Count me in the side of the hire of Brock Spack as being one of acceptance that Wyoming can only be what they are, in other words "mediocre". If Brock Spack is the best that Wyoming can do then we need a different AD. I read the stuff about the MAC Championship game last night and how we should be looking at the game because of its connection to the search for the next HC at Wyoming and that frankly depressed me. Wyoming needs a dynamic hire, not a hire who has connections like Spack, because as someone else very accurately mentioned, if Brock Spack didn't have connections with Tiller we would not even be talking about him DUE to his record. I was excited about Tedford because he has been successful at the highest level as a coach, Spack's record while overall he has a winning record, this last season was very unremarkable and the scores that his defense gave up in some of the games reminds me of Wyoming's defense this last season and there is no way that I can get excited about that.
I have no doubt that Burman will talk up whatever candidate he announces as the next HC but if it is Brock Spack the only thing that I will get is indigestion. If Wyoming "settles" for a lesser hire then tries to talk him up it only goes to show how bad things truly are in Laramie. Right now, my impression of UW is that it is a bunch of good old boys that are discovering that things are failing within the athletic department and they are struck with the reality that their cheapness has doomed Wyoming to years of mediocrity and they don't care for the glare of their failure to be put upon them. The BOT really doesn't want to spend more on the athletic department as they are all talk and nothing else and at this point the BOT needs to put up or shut up. If we "settle" for a lesser candidate then that tells me the cheapness side has won and mediocrity will be the future of the department no matter how much they protest to the opposite.
But right now I am so "unexcited" it isn't funny....I hope that I see a real commitment to winning at Wyoming with this hire and not just a surrender and a lot of talk to cover it up.
