Montana Game

It's not the worst, most reputable teams are Weber St and Montana.

Weber St has a predicted rank of #79

Montana has a predicted rank of #154

Wyoming has a predicted rank of #161

Montana is basically a middle of the pack MWC team.

Thats a great win for a young team and a young coach! I love the effort. Showing me so far more than I would have expected. Been very impressed with James and Aka Gorski so far this year

I'll take the win with a couple of our starters not playing much at all due to foul problems. Solid road win for the Pokes!!!

James has had a couple WTF moments, but the kid can score and likes to take it to the hoop.

Wow, outstanding win against a pretty decent team. Always good to get one on the road. It should do wonders for the confidence of the Pokes going forwards. Congrats Pokes!!!

And without Adams for most of the game.

We basically ran a 5-man rotation the whole second half.

Road burn! Good game, Pokes. Made me proud :)

I didn't want to pay $7 to watch the game so I don't really have much of an opinion. Hopefully a replay shows up somewhere. From the radio JJ sounds like all we hoped he would be. A little sloppy, but dang good.

And got mugged on two point blank dunks without calls. The kid can play, he's going to be special I think. He has had an edge this year that he wants the ball, he wants to lead. I love seeing that from a young kid!
!

:D Stressful game but so glad they gutted it out. If Dalton could only gain a couple pounds he'd really really be a player. He scrapped out 13 rebounds and won the game at the end by blocking the game winning layup attempt right before the buzzer. Really proud of how he played. James is definitely gonna be our go to guy when we need buckets it seems like, he definitely got clobbered on a couple drives and no fouls were called, also had a few bad turnovers, but I'll live with those as he matures and improves. So much of what he does has Marcus Bailey written all over it! ;) edit: read on the espn recap that Herndon blocked the shot, was a very hectic sequence

Jmac did a good job of finding his way to the line, 11-14 there, made a couple threes, but i felt Montana defended us very well. Disappointed Naughton didn't have much impact, fouls took him out of the first half, and he virtually didn't play in the second half, I really thought he could'a imposed his will inside against Montana but with the foul problems we went away from him and he was a non factor.

Really really think that if Adams didn't get hurt in the first half that we might have won a bit more easily. That guy is possibly our best athlete, impressed with him on both ends of the floor, and not having him had a huge impact, very gutty to pull it out without him. Lieberman was a non factor as well. Not sure he should be starting. Personally I see Lieberman more as a shooter than a creator, also I think he's a bit of a liability on the defensive end. We wound up running Herndon as the "point" down the stretch, along with Justin James throughout the game.

All in all, gutty win, good win on the road, and good learning and maturing experience for this young team! Definitely gonna be some bumps in the road moving forward, but really impressed how they battled tonight and found a way to pull out the win when the shots weren't falling very well in the 2nd half. Bring on the next one!!

I wanna be as respectful as possible when I say this, but how the heck did Cody Kelley win WY's Gatorade POY award twice? Is that really a good representation of the quality of talent from the state?

Who knows....but there is a current NBA player who grew up and went to HS in Cheyenne. JMac is a decent player too. Utah States all time leading scorer is a Wyoming kid. And Marcus Bailey was Mr. Wyoming about a decade ago.

In many (most?) years, there is not a single D1 Men's BB recruit that comes out of the state of Wyoming, so....yes.

There are always exceptions of course such as Marcus Bailey and James Johnson, but for the most part it is pretty rare to find a MWC caliber player coming out of the Wyoming HS ranks. McManamanen looks good now, but he wasn't much better as a Fr. than Kelley is right now and many on here were wondering why he was on scholarship. Obviously JMac had the advantage of being 6" taller than Kelley (maybe more), so I am not necessarily comparing them, just pointing out it is very rare for a Wyoming kid to be a productive D1 player and even more rare for one to do so as an underclassman.

You have to remember that the whole state only has 500k people and they are mostly in smaller communities. So, you have a small group to start with, and even the ones with talent do not usually have access to high levels of competition and specialization that prospective players in more populated areas have.

I guess the size is the thing that stands out to me. It's weird, but I feel like I'm watching the basketball remake of Rudy when he's out there.

It's part of why I wasn't so distraught when Conway moved from basketball to football, even though Conway has quicks Kelley could only dream of. Actually, now that I say that, it probably would've been fun to watch AC in this uptempo system.
