Good article. Basically, expect Kirkegaard to start, but eventually be replaced if he stinks up the joint.

*When he stinks it up, not if.

Gee, the kid probably hasn't even thrown 50 passes this a.m. and you're already comin' down on him? OUCH!

It's Sdpokefan, get ready for the "this guy sucks!", "this team sucks!", " this group sucks!", "these coaches were supposed to be good.", "But I'm still a big fan, and anyone that questions my comments can F off! Especially if I question anyone else on here..."

"You left out FCS football is so awesome and Wyoming should move down."

Smith had a jump on pittser and never did anything to warrant losing his job to him

I don't know. Pittser struggled at an FCS school and I believe that Smith was pure and simple the far better QB.

Kirkegaard was a very good QB.
How on earth do you figure that? Kirkegaard career stats are below, and his lone start resulted in Wyoming's only loss to an FCS school in program history. He hasn't proven he's good, let alone very good.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/520520/colby-kirkegaard" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry, I meant pre-Wyoming in high school and JC.

36 passes at Wyoming is hardly enough to judge someone's quality. And as much as the Cal Poly game hurt, you can't blame that on the QB. He hit over 60% of his passes, but we couldn't get a ground game going. Our play calling was it's normal shit and Cal Poly killed us with time of possession. A stat the last staff never worried about...

Plus, what's with our defense giving up that many points to an FCS team, and at home? That loss was a team effort.

Yikes, I don't know how anyone can make the argument Kirkegaard was anything but awful in the Cal-Poly game. I don't believe that DC and staff prepared Captain Kirk properly for that game although. What Kirkegaard did in JUCO is fairly irrelevant.

I am hopeful that Kirkegaard has progressed quite a bit under Bohl's coaching. We will have to wait and see. However, anything close to the Cal-Poly performance is unacceptable at the D1 level.

Except everybody's hero Kirkegaard managed to lose to an FCS school for the first time in Wyoming's history, so I guess that's out. Brett Smith would have put 60 points on that team. But if you all want to believe he's the next John Elway, don't let me spoil your delusion.

Kirk had good numbers in the CP game. But for a spread to be successful you need wide open routes. DC had our WRs doing wheel routes and U routes and fades to the sideline. Those weren't Kirks fault, hence less yardage per catch. Even the int at the end, I believe was tipped by the WR. Had Kirk had Herron in that game, plus a better RG, I think DC would've opened it up more.
But his completion rate had me excited. He new how to hit his WRs. I hope that continues. I think we are in an offense that Kirk can take comfort in. I just hope he has progressed since he first came here. I do feel comfy with kirk. I think he can grow and do well. I hope he takes this year, grabs it by the horns and makes it his bitch.

And from Kansas Cowboy, prepare for him to tell us how we're probably still in the race for a BCS championship even though we lost to Roast Beef Tech by 65 points, and it's still the best team he has ever seen in the history of the school, Mountain West, country, planet earth and solar system.

15 of 23 for 123 yards and an interception is good? Good Lord.

Nobody said that, did they SD poke? Yes, I believe Smith Would've beat CP. But DC changed the WR routes to make dink and dunk passes. That's what screwed us. Yes, Kirk can be blamed for the CP game, yes, it could also be because six of our starters plus 4 main contributors were out with injury that game. Why does everyone blame only Kirk for that game? If I remember right our running game was abysmal that game, was our RBs sucking it up that game Kirks fault? What about our O line play. You want to only blame Kirk, but what about the rest of the 35 players that registered playing time that game? Come On Sdpokefan?

Because he was terrible? And incapable of throwing a pass over 15 yards?

Thanks for the insight-all of you who replied. He really is Howdy Doody! Seen his type over the years and in a number of different conferences and divisions. My Dad used to call 'em baby birds-all mouth and a**hole.

OK OK, sorry. I forgot there is no logic allowed on this message board. Kirkegaard is going to throw for 5,000 yards and win the Heisman.

#kirk4heisman

An old coach always said "it is never as bad or as good as you think".......we are about to find out!

Actually, the Pokes ran for 137 yards in that game and Colby Elway threw for 123 against a team that gave up 250 yards a game in the air.

No one even alluded to anything like that. Just that DC did not set him up for success in the one game he had a chance in. Kirk did not choose the short passes, DC did. He was also not a spread QB...and it was obvious by his mobility.

Bottom line, in a system better suited to his playing style, we should see improved play...and we aren't ready to throw our starting QB under the bus before he has a chance to be set up for success and still fail.
