I don’t think so. I believe it would spell more trouble for the MWC and Wyoming.
Boise and Oregon State aren’t leaving until the PAC GOR terminates in June 30, 2031. This aligns pretty well with the MWC GOR that terminates on June 30, 2032.
So if Boise leaves 2031, UNLV will quickly take their spot and announce they will join the PAC 2032. Why wouldn’t UNLV leave at that point? They would have already received all of their MWC bonus money and the PAC will be a better conference with a better media deal and better travel for UNLV. In fact, I don’t see a lot of scenarios where UNLV is in the MWC past 2032.
Once UNLV is gone, it seems to me that Air Force might want to put its football in a conference with Navy and Army. At that point the MWC probably backfills with Sacramento State and the like.
Under what scenario does the MWC improve?!?!? I’m not seeing a logical one. We can all thank Burman and the department for getting us to this point of an inevitable continued decline in conference affiliation.
