Rank Hills decision to leave early.....

At first, I was angry with the falcon's picking hill. Let me preface by saying I have not been a fan of Atlanta since deion sanderclause and the gold chains of the early 90s. Then the falcons beat the Vikings in the NFC championship game in 98-99. That cemented it for me.

I was silently laughing last super bowl, getting out my years of emotional abuse towards the falcons. Even today, old feelings and bile rose up in my throat.

Hours later, currently... I watched the management for the falcons talk about hill and the rest of their draft class... I feel differently. I actually have liked Dan Quinn for years... Matt Ryan is a good dude, I like Julio Jones.

I also was pissed that hill fell so far. I was scared he made the wrong choice leaving early. I want him to stick in the NFL and make some money. Not saying it's going to be easy making the falcons squad, but damn happy he ended up there. It feels like he belongs there. He didn't end up with some crappy roster and dead end team.

Things definitely worked out, I sincerely wish him the greatest success and hope that a few years from now he can use the chip on his shoulder to shame the assholes that passed him up.

Run them over Brian and keep a fond memory of your time in Laramie. Great job and we are proud that you will always be a cowboy. Send some talent our way from the dirty south.

Hope it works out. I was somewhat ticked as the 3rd and 4th round went on and some of the RB's picked above him. It is what it is, but as Cuttslam pointed out the difference between a 5th round and 3rd round contract is substantial and for a lot of NFL running backs they get just that first contract.

I still hope he does well and sticks in the NFL. Only the best to him, but it stung that he dropped into the 5th. I can't say it was a mistake or not. If he stayed and got hurt and was undrafted, then no it wasn't a mistake. If he stayed, was healthy and had a good or monster year and got drafted 3rd round, then it was a mistake. There is no way of knowing, and so it is what it is. He was drafted and he has an opportunity. With how the bears drafted (seriously their FA signing of Gentry and the drafting of the Alabama safety is really the only things they did during the draft that I liked) I am down to pulling for the Pokes in the league NFL wise.

There are two ways to look at it...
1. It's actually only about a $1 million difference from Alvin Kamara's projected $3,868,505 contract as the first RB in the third round to Brian Hill's projected $2,625,505 contract as the first RB of the fifth round.
2. That's still roughly a 32% reduction.

That's still a lot of money. Is that the projected income if the player plays out the entire contract?

Also, I thought there was a small benefit to being a 5th round over an early round pick at RB. If I am not mistaken, don't early round picks' contracts guarantee an extra team option year thus making the contract potentially longer? As a late round pick and if you perform well, you get into the 2nd contract quicker which is where the big money is.

That would be for the entire contract, yes.

The extra year is only for first rounders.

Thanks for that info. Here is to hoping Brian carries that chip on his shoulder to a nice juicy 2nd contract.

Third reason is that 5th round contract is not guaranteed. NONE of it except the roughly $180,000 in signing bonus that's it. You have to be on the 53 man roster to get that contract.

No contracts are guaranteed, period. The only guarantee is that first-round picks are guaranteed to make the roster their first season, after that, all bets are off.
