Summer Hoops Notes and Pics

Now we need a couple of long wings to round out the class. Eric Turner and Justin James: get on board before all the scholarships are gone.

No idea how solid but I like we are getting some big guys on the roster.
Still looking for some solid info on him, but here's hoping these two quick commitments from Moemeka and Naughton help to influence James and/or Turner. Momentum in WYO's corner right now.

The reports are he is 6"10 and 220. Ranked as the #44 center on ESPN, but only a two star. Could be a solid big man.

He is #33 in Red, At least this gives some size idea. Not much for athletic ability to see in this because the spot light was on Jordan McLaughlin.

We posted the same things in different threads, These next years are going to be pretty special for Basketball.

Several of these names look familiar. Let's get the deal sealed here.

A little surprised we took a 2nd big man in this class. I kind of thought we would try to sign at least two wings. Might oversign, like last year, but I don't necessarily like that process unless the staff anticipates a specific departure (someone graduating early, etc.).

James/Turner are clearly the top priorities right now. Landing either one would be great. I really like Turner's highlight video. Clearly a D1 prospect physically. Would be great to have an athletic, physical wing that can score inside and out.

I would assume this takes us out of the running for Hassan Thomas and Jordan Dallas.

There's not much info out there on Naughton. I kind of questioned if there was another big out there on our list that would be better. I trust the staff on this one. Naughton had to sit out a month his junior year after transferring. Then he broke his hand and wasn't able to play during the summer circuit. He's been largely unseen this year. I do know he was brought in on the August 1st weekend, the first real chance to bring in recruits. The staff must have been high on him to get him here that early.

I still think we'll try and get JJ and Turner. I can't remember a year when we didn't lose anyone to attrition, so it seems like a solid strategy to load up an extra.

Extremely excited to see a coaching staff that finally cares enough to show that you can actually recruit to Laramie. I think basketball is "there" now! I think football may be a couple of years away, but both are looking promising.

Gotta be an Insider to read the article man. Could you post Larry's section?

Larry Nance Jr. | F | Wyoming Cowboys
2013-14 per game stats: 15.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.1 blocks

Nance is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered at the end of last season, but hopefully will be healthy and cleared to play this season. The son of three-time NBA All-Star and Slam Dunk champion Larry Nance, he is a 6-8 frontcourt player with a 7-2 wingspan (even the Bilastrator would appreciate his length). The former mid-major recruit was part of Larry Shyatt's first class at Wyoming, and the Cowboys have won 59 games since he took over three seasons ago.

The graceful Nance has a high basketball IQ and is a freakish athlete who can face and shoot the ball to the 3-point line. He is a human highlight reel in transition and on the block. One of the best returning defensive players in the country, Nance averaged more than 1.5 steals and more than two blocks per game last season. A healthy Nance could help lead the Cowboys to a Mountain West title and an NCAA bid this season.
