that!

Spot on.

Yet, I don't see that happening within the current culture of the state of Wyoming. Not in my lifetime at least.

And - on the topic of the new President (stating with a huge smile) that she is a "CSewe ram through and through" - for the first time maybe ever on this board, I am at a loss for words. I simply cannot believe she said that. Fuck me.

She said she's "A CSU ram through and through" !?!?!?!?!? Barf.

I would laugh out loud (between bouts of crying over shots of Beam) if the BOT went with a nice, safe parochial hire, whose first priority is to establish a nice, safe parochial committee to keep their parochial seats nice and safe....and that person immediately stepped in the dung pile by pledging allegiance to our archrival.

You can't make this sh!t up.

Correct. "I had the opportunity to complete my master's degree up the road at CSU, so I'm a ram! (fist pump kind of thing)... through and through."

Hard to believe anyone could end up on 90%, if not more, of a school's fans/supporters shit list in their first interview after becoming President of a school. But she did it.

My thoughts exactly.

If Dick McGinity and half the BOT has one hair on their collective ass, they'd put a CSEwe logo on the exit door at Old Main and a Steamboat on the door to the President's Office and walk her through the one that matters most to her...

Wow. I mean seriously how can she in a right mind say that?

Honestly how can we as alumni/students/fans hold the BOT accountable for this? It seems they have unyielding power without accountability. I'm at a loss for words right now.... just wow.

Only thing I can think is that she didn't realize the athletic history between the schools. I don't think it was an intentional "CSU > Wyoming" jab, it was more of a mindless comment trying to possibly relate to some Denver media who may have been there, or showing people she has Front Range ties.

Definitely not a strong start though....

So you are saying she is not only stupid, she is ignorant as well?

It is more than just athletics...

She shouldn't be president if she doesn't know that. How can you be a Ram through and through and not know about the Wyoming /CSU history? Also I don't want a president that is happy to be a supporter of my arch rival school. It is like letting the enemy run your school. Might as well let the CEO of Mcdonald's run Burger King. You know it will get run right into the ground purposely. It also isn't just athletic history. Wyoming competes with CSU for student enrollment and academic achievements as well.

Need to post the emails of the bot and make them respond to this publicly. Honestly how someone who wants to be president of a FBS University can state this is ridiculous and shouldn't even have the job. Shows me she sure as hell doesn't pay attention to detail and will probably let things slip through the cracks running the University.

Not sure how this didn't get out the minute she said it.

Another somewhat depressing answer regarding athletics in her meeting with students (about 49 minutes in)

I won't be able to watch the full length of the video, but given how she was introduced in that video as one of the finalists rather than the next President, is this interview from before she was selected?

Yes. The interview saying she proudly fucks sheep was also before she was selected I believe. They held multiple public forums with the 3 finalists in an attempt to avoid Sternberg, part II. Clearly that didn't work
