No Respect

Iowa fans not giving much respect. In fact, many think it's going to be a blowout. Sounds like great bulletin board material for the Pokes! I know we have a lot of holes to fill, but providing we don't start the year with a lot of injuries, this Wyoming team has a great chance to go into Iowa City and beat Iowa.

I'd love to know how our defense is going to be as bad or worse than last year when they don't follow the Pokes or watch the games.... It'll be a fun game. Think the Cowboys can beat them if they take care of themselves and execute their game. Cannot wait!

Yeah, big school over confidence reigns on that board.

You can tell none of them know anything about Wyoming.

Some of them looked up stats to see we didn't defend the run very well. None of them know that we did pretty well against power rushing attacks and struggled verse read option attacks. They don't run a read option. In addition, none of them know what we have coming back on the d line.

I guess that's what we want: they think they should win big, but don't know enough about our team to understand why.

Thats the recipe for a big upset vs. an over-confident squad that got beat by NDSU last year.

The coaches (or whoever vote on their behalf) think that Wyoming is a better team than Iowa as of the preseason.

I have a lot riding on this game. The score of the game will be painted on the wall of the "Wyoming Room" at our house as my GF is an Iowa alum.

Also, the very first post on the link says to take Wyoming and the points. I highly doubt Iowa is in any way overlooking Wyoming,

Cuz "how dare a school like UW come into Idiots Out Walking Around land" and beat he mighty Hawkeyes, how dare them, ahhhhem see NDSU last year, we aren't them, nor a "typical" creampuff you are used to beating 1st game of the year being a Big 10 POWERHOUSE school....you'll know we have arrived, and cmon Josh let's show the world it's UW's turn!! I've said one of these years i'll be at a "big school" game with my Pokes when the upset is pulled, I have a good feeling with this one, hurry up Sept 2

Iowa pretty much plays everybody close (with a few exceptions), for better or worse.

The Hawks aren't good enough to look past anybody, so I don't think anyone in the program will have any lack of respect for the Cowboys whatsoever.

It's definitely a good thing that they are not a spread offense. We really did play pro-style offenses pretty well last year. Plus Granderson. Granderson is a game changer imo. Just hope Carl is close to last year's level

Someone help me out.....who are the read-option teams we played? I'd like to break down those numbers.

UNLV, New Mexico....who else? Was EMU or BYU?

BTW removing those two games alone drop the rushing defense from 203.6 ypg to 156.8 ypg, which would move us in the rankings from 92nd to 50th. (Iowa was 45th last year)

Eastern Michigan.

Thanks, I wondered. Was BYU?

Yeah, BYU definitely runs some of that, but not as much as EMU, UNLV, or UNM.

According to their O.C. Ty Detmer, they're a pro style offense with a fullback. Still, they do a lot of shotgun zone read.

I would say they're more of a multiple set offense, with some read option.

UNM, UNLV, and EMU run shotgun zone read almost every down.

So take out those four games and our run defense allowed just 142.7 rushing yards per game, which would put them in the Top 35 in the country.

Yeah, here's a video of Steve Stanard game planning for read option offenses against college football juggernauts like EMU, UNM, and UNLV.

New Mexico was the worst defensive effort I have ever seen. Especially considering what was at stake

BYU was straight power football. Tanner Mangum is church league slow.

Yeah, but Tanner Mangum wasn't the starter all year, just against us. Taysom Hill was.

So, yeah, they didn't run much read option verses us, but they ran quite a bit verses everyone else.

After reading their comments, :) . No doubt we have some questionmarks, but I think CB knew what he was doing when he replaced Stannard. My feelings are this game will be like Nebraska last year - with-out the 4th quarter.

Iowa might have the best offensive line in the country so even if our defense is improved it might not show this first game.

If we hold up against them then I will say we can beat everyone else on the schedule.

Will be a fun first game.

While I do think we have a ton of question marks still, Bohl's got me hoping that we've got something good brewing. I don't expect a win, but we certainly have a chance.
