Three Current and Future MWC Teams in the Bottom 10

Now that's a bold, or delusional, perspective.

I don't think the 2 pac rejects are going to be the best conference mates. They went from whipping boy doormats to some eerie false sense of value and superiority.

In stages of grief, they are stuck in denial. Denial that they are nothing more than g6.

Could that sentiment be based on the something like 76-124 record in conference play since being included in the MWC?

Even the sacred CB only managed a 37-41 in the MWC, but with him winning nearly half of the games won in MWC in 10 of the 27 years to date of conference play it felt like we had become a conference powerhouse.

Maybe .474 in conference play is enough to say we are doing just fine!

If Sawful wins the next 2 he will be .454 in conference play and right on track to be the next CB! Maybe not such a tall order except I am extremely skeptical Calhoun doesn’t put a pounding on the Pokes in lightening fashion.
I’ll go ahead and assume the bolded part of your post was sarcasm — because if not, your bar for “success” must be buried somewhere under War Memorial’s turf.

My point was pretty simple: if we win a lot, we’ll be fine. There’s no alternate universe where we’re “fine” without winning.

On the flip side, it doesn’t take much imagination to picture what things could look like if we ever won at a Boise-State-type clip — packed stadium, national relevance, people actually excited to follow the team again.

The formula isn’t complicated. We just haven’t come close to solving it in a long time.

I think everything will turn out well if we win. But we have to win

I was serious that the AD talked about the success of getting to bowl games like we were already on that Boise style win mode.

I have referenced this before, but several years ago (Glenn era) I was invited to forums on how to increase attendance and support where I emphasized winning and winning routinely in conference. Most of the dumbshit Wyoming fans could only come up with stuff like don’t have home games during hunting season, play late afternoon games so kids soccer in Cheyenne doesn’t interfere with games, start earlier so people can drive to Sheridan after the game and get home before dark.

The formula is simple - compete for the conference championship constantly and win it. Can anyone remember the AA in the early 2000’s when winning the conference?

The rah rah from University AD's around making some small bowl has never bothered me. Every school puts a positive spin on making a bowl game...what bothers me is the year on year mediocre or worse results. I do remember you telling me about those forums, those comments blow my mind.... must be very casual fans making those.

+1000 to memories of the AA from the early 2000's though.

The only thing is lack of winning. The only thing significantly impacted by lack of winning is potentially being asked to join the pac. I guess also not going to the playoff, but that's like not favorite nfl team not making divisional championships. Bowls we have access to, tv money/time, conference we are in (sans potentially pac if that's what you wanted), etc. are all mostly out of our control. The crap bowl argument is not a good one because the MWC's bowl tie-ins are crap. Crap is the option.

Those of us not satisfied are not satisfied because we historically suck at every sport. Some of us have seen different eras where that's not the case. Much of the student body wasn't alive or was just born during Rat Boy's tenure. Go back 18 to 20 years and look at athletic department success. To the new student body failure is probably the expectation. Bohl was the only thing that even smelled like winning.

Every year is different. They new look MWC in 2026 will be better then the rebuilt Pac-12. The arrogance of Oregon St and Wazzu just diluted what a joint Pac-12/MW merger could have been.

WTF!?!? The new look MWC is pure garbage in football. Looking at this year’s performances in computer ranking systems such as Sagarin, the new MWC conference would be the WORST FBS conference and is WORSE than the Missouri Valley and Big Sky.

Let’s not lie to ourselves to make us feel good. Starting next year, we are undeniably in a really bad conference. Putting all the worst teams in a single conference so the bad teams can get a few more wins does not mean that the conference or teams have improved.

So this year rankings determines the future? Interesting.

We can also look at the impressive football pasts of Nevada, SJSU, Hawaii, UTEP, Wyoming UNLV and New Mexico football if you prefer.

Just because you put all the worst teams in a conference and suddenly some of the worst teams get more wins (because that must occur when you have a game with one winner each time), does not mean the conference improves. If our goal is to get ‘wins’ against crap competition, we should immediately join the RMAC or something.
