It does say that TCU is interested in the idea of joining.

There is also the issue of TCU's President or AD saying that they have not been in contact with the Big East.TwoTone said:Wyokie said:TwoTone said:You guys are talking as though its a done deal. I didnt read it that way at all and I have read NOTHING that can honestly say TCU wants to leave

marcuswyo said:So how do we get fans to come out? I say fans will come if we are winning and competing for conference championships. For a decade we haven't come close to competing for a conference championship ( got third in 06? With a 6-6 overall record?). I don't know how to close the gap between us and the top of the conference, and neither does our administration. Although the gap did just close a little with Utah leaving and if TCU leaves (not saying they are but there is a decent chance) then the gap closes even more. I really believe the best thing for Wyoming would be to compete for a conference championship year in and year out. That would do more for recruiting and attendance then anything else, and with teams like Utah leaving the conference we have a better shot at that.
I know most people will say fans will not come out for competing against lower competion at the D1 level, and it might be comparing apples to oranges but a league made up of teams without TCU and Utah is probably comparable to the WAC of the early 90's and late 80's which was wyoming last great years of football.
Our problem is, is that many students come from out of state, whereas Clemson most likely has mostly local students from the surrounding area. We get guys from Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Montana, etc who already have big name schools that they grew up with. Plus, the last decade or so hasn't helped much either. :?Cornpoke said:I have always said use the Clemson model. Clemson itself is a smaller town than Laramie. Granted, they do have more cities surrounding to bring in fans from. However lets cut Clemsons stadium down to half, 40k seats, the cities of Cheyenne, Casper, Rawlins could easily fill it up with plenty to spare.
Clemson isn't all that good on a yearly basis nor does it have all that much tradition either. Only 1 national championship, in 81, which is still disputed. What they do well is act like a Big time program. They take their football very serious. Having grown up in SEC country I know the religious mentality of football in the south having been around it so long. So how do we bring some of that thinking and tradition into the UW program? How do we get students on campus to stop wearing other schools apparel, *cough cough Nebraska*, on campus and be damn proud to support the Pokes?
Or do we just hold the line with what we have and hope that a winning season or two will revolutionize the way this program is perceived?

Highest average attendance in a normal 6 game home slate....
23,753 in 1988

Many times. Having lived in Knoxville for many years I have attended many Vols games. Always pulling for the other teamMrTitleist said:Corn, have you been to a game at Neyland Stadium? I'm thinking about going to the Montana/Tennessee game next September.
