I haven't kept up. Have some Bowls fallen out that these would replace or are these in addition to the current Bowl lineup?
If they are in addition to, then, man, they might have to start accepting teams with 5 wins. It can be the almost .500 Bowl.

Yep, just more bowl games. Sad...the accomplishment used to mean something special. I can remember 9-10 win Wyoming and Hawaii teams not making a bowl at all. Don't get me wrong, considering how things have gone for UW from 2000-present, I'll take any bowl games. But I won't be bragging about them until the program has made at least semi-respectable bowls like the Vegas Bowl.ragtimejoe1 said:

Is that counting the National Championship game?
If so, that would be 41 Non-Championship Game bowl games.
Regardless, the difference is small. Either 82 or 84 bowl teams.
That's uhh... a lot of teams with 6 wins.
Are they going to let any potential 6-7 teams play? The 6-7 teams would either be teams that played at Hawaii and got a 13th game, or went 6-6 won their division, then lost the conference championship games.
Even if they do let 6-7 teams play, there can not be that many 6-7 teams each year.
I get that teams really just have to go 5-6 in their 11 FBS games as long as they beat their cupcake. But the gap between FCS and FBS is closing. Thanks to coaches like Bohl and others like him.
Maybe the let teams like NDSU play in games instead of the FCS playoffs?

Oh I completely agree, that is the first step. I'm just saying I won't be screaming "WYOMING FOOTBALL IS BACK" at the top of my lungs for winning the Potato Bowl. That would be insulting to the late-80s, mid-90s teams. Of course getting to bowls at all is the goal, with the hope that a Vegas Bowl or two is in the cards in the next 4-6 years from now.BeaverPoke said:

In 2014, there were 84 FBS teams with at least 6 wins. Of those, 14 finished the regular season with exactly 6 wins. And Beav, to answer your question, only 1 team was 6-7 and went to a bowl game last year, Fresno State.

Really, we are starting to get separation of bowls. There are a handful of bowls that really matter and then the rest are just extra days of practice--at least that is how I think about it.
The top tier bowl games are reminiscent of the old days and are a reward for the outstanding teams. The also-rans are just entertainment leading up to the main shows.
Doesn't really bother me and I even watch one on occasion.

Bowl games today are just participation awards, I really wish the bar was a little higher maybe require .650-750 instead of .500 for Bowl access but as it sits right now these shitty low tier bowls are just like playing in the CIT/CBI New Years day Bowls are like the NIT and the Playoffs are the NCAA Tournament and that is exactly how I see it.
Would be nice amazing to see a 16 team format problem with 16 is it is too big and allows for the small guy to get in so we won't ever see that. 8 team format is where they will get eventually and it will stay there but the problem is those 8 teams will still be RPI/SOS based and won't ever give G5 a guaranteed slot.
I just wish the G5 would accept they aren't allowed to play the the P5 toys and make their own 8 team playoff. I know it wouldn't be as amazing as the NC Title but it would probably be pretty lucrative from a financial stand point. You can't tell me that fans wouldn't watch it they definitely would.

Agreed. I've always said, look at fans of NDSU, Montana, etc. You don't hear them saying, "Gawd, this playoff stuff is fun, but my excitement and enthusiasm are stunted because we aren't Alabama".Wyo2dal said:
College football is making a huge mistake though. An un-American mistake. People watch these games to see the little guy emerge and knock off the big guy. The 2007 Fiesta Bowl isn't considered to be the greatest BCS game ever because people like BSU or hate OU, but because David beat Goliath. Sports are about hope...there is always next year, always a possibility. The P5 are trying to remove that possibility...and they're going to hurt the game in doing so.

Let's have the "Big Dance", the "NIT" and the "CBI".
We are sitting at 84 teams getting post-season play.
Let's do 16 for the Big Dance. 32 for the NIT. Another 32 for the CBI.
Put the elite in the Big Dance. All conference champs plus a few At-Large guys. Likely a few more P5 teams.
Put the next level teams in the NIT. Your 10+ win teams from G5 and your 8+ win from P5, then do your CBI with the rest of the teams that are 6-6 or better.
If we are rewarding everyone for getting in, trying to get as many games as possible, and want a true champ, and want to feel better about the next season (which is what a lot of college athletics is... "Next year!"), let's just move it to a couple tourneys.

Consequently, the top 2 in the NIT are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA group the following year. That would make for some fun competition IMO.
