SDSU @ 25Wyoming

I still love this team and how far we've come, that's not gonna change this year no matter what. I do think if we played to our maximum potential we could probably be about the 16th ranked team in the country (sweet sixteen). That however means no silly turnovers, no stupid fouls, the bench coming alive playing fearless, the offense being dynamic the whole game, and our best defense the whole game to name a few. We didn't come close to any these last night. Part of that was who we played and part of that was mental. For us to be in the top 25 though is really squeezing all the juice out of the WHOLE team. We just don't have the athletes of a SDSU or UNLV type teams.

Lets give SDSU some props. That's a well coached team that came to play in a statement game. Straight up came into our house and smacked us in the mouth. They beat us with style and aggression. Looked like the hungrier team last night, that's something we can work on. We have to want it more then them every night.

After the last few games, the only observation I can make is -- don't expect much for next year. Enjoy what you can now.

I don't get that at all. We'll be top half of the conference.

Don't worry about some of the more negative posters on this board. Shyatt has always made the most out of what he has. We lost some seniors next year, but Larry will have this team playing at a high level.

We were top 25 two years ago before Luke Martinez got kicked off the team. Last year we were in the top 3 before Larry got hurt. I expect more of the scoring to come from Herndon, McManamen, Adams of course, Gorski (best shooter on the team), Morris and maybe Lieberman. I thin Jonathan Barnes has huge upside and will be a force in the middle defensively...need his offense to improve and it will.

Add in a very talented recruiting class with what will be the fastest player in the league and length everywhere else. While I am still looking forward to the remainder of this year....next year will be the building of even something more special.

Go Pokes!!

Yeah I've been anxious about next year a lot myself. We're going to take our lumps for sure, but we don't know anything about the guys coming in. My only problem with Shyatt has just been with our interior recruiting. We need 3 above the rim bigs. We've needed this for like 10 years and we've never been able to accomplish it. I can't even imagine how tough we'd be to beat if we routinely won the board battle. We should be fine at the guard positions next year, Herndon will be a year better, but the freshmen/first year Pokes are gonna have to deliver big time for us to even be top 6.

I agree with Jimmy. I get frustrated at times, but dang. We have some amazing coaches in Laramie fellas. They know what they are doing. I think they are awesome at player development.

Next year will be a step back due to the number of seniors leaving but we will have players step up. Our coaches will get them ready. Im looking forward to seeing the young guys grow next year and Josh Adams take the team on his shoulders. I think we could suprise next year. Will take some bumps along the road but become pretty good by the end of the year.

Listen to some of you. Are you roommates with BYU fans? Good gosh with the negativity. The team will be fine.

Are we really worrying about next year? We lost one game to a top mwc team, playing arguably our ugliest game of the year and still had chances, and we are already looking to next year? Let's worry about this year, dialing it in and winning the MWC.

Well I'd like to say another thing. How about the job Steve Fisher's done at SDSU? We may not like them and they don't like us, but SDSU is routinely a tough tough out every year. That guy gets good players and gets them to play hardcore defense. Thank god they haven't cloned Steve Fisher and sent him over to UNLV or New Mexico. I don't want to see us get pasted on the boards 8 times a year like that :brick:

I'm no way negative on this team this year. Not giving up. We're just rightfully worried about next year a little. Talking it out amongst each other.

Yes, we will be young and inexperienced next year. And we will posses many questions. But our cupboards are not empty. Along with some talented ant strong underclass men that we currently have on the roster, we will be bringing in by far our best recruiting class since 2000. I think we will will have a few growing pains, but I think we will see a mid to lower upper level tier team starting out. And will continue to build into an even stronger team than the current one is.
Yes, we are not Duke or Kansas, where we can lose top players and not really see the effects of it the next year. But we won't drop off either. Shyatt is trying to do a job similar to Fisher at SDSU. Build the talent up to where you can sustain loss of players. And he's been doing it the right way by going after HS players. I believe Shy has only gone after three JUCOs since being here. Sellers, Cooke, and the one were bringing in next year. He's not all about quick fixes, he wants to build something here.
This years team is not our greatest team ever. But they are well disciplined and play damn good. Ant they scrap to the end. I think this team has many more wins left in them. Every outing in this league is not a gaurunteed win. And it shows, with the likes of Fresno and Nevada from week to week. And then your top comp with SDSU, UNLV, and New Mex. We are a conf of sleepers. Any team on any given year can break out. We've watched Nevada come about in conf play last year, Fresno this year. CSU, and AFA a few years ago. That inconsistency marks this league impossible to prepare for. But, I think this is WYO year to make some noise, and I think the players know that and are buying into it.
This loss sucks! But it's not the end of the season. If anyone thought we would run the table in this conf, they were a fool. We may even drop a few more, even playing well. But that is isn't the end of the world for us.
People say this league is down this year. Why? Because not one team is in the top 25? Yeah, no one is consistantly in the top 25, but you have three team consistently receiving votes and always right on the outside looking in. WYO, SDSU and CSU are all right there. And UNM and maybe Boise ( if they can find consistency after Drimic) are all still in the mix... I guess I better not rule out "Fresno" either...

What I was trying to imply is that next year's team will be very green, very inexperienced. The "last few games" observation pointed to the fact that the bench was in for a very short time and made negligible scoring contribution. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the contribution of the dominant player for next year, I see Adams at 10. Then McManamen and Herndon at 4. The rest are 1 or 2. Of course, we don't know about the Freshmen. There could be a Jay Straight or Brandon Ewing among the recruits.
