No, not those ones. The ones up in Laramie, Wyo., who are actually still playing.
For the first time since Fennis Dembo was roaming the court 7,200 feet above sea level and Larry Shyatt was helping roam the sidelines at the Pit as an associate head coach at the Lobos, the University of Wyoming on Monday made an appearance in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The Cowboys (15-2, 4-0 Mountain West) appeared on 23 of 65 AP ballots Monday morning with a high vote of No. 19 to earn 71 points, edging Ohio State (70) for the last spot in the poll. It is Wyoming’s first AP ranking since March 1988.
“My initial reaction as a coach: We’ve only had 17 games. There’s a long way to go,” Shyatt, Wyoming’s head coach, told the AP. “And then my reaction on behalf of the people of the great state of Wyoming and the fans would be: At least it’s a step in the right direction.”
