Once everyone gets it out their system

Unlike last week, they actually tried to get to the ball, though, rather than watching and standing still if they were further than 10 yards away.

Sure, it's sad when "appearing to care enough to try" is a positive, but it's a step in the right direction.
Will see next week

The transfer portal is rearing it's ugly head and it's apparent it's always going to be like this from here on out, unfortunately...what does being in D1 do for us really....I'd like a chance to play for something as opposed to being cannon fodder or bottom of the birdcage press clippings...no excuses for not executing against a FCS school at home...unless.....

Idaho is outdoing us in the portal?

We lost no one of note in the transfer portal this year. In fact, we acquired a few notable pieces in DJ Jones and the punter. The portal isnt an excuse in the least.

Aren’t most of our runs RPOs or just run options? Cant blow the d line back 2-3 yards if you end up throwing it. Thats what sucks about that kind of football. If you end up throwing it, it’s illegal man downfield. I thought DJ ran the ball pretty good today, 17 carries for 80 yards.
I didnt see but maybe one RPO today. And I am not trusting Svoboda to execute RPOs at this point. We ran several read options.

Here’s how we may be able solve the issue after this season - demote Sawvel back to co-DC, fire the offensive staff and bring in either Vigen or Polasek as head coach. Allow Vigen or Polasek to determine the rest of the makeup of both the defensive and offensive staff and whether to retain Aaron Bohl, etc. This would allow the transition back to a ‘cowboy tough’ brand of football and may save us on a hefty Sawvel buyout. That is, if Sawvel was unwilling to accept the demotion, then Wyoming is in a position to significantly negotiate down the buyout or possibly eliminate it (dependent on the contract terms).

This is the only solution I can come up with. We have the players on the roster who will be able to adjust to a Vigen/Polasek system and that should allow for a quick turnaround similar to how we quickly turned around for the negative this year.

For the first time, I'm actually starting to think this is a viable option. Idaho was a very worthy opponent. They had equal, if not better talent than we had. And speaking of cannon fodder, BYU comes to town next week with their huge lines comprised of 25 and 26 year olds. We have no chance. And Boise st. took Oregon to the wire. Again, we will get our brains beat out. We would be competitive in FCS.

I’ve only heard good things about Sawvel as a person. Is there any chance he decides to actually put the program first and offers to resign at the end of the season?

He literally has no excuses. He was handed a 9 win team returning most of the talent on the defensive side of the ball and a QB that went into Austin last year and looked like he belonged. The QB has looked nothing close to the guy I saw in Austin last year and this team will be lucky to win a single game this season. That regression is just indefensible. Even Jay has to be starting to realize that he may not be head coach material at this point.

Not a chance. Every head coach who fails has an excuse. Injuries, a bad bounce, a bad call......you name it and they will have an excuse for it. Vic was an awful head coach. We kept him 3 years and he would have stayed had we let him. When do you ever see a coach voluntarily step down because he wasn't up to the job? Never. Just ask csewe. They've had to buy out one coach after another. Sawvel will leave kicking and screaming on his way out the door.

You are probably right. If for nothing else than for financial reasons. What is the length of Sawvel's current contract? Do we know what the buyout would look like to get him out after this season?

I thought I remember Hawaii's coach stepping down a few years ago. I want to say he was only 2 years into a 5 year contract. Am I misremembering this?

First thing that needs to happen is promote Burman to another position in the University. Then you hire a bulldog hatchet man. Provide clear direction and reassign or fire anyone not on board.

I honestly don't want to hear anything from PBJ. Win then talk. Win then you can rally the fan base. Don't demand respect. Earn it.

Accepting of mediocrity is doing nothing.

There's a lot about life and football I don't understand. But this is one thing I know: No one will fire anyone until it costs them money. When the stands are about half full, then we'll get some action. When I was stumbling through the gravel of all this grand new renovation, I realized this costs a lot of money. To buy out some coaches for a few million is peanuts. But then, that would be admitting they f'd up in the first place. And they don't want to do that.

Here's the problem, college football and the mwc specifically are on the cusp of major changes. We're on the borderline of being relegated to a worse situation or aligning with others in the best situation possible.

This is the worst possible time for the program to collapse. Who knows how much this will cost us in the long run.

You are right on the part about major changes coming but I think the "worst possible time for the program to collapse" may have already come and gone. I think it's at least possible that the time period from 2000 to 2010 was the window to prove you belong at the big boys table. Obviously it's bad to suck today but more 9 win meaningless bowl game seasons don't really move the needle at this point.

Perhaps but realistically we weren't going to be in the 65k+ attendance category.

We were starting to build a little stronger home attendance stat. This year could have been real solid. 9 wins, bowl wins, strong home attendance, and improving fundraising might make us more appealing to whatever comes next. A tanking program, declining attendance, and declining fundraising isn't going to be helpful.

Yeah..the Big big boy's table was always probably unrealistic.

No. Just no. We’ve been competitive in FBS for the last 8 years. We can and will again. This is loser talk

Being "competitive" like we have for the last 8 years seems to leave many fans (at least many posters here) unsatisfied. If the last 8 years is the best we can hope for...what then? Is that ok?

To put a sharper point on it...I'm referring to the gap that continues to grow between Wyoming and the top of the conference. Yes the conference may look different in the near future but even while we have been pretty dominant against CSU during the last 8 years we have pretty much come up with bupkis against roughly the top half of the MWC. I suppose that is more "competitive" than say UNM or CSU during that stretch but it's nothing to write home about.
